I always give my pokemon the absolute lamest names.
Some of them keep my friends laughing forever!
I will tell you the nicknames of my Favourite Crystal Pokemon:
Typhlosion = Firebolt (The best broom in Harry Potter)
Lugia = Eagle
Scizor = Sir Slash!
Marowak = Boney
Machamp = Champion
Dragonite = No! It's to lame to tell you!
Dodrio = Fluffy (the 3-headed dog on Harry Potter)
Hitmonlee = Kicky
Hitmonchan = Uppercut
Hitmontop = Beyblade
Ditto = Morph
Snorlax = Donut King
Oh and I was thinking you could call your Lavapuppy.
I think you will agree, I have stupid nicknames.

^_^ Thanks... I was just looking through a name book and came across these names. They had pretty interesting meanings, so I just decided to share them. Here are the meanings and orgins...
Nuria - Hebrew: God's fire
Ignatius - English: firey one
Misu - Native American: ripples in the water
Nen - Arabic: ancient waters (I think it would be the perfect name for a relicanth! XD)
Nariko - Japanese: thunder
Donar - Scandinavian: God of Thunder
Soyala- Native American: winter solstice
Dong - Vietnamese: winter
Kali - Hindi: Dark Goddess (Love this name... ^_^)
Dorjan - Hungarian: dark man (Umm... I just thought the name sounded cool for a pokemon. ^_^;; )
Sela - Hebrew: rock
Cargan - Celtic: little rock
Avani - Hindi: earth
Umberto - Italian: color of earth
Anila - Hindi: child of the wind
Makan - Hawaiian: wind
Kaida - Japanese: little dragon (So cute! I think I would give this name to a flygon...)
Ryu - Japanese: dragon (Perfect for Rayquaza.)
Teela - American: strong willed (Good for fighting or steel... Both seem strong to me. ^_^)
Imaran - Hindi: strong
Mandana - Persain: everlasting (I couldn't find good names that had a meaning similar to poison, but since poison lasts... why not?)
Dante - Latin: lasting
Zurina - Spanish: means white (Couldn't find good name meanings to match a normal type, but since the type is represented by the color white... I thought... meh.)
Kei - African: means sandy, white
Manasa - Hindi: mind
Hugh - German: bright in mind and spirit
Deva - Hindi: celestial spirit (I love that meaning! ^_^)
Cheveyo - Native American: spirit warrior
Quintessa - Latin: small one (I couldn't find good ones for bug either, but when you think small... you think bugs, right? And I love this name... It's cute! I would name a beautifly this...)
Paolo - Italian: small
Heh! I forgot names for fighting types... XD Silly me.
Varick - German: honorable defender
Zasha - Russian: People's defender (Perfect name for a pokemon, huh?)
The names for the Steel and Fighting types could probably be switched around to your liking... because of the meanings... ^_^ Yep. Ok... enough of that. I'm a psycho when it comes to naming things... obviously! XD

I suppose the Hebrew, Gaelic and Japanese languages have the best elemental words for nicknames for pokemon.

Hrm... I'll give you a list and you can decide. Here are some names I would consider for your Venusaur. ^_^
Zahur - Arabic: Flower (I was thinking of the flower on its back. ^_^; )
Admon - Hebrew: Red peony flower (Still thinking of the flower on its back. It's not exactly red, but at least the name sounds cool! ^_^; )
Oran - Celtic: Green
Midori - Japanese: Green (Yet again...)
Cyrus - Persian: Sun (I'm thinking of solarbeam. O_o)
Solaris - Greek: Of the sun (Solarbeam... again.)
Natsu - Japanese: Born in summer (I'm thinking of seasons now.)
Haru - Japanese: Born in spring
Vasant - Hindi: Spring season (Summer and spring remind me of flowers and the sun... so... erm... yeah! ^_^;; )
Hope that helps! ^_^
