With all the games out now, I'm wondering how many players started out with the original Red, Blue, and Yellow. I myself started out with Yellow, but that was after Diamond and Pearl came out.

By the way, I voted myself. Just letting you know, thought I'd say.

I started on a Fan translation of the Japanese ROM of Pokemon Red. I got pretty far, but I was bummed when I found out there would be no way of me getting a full Pokedex on a ROM because I couldn't trade.

Then when Blue was released in Europe, I bought myself that and played it until the internal clock stopped counting at 255.

When Pokemon Gold came out, I also played a Japanese fan translated ROM of that too (5 characters per name only. PIDGE I chose you!). Seeing it in colour and the Day/Night cycles was approximately the GREATEST THING EVER, and one fan-translated line that wasn't in the official game was a random person in the first town saying
"Ash, the greatest trainer of all time, is the only person to have caught all 151 Pokemon, years ago"
Which I thought was really cool.

I didn't actually buy Gold, I won it in a competition on Psypoke that Kirbster organised, and he posted it to me before it came out in Europe, which was really cool.

Gold was the probably my favourite time in Pokemon, because it did enough cool new stuff, while still paying homage to the original generation, in the form of the revisitation of Kanto. I also spent a bit of time on the IRC pokemon battle channel back then.

My Gold playtime was around 365 hours in the end, and that's the last generation of pokemon I spent that much time with.

It had just come out when I was 6 or 7.
And, God, did I love Charmander...

I remember my first one. I got Silver from a secondhand shop. It was in a glass cabinet with 'Tetris DX' and some other one. My dad was begging me to get tetris, but i got silver. If I gave into tetris, I wouldn't be here right now.

I first played a classmate's Red version back in 1st grade, then I got Blue sometime a year after. I had the most fun playing Gold version.

I started playing Pokemon with Yellow version. It was also my first Game Boy game I owned, since I got it as the same time as my Game Boy, which I won from a lucky draw, lucky me (:

I did get Blue after that, but not Red, and the trend continued with the other games in the series - I never got all the three games in a set of games before, for some reason.

The first Pokemon game I played was a friend's Blue Version at his house. Small exposure, but it was enough to get me hooked. I had a green Gameboy Pocket at the time that I used to play my own copy of Blue. My brother would usually get the opposing version so that we could trade and fight.

Believe it or not, Advance. I took minor interest before that time though. In fact, when I was younger, my sister let me play some of her Crystal Version.

I got Red when I was four, and I had no idea how to play, it took me hours to get out the door because I didn't know what the mat was for. ._.;

So I started with Gen one.

I started out with the trading card game. I didn't own a Gameboy until Christmas 1997, so I didn't get into Pokemon on Gameboy until a few years later. I had a few cards, including Farfetch'd (my favorite), Machoke, Geodude, Ekans, and Zubat. I got the four of them from my step sister who introduced me to Pokemon, and I found Machoke in a library book (someone was using it as a bookmark.) In June 2000, my brother got the Pokemon Trading Card Game for GBC for his birthday. I stole it from him because he didn't play the damned thing anyway, and enjoyed getting all the medals and cards. I had an awesome deck and I even beat Rod at the end of the game.

I got tired of the game though, and I wanted my own Pokemon game (because my brother told on me and I had to give it back, he even restarted my file :( ) but I didn't want the TCG. I wanted the games that everyone at school was playing, Red and Blue. In September 2000, I turned 12, so my dad took me to Toys R Us to pick out a Gameboy game. I originally wanted Red Version, but then I saw the special Pikachu edition game and wanted that instead. Three months later, I got Pokemon Silver for Christmas.

I wasn't really into Red/Blue as much as I was Silver/Gold/Crystal, so I voted for that option instead. No, I'm not a little tard who was born after the release of RBY, I just wasn't into the games much until I got Silver. My brother had Gold and my cousin had Crystal, so playing Yellow made me seem out of place anyway.
