POKEMON RUBY AND SAPPHIRE FAQ's

POKEMON

- Which Pokemon are Ruby exclusive?
Seedot, Nuzleaf, Shiftry, Mawile, Zangoose, Solrock, Latios and Groudon

- Which Pokemon are Sapphire exclusive?
Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo, Sableye, Seviper, Lunatone, Latias and Kyogre

- What determines Wurmple's evolution
It seems a lot of places on ther Internet say Gender or Time - however, it's been proven that this is definitely wrong. Wurmple's evolution is determined by hidden value, so it's basically random as to whether you get a Silcoon or a Cascoon.

- Where do I get the fossils?
They are in the top right hand corner of the desert, you get a choice of either the Claw or the Root fossil.

- How do I get Pokemon out of my fossil?
Go to Rustoboro City and go to the Devon Building (where you got the PokeNav). Take it to the scientist on the far right on the second floor. The Claw Fossil gives you a lv20 Anorith, while the Root Fossil gives you a lv20 Lileep

- Where do I get Castform [Jap: Powarun] (#142)?
West of Fortree City is the Weather Institute. Talk to one of the scientists to get Castform.

- Where do I get Beldum [Jap: Danbaru] (#190)?
After beating the Elite Four, head to Mossdeep city. In a building there, there is a Pokeball with Beldum in an empty house.

- How do I get an Azurill?
You need the Sea Incense - attach it to a Marill and breed it with another Marill to get Azurill.

- How do I get a Wynaut?
You need the Lax Incense - attach it to a Wobbuffet and breed it with another Wobbuffet to get Wynaut. There's also an old lady who will give you a Wynaut Egg in Lavaridge Town (By the hot pools)

ITEMS

- Where do I get the Coin Case from?
Firstly you need to get Harbor Mail from Slateport City, which is the last item on the shop list for Y50. Take this to Mauville City and in the house directly to the right of the casino, is a girl who will trade the case for the Harbor Mail.

- What can I get at the casino?
The two ladies give you these things:
TM32 (Double Team) - 1500 coins
TM29 (Psychic) - 3500 coins
TM35 (Flamethrower) - 4000 coins
TM24 (Thunderbolt) - 4000 coins
TM13 (Ice Beam) - 4000 coins
Treecko Doll - 1000 coins
Torchic Doll - 1000 coins
Mudkip Doll - 1000 coins

You can use the dolls to decorate your secret base. There are no Pokemon from the casino.

- Where can I get the Evolution Stones?
There is one of each stone scattered around the world (The Thunderstone is in the PowerPlant, for instance) but you can also go treasure hunting in the trenches in the ocean. You'll need HM03 Surf and HM08 Dive. Look for coloured 'shards' (in Item Balls) and bring them to the Hunter's House northwest of Mossdeep City. He'll give you the stones for the shards.

- Where can I find all the HMs and TMs?
Check out the TM and HM listing.

- Where is the Master Ball?
While you're in the Team Magma/Aqua Secret Base to the east of Lilycove City, you'll need to find a room where there are nine teleport pads. Get the sequence right and continue on, you'll find a set of 4 Item Balls... or are they? Inspecting the two on the right will cause some Electrode to attack. However, the two on the left contain a Nugget and the Master Ball. It is imperative you get it now, otherwise the base will be off limits once you progress too far in the game.

- Where can I get the rods from?
The Old Rod you can get from the fisherman walking around in Dewford Town. The Good Rod is available east of Mauville City. The Super Rod is obtainable from Mossdeep City.

- How do I fish?
There is now a new technique. Several dots will appear, once the text "Oh! A Bite!" appears, press A. Continue until the hooked Pokemon attacks.

- Where are the bikes and how do I use them?
In Mauville City, to the right of the PokeCenter is a bike shop, head in there and talk to the man on the left. If you choose the top option, he will give you the Mach Bike, choose the bottom option and you have the Acro bike. You can change bikes by talking to him again. The Mach Bike allows you to get over cracks and up mudslides. You must be at top speed to get over the cracks and up the mudslides, so start off at a distance and hold down the direction button.
The Acro Bike allows you to go up the brown stepping stones and across the white planks found throughout the game. To get up the stepping stones, hold down B and you should start bouncing on one wheel. Steer with the direction pad and hop up the stones. As for the white planks, simply press B and Direction to hop over the planks.

- Where can I get the running shoes?
After receiving your Pokedex from Professor Birch, talk to your Mom and she'll give you the running shoes. Hold down B and use the direction pad to run.

LOCATIONS

- How do I get into the Safari Zone?
You need the PokeBlock Case. This can be obtained from the small girl inside the Contest Foyer (The red building) in Slateport City.

- How do I get to the Powerplant?
At the north end of the Bike Path you can Surf under the path to a cave which is the power plant. Wattson will ask you to turn off the generator at some stage in the game, doing so will earn you TM24 for free from him. You can also catch Voltorb/Electrode and Magnemite/Magneton. You also find the Thunderstone here.

- How do I get to those other parts of Shoal Cave?
The areas accessible in Shoal Cave vary with time, as the tide will rise and sink as the clock ticks. There is High Tide between 9am - 3pm, and 9pm - 3am. There is Low Tide between 3pm - 9pm and 3am - 9am.

MISC

- Is there Day and Night?
No there isn't - they do not appear visible in the game. Time doesn't affect anything in the game except in growing berries and tides.

- What are those little grey squares everywhere?
They are locations for your secret base. You have to get TM43 - Secret Power and one of your Pokemon will dig it out for you. You can then put flowers and dolls and paintings inside like your room in GSC. See the Secret Base Guide for more details.

- How do I get paintings in the museum?
If your Pokemon scores five hearts or more in a contest, you'll get a portrait of it that will go to the Lilycove Museum.

- What's Southern Island?
Southern Island is the place you can go to once you have obtained an Eon Ticket. For more info, check the bottom of the Legendaries Guide.

- What's Mirage Island?
Each Pokemon has a special value assigned to it that determines its gender. It is this value that determines whether you can see Mirage Island. Since the exact value is not publically displayed, finding a Pokemon that fits this description is as good as random. However, a man in Pacifidlog Town will say "I can see Mirage Island today!" if there is such a Pokemon in your party.
Mirage Island appears on Route 130 by Surfing east from Pacifidlog Town (You can't miss it). In the grass there, you'll find Wynaut and the Liechi Berry.

- What's the weird house on Route 110, north of Slateport?
That's the Trick House. The Trick Master sets up a series of tricks and puzzles that you have to solve, and if you do, he'll give you a special item. There are two stages to the tricks - the first is finding him when you enter the house for the first time, and the second is locating a password on a scroll, and navigating towards the exit door. The first time you enter the house, you'll need HM01 Cut to get through the puzzle.

- How come Wally didn't show up on my Trainer's Eyes?
You need 68 Trainers in your Trainer's Eyes before a record for Wally will appear. The real Wally will appear on Victory Road, near the exit.

- What are Trainer Stars? How do I get them?
Trainer Stars are awarded each time you complete a certain quest. They appear on the trainer card, viewable through the menu. The quests are:
1 : First Hall of Fame.
2 : Complete the Hoenn Pokedex (200 Pokemon).
3 : Complete all Master Rank contests and get five museum paintings.
4 : Beat the Battle Tower 50 times in a row.

- My berries have stopped growing?! What's this Berry Glitch? How do I fix it?
Ruby and Sapphire have a small bug in the program that prevents berries from growing and other time-related events from working. This is called the Berry Glitch. To fix it, connect your game with Pokemon Colosseum, FireRed or LeafGreen. Go to the title screen. Now press SELECT + B and now, start Ruby/Sapphire, but make sure you press SELECT + START while you are starting it up. Now the game will update the Berry program.
