TECHNIQUE DEX - HIDDEN POWER

Click here to return to the TechDex entry for Hidden Power

The base power and type of Hidden Power varies from Pokemon to Pokemon. The deciding factor is the value of the user's IVs (Individual Values) or DVs (Deter Values).

The IV/DV system was different in Gold, Silver and Crystal, so Hidden Power is calculated differently. Refer to the GSC Hidden Power Guide for an explanation as to how the base power and type are calculated.

In RSE, LGFR and PD, there are 6 IVs that we must contend with. Firstly, let us calculate the base power:

  • If the HP IV divided by 4 has a remainder of 0 or 1, then P1 = 0. Otherwise P1 = 1
  • If the Attack IV divided by 4 has a remainder of 0 or 1, then P2 = 0. Otherwise P2 = 2
  • If the Defense IV divided by 4 has a remainder of 0 or 1, then P3 = 0. Otherwise P3 = 4
  • If the Speed IV divided by 4 has a remainder of 0 or 1, then P4 = 0. Otherwise P4 = 8
  • If the Special Attack IV divided by 4 has a remainder of 0 or 1, then P5 = 0. Otherwise P5 = 16
  • If the Special Defense IV divided by 4 has a remainder of 0 or 1, then P6 = 0. Otherwise P6 = 32
  • Base Power = (P1 + P2 + P3 + P4 + P5 + P6) × 40 ÷ 63 + 30

The base power ranges between 30 at minimum, and 70 at maximum.

Secondly, let us calculate the type. Once again, all 6 IVs contribute to the type:

  • If the HP IV is even, then T1 = 0. Otherwise T1 = 1
  • If the Attack IV is even, then T2 = 0. Otherwise T2 = 2
  • If the Defense IV is even, then T3 = 0. Otherwise T3 = 4
  • If the Speed IV is even, then T4 = 0. Otherwise T4 = 8
  • If the Special Attack IV is even, then T5 = 0. Otherwise T5 = 16
  • If the Special Defense IV is even, then T6 = 0. Otherwise T6 = 32
  • Type = (T1 + T2 + T3 + T4 + T5 + T6) × 15 ÷ 63

The type can now be determined from this table:

Type Number
Fighting0
Flying1
Poison2
Ground3
Rock4
Bug5
Ghost6
Steel7
Type Number
Fire8
Water9
Grass10
Electric11
