So, I need some help here. I just found out that you can only get a Leaf Stone before Kanto from the Pokeathlon. Now, I have no desire whatsoever to do the Pokeathlon, and I want to play this game as though I didn't have any other games (at least for awhile, and disregarding trading Slowpoke with King's Rock) so I pretty much have no access to a Leaf Stone, so Victreebel is off my team. Now, I kinda need some team help. My team (without Victreebel) is (err, will be): Venomoth, Typhlosion, Slowking, Sandslash, and Ampharos. I have a few options I'm considering, and I'd like some advice.
Breed for Rock Head Sudowoodo: Unfortunately, I got a sturdy Sudowoodo and already saved, so to get a Rock head one I'd need to breed for it, then train it up to my current levels. Now, this would have the advantage of it knowing Wood Hammer, but I'd rather not have to go through breeding for the right ability, babying it, etc.
Forego the trading rule: Just trade in a Leaf Stone from Plat. Not sure why I'm so reluctant to do this, but I am.
Get a Sunflora: Sunflora was one of the Pokemon I was considering for my team the first time, but Sunkern is just so weak, and I suck at bug-catching contest so getting a Sun Stone would be a pain. Also, my special attackers outnumber my physicals 2:1 already if you include Bellsprout. Pus, its movepool kinda sucks.
Breed for Serene Grace Dunsparce/Catch another Dunsparce: Similar problem to Sudowoodo, plus a moveset would be hard due to Game Corner stupidity.
Get a Xatu: It doesn't exactly have a great movepool, and I already have a good psychic type.
These are just the possibilities I've thought of. If you have any other recommendations, I'll consider them. I'm playing Heart Gold.

Haga11111, I have a Rock Head Sudowoodo I'm not using that I caught in SS & a Serene Grace Dunsparce I caught in the same game...the Dunsparce is female though & I assume you don't plan on trading your Sudowoodo for this one...as far as which one to add to your team, it depends solely on how much of a pokemon you think Dunsparce is...I myself say...Dunsparce would be a change of pace for anyone who uses it on their team & since the 4th Gen it does have some moves now & the better ability of the two & I dread the Idea of having both a Rock Type & a Ground Type on the same Team unless it's the exact same pokemon having both types so...I probably didn't help, but that's my perspective on the situation...

Yeah, I guess that a rock type would add yet another weakness to grass, which Slowking and Sandslash have, and a weakness to water, which Typhlosion and Sandslash have.
I guess Dunsparce could get by with Headbutt, Zen Headbutt, Iron Tail, Roost and a Wide Lens.
Sudowoodo would be Wood Hammer, Double-Edge, Stone Edge, Hammer Arm, and a Wide Lens.
I think that, since neither of them will really out-speed anything, I might go with Sudowoodo, and maybe try to get a + Spec. Defense nature or give it Sandstorm (Sandstorm boosts Rock-Types' Spec. Defense by 50%)
At least Sudowoodo would do some good damage, especially with its high-bp moves and good attack, as compered to Dunsparce's low attack and weak moves.

Good point...Sudowoodo it is...low speed + low attack = dead weight no matter how you add it up & I myself can recommend Sudowoodo since I trained one myself in Pearl & it was the 2nd Best member of my Team of 5 only 2nd to Mismagius...umm...attack wise, that's good I guess, I don't personally like Double-Edge but I have no idea what to replace it with...none & nice held item choice so...it's a go?...

Your not going to be judged for using a bug pokemon/bug pokemon team...however let me say this...there is a lot of clashing types here, Dustox & Venomoth & Ariados are the Primary Example here...there's another though...just saying...it doesn't really matter Ingame anyway...

Yeah, and I've liked it since Silver.
I may replace Double-Edge with Sandstorm for the Spec. Defense boost. I already have at least Neutral Damage against all types anyway.
I would never be able to do an all bug-type team, especially in HG/SS. I like very few bug types, and most of them are gen III or IV. Still, go ahead with yours.

P.S. You didn't really say this.
It totally depends on how you want to play.
Sudowoodo is GREAT power, and if you have higher SpDef, it'll be slow, but a monster.
Dunsparce can be a great annoyer, almost as good as Togekiss, just squishier.
For Serene Grace Dunsparce, I would recommend working in Thunder Wave somehow, that with Headbutt can make it outrageously difficult to hit.
But again, it's all what you want on your team.

Oh, about that. Eventually, after learning that it's impossible for my Sudowoodo to get Wood Hammer until Blackthorn, I decided to catch a Snubull, and it's working out pretty well.

Yeah, I don't like how all you have to do is smash rocks at the Ruins of Alph.
Then again, I don't even know where to revive them. XD

Just be careful of Karen of the Elite 4...or she will mop you up...though I assume one of them learns Signal Beam so maybe not...
