POKEMON DIAMOND AND PEARL ADDITIONAL CAPTURE METHODS GUIDE

Diamond and Pearl introduce several new ways to capture Pokemon. They are explained below.

Please Note: For the Pokemon that do not appear in the Sinnoh Dex, but instead only in the National Dex, you must have the National Dex for them to appear by these methods. The National Dex is obtained after you see all 150 Sinnoh Dex Pokemon. Talk to Professor Rowan and you will receive the National Dex from Professor Oak.

Binoculars

In the entry booths to the Great Marsh, you will find binoculars. Looking through them will show you a Pokemon that happens to be abundantly popular that day. More Pokemon become available after you obtain the National Dex. The following Pokemon are available; note which Dex you have to have.

Pokemon Dex Needed
Azurill Sinnoh Dex
Bibarel Sinnoh Dex
Bidoof Sinnoh Dex
Carnivine Either Dex
Croagunk Either Dex
Drapion National Dex
Exeggcute National Dex
Golduck Either Dex
Gulpin National Dex
Kangaskhan National Dex
Paras National Dex
Quagsire Sinnoh Dex
Roselia Either Dex
Shroomish National Dex
Skorupi Either Dex
Staravia Either Dex
Toxicroak National Dex
Wooper Sinnoh Dex
Yanma National Dex

Fossils

Though not a new method, the fossils in DP are found in the Underground and can be revived in Orebough City.

Honey Trees

Throughout Sinnoh, there are golden-brown trees growing. If you place Honey on these trees, and then check back in 6 to 24 hours, you'll find a Pokemon on the tree. Certain Pokemon will only visit certain trees. Make sure you don't wait too long, or the Pokemon will be gone. The following Pokemon are available this way:

Pokemon Version Tree Group
Aipom Both Groups 1&2
Burmy Both Groups 1&2
Cascoon Pearl Group 1
Cherubi Both Groups 1&2
Combee Both Groups 1&2
Heracross Both Group 2
Munchlax Both Group 3
Silcoon Diamond Group 1
Wurmple Both Groups 1&2

Group 3 is the tree at Valley Windworks. Groups 1 and 2 are very similar. Group 1 will have Silcoon/Cascoon while Group 2 will have Heracross. This is the only difference between the groups; the other four possible Pokemon are all the same for all trees in both groups. Specific locations of trees and which group they belong to will be posted once it is confirmed.

Some additional Pokemon are really easy to obtain. All you have to do is have another Pokemon GBA game sitting in your DS at the time, and different Pokemon than normal will show up in an area. Here's a list:
