SUPER SMASH BROS

The original Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 featured a roster of twelve characters, four of which were unlockable. Of the eight starter characters, each one came from a different series, and Pokemon was represented by its iconic character, Pikachu. After all characters are unlocked only two series, Mario and Pokemon, had more than one representative, Mario had Luigi and Pokemon had Jigglypuff. For more information on characters, see the SSB Characters page. It's helpful to note that this game was released before Gold and Silver, and as such only first generation Pokemon appear in the game.

Saffron City

Aside from appearing as characters, Pokemon also have their own stage; Saffron City. Fighting takes place on top of the Silph Co. building, and the following Pokemon will also appear on the stage and interfere in the ways explained.

Pokemon Appearing in Saffron City
Pokemon Move Used
Venusaur Razor Leaf
Charmander Flamethrower
Electrode Explosion
Chansey Softboiled
Porygon Tackle

Meowth uses Pay Day

Pokemon are also featured in the Poke Ball item. Any character can pick up a Poke Ball and throw it to call a Pokemon. This means that Pikachu and Jigglypuff can call Pokemon to assist them in battle, which would be highly unusual within the context of any other Pokemon game. The following Pokemon appear randomly out of Poke Balls.
