Sorry if this seems like a rather dumb question (keep in mind, I'm still pretty new to [u]Pokémon[u]), but what does EV and IV stand for? I've seen these abbreviations several times on the forums and can't quite figure out what they stand for. Is "EV" perhaps Endothermic Valence? Is IV maybe Itinerant Vagabond? I suspect that the "V" is actually for "Value" ...
I'm pretty familiar with common 'net abbreviations, but these two have me stumped. :-
Thanks in advance

Effort Values and Individual Values. They are hidden numbers in the pokemon games used to make your pokemon stronger. I'm sure someone can give you a detailed explanation.

Yeah -- that was very helpful Jiggleypuff, thanks! It's way more complicated than I thought. LOL I think I'll just keep levelling my pokémon the way I have been -- battling everything & everyone in the game that'll battle and picking the attacks that I feel will be most effective. It'll be interesting to see how that works against some of the serious trainers on Psypokes ...

Ha well if this is your first play through, I don't suggest worrying about EV training. At least until you've already beat the game. That way you will have all resources available to you.

EVs and DVs are more for individuals who are concerned with competitive battling. While EVs and DVs can make a significant difference in terms of a Pokemon's stats, you'll get by just fine in the game if you choose to ignore them.
