Took me many revives and super potions, but in only 2 tries, beat Lance with a LVL 58 Typhlosion and a LVL 56 Ho-oh. WIN!

Everyone is gonna laugh when I tell you my team,
Electrvire-level 44
thunderbolt
thunderpunch
thunder
discharge
feraligatr-level 36
ice fang
surf
crunch
waterfall
metang-level 34
confusion
iron head
zen headbutt
strength
Magmortar-level 35
faint attack
fire blast
rock smash
fire punch
Ho-oh-level 46
extrasensory
fly
fire blast
sacred fire
and now you are all wondering how i beat lance with 3 level 30 pokemon, well here is my trump card,
Tyranitar-level 55
crunch
dark pulse
earthquake
stone edge
Then i used electrivire for gyrados, then stone edged the rest of Lance's pokemon to death, I caught tyranitar right before facing team rocket at Goldenrod, then through a combination of rare candies, and using my pokewalker, got him(pupitar) to level 50 right before lance, and used 5 rare candies on him, yes, lol i know, never try this stunt at home.

My Pokémon were in their late 40's/early 50's fighting Lance. Only Lanturn was above 49.

I agree with most of the others, level up! I don't really remember the exact match-ups, but here's the team I beat him with (and I don't remember him being overly difficult);
Ampharos-lv 51
Thunder Shock, Thunderbolt, Discharge & Strength
Typhlosion-lv 50
Lava Plume, Flame Wheel, Flamethrower, Ember
Dragonite-lv 56
Surf, Waterfall, Dragon Rush, Dragon Pulse
Ho-oh-lv 52
Extrasensory, Fly, Fire Blast, Sacred Fire
Tyranitar-lv 55
Earthquake, Dark Pulse, Stone Edge, Rock Slide
Scyther-lv 51
Cut, X-Scissor, Slash, False Swipe
Like I said, I don't remember exactly what I used to beat Lance, but I do recall that I didn't have any real trouble with him. Hope this helps . . . (have you beat him yet?)

Catch a Jynx and level it up so it learns some decent ice moves. Also, a Skarmory wouldn't be all that bad either, due to its resistances.

My team was fairly small, although, without GyaradosI would have fallen to Lance's Dragonites eaily
Gliscor Lvl 43
Roost
Iron Tail (Filler)
X-Scissor (Darks and Psychics)
Earthquake
Gyarados Lvl 41
Aqua Tail
Ice Fang (Destroys Lance's Dragonites)
Rain Dance (Sets up Gatr and Aqua Tail)
Dragon Rage
Typhlosion Lvl 43
Flamethrower
Lava Plume (Burn chance)
Swift
HP Grass (Coverage)
Feraligatr Lvl 45 (GTS)
Waterfall
Crunch (Came wih Totodile)
Shadow Claw (Came wih Totodile)
Dragon Dance (Came wih Totodile)
I found this team surprisingly effective at sweeping the E4 and gym leaders, especially in Kanto with improved movesets. I beat them the 2nd time only replacing Feraligatr with Vaporeon (Toxic and Wish support), albeit with vastly improved movesets, levels and a handy dose of luck.
To beat the Dragonites just get a fast/scarfed Pokemon with strong Rock or Ice moves

On my first runthrough of a Pokemon game, I always go solo with the fire starter. Beating him with a Typhlosion wasn't easy, but wasn't overly hard either. Especially not with all the Revives and Full Restores.

First time around in SS the first time against Lance was a nightmare, but somehow I did it. They were:
lv. 60 @Shuca Berry (Modest)
Flamethrower
Eruption
Strength (was so stupid back then)
Swift
lv. 37 @no item (Docile)
Discharge
Thunderpunch
Signal Beam
Thundershock
shiny lv. 46 @Wacan Berry (Hasty)
Waterfall
Surf
Ice Fang
Dragon Rage
lv. 100 @Shuca Berry (Brave) (Friend gave me one for a normal Pikachu)
Thunder
Thunderbolt
Volt Tackle
Fly
lv. 47 @no item (Bashful)
Extrasensory
Hydro Pump
Rain Dance
Aeroblast
lv. 15 @EXP Share (Quirky)
Wrap
Thunder Wave
Twister
Extremespeed (had to train it!)
So yeah, I never used Pikachu on Lance, because I didn't want to have an easy kill on every one of them. Ampharos OHKOd Gyarados with a crit Discharge, and died on the Outrage Dragonite. My Gyarados came next with its Ice Fang, and somehow survived Outrage, and killed it, because Ampharos had used Discharge on it once. I swept the next two Dragonites with Gyarados's Ice Fang, and then came Aerodactyl. He whopped Gyarados's butt. so I sent Lugia in to sub in, while I healed both Ampharos and Gyarados. Then came the killing of Aerodactyl by both of them, with Lugia helping out with Rain Dance before it got killed. Charizard was an easy kill by Gyarados, but had to use Ampharos as a sacrifice, to heal him up. So yeah, I had to use like 10 Full Restores and like 15 revives. Pikachu would have helped a lot, but I was trying to prove that I could win Lance without him.

Exactly! Having Ho-oh helps quite a bit though

You guys were lucky! That was my debut team! My best Pokemon was a level 60! (Okay, 100, but did I ever use ? No!) Sorry... I got carried away. Anyway, I just realized that didn't know Strength then after all! It knew Flame Wheel! ~torchie13125

Thanks to my game screwing up I have to start over...
I'm planning to have my team like this (pokes in white, moves in green):
-Feraligatr around Lv. 55-60 -waterfall or surf -Ice Fang/punch -Outrage -Superpower
-Ampharos around Lv. 50-60 -Fire Punch (or a coverage move like light screen since it doesn't cover ANYTHING) -Discharge -signal beam -Power Gem
-Forretress around Lv. 48-53 -Gyro Ball -Rapid Spin -Iron Defese -Toxic Spikes (derp, ofcourse this thing should have spikes or stealth rock)
-Sudowoodo (Rock Head) around Lv. 55 -Wood Hammer -Hammer Arm -Stone Edge -Stealth Rock (or if I give forretress that it would probably have fire punch for coverage)
-Tyranitar atleast Lv. 55 -Outrage -Superpower -Crunch -Fire Punch (this thing is actually so useful I just threw four moves in, please judge because I'm gonna be using him forever)
-Espeon atleast Lv. 50 -Morning Sun -Psychic -Last Resort -Light Screen (or if I need it maybe Iron Tail or Shadow Ball)
Please judge, I have a long way to get to the Elite four and I want to know how this will stack up.

I taught my Gyaridos Dragon Dance, Ice Fang, and Waterfall, got it to lv. 50, then sent it out first and used Dragon Dance and healed it until I had Maxed my attack, then delivered a OHKO smackdown on Lance with super-effective moves.
