Ok, In P/D when i got to lucian (the last of the 4) i decided to talk to him after he finished his dramatic "go face the champion speech" and he said "i will be right here reading books until the next challenger comes around." so then it got me thinking, Don't the Elite four have lives outside the pokemon league?
A person can't possibly live in an empty room for their whole life.....can they?
anyways, give ur opinion.

Considering Flint was running around, I'm sure they do. Lucian is just introverted.

At least they have a room. What about the trainers on that route that rains? They have to stand around in the rain their whole lives.

Of course they do. Flint, yeah, and the champion are spotted in storyline events. Same goes for gym leaders.

Well, in LG, Lorelei's house was on Four Island, so... yea.
Besides, in an empty room with doors that automatically lock, you'd kind of starve to death. :\

Who, Rowan? Hes a stalker.
What, he is.
You can't tell by the way he was there on MT cornet? Or when you beat the elite four? Or how he happens to be at the lake your heading to? Or how he sddenly appears when you see mesprit? SuSpIcIoUs

now that i think of it he IS stalker, and a child molester perhaps, he uses children to help in his "research" idk about you but i think it was more than dawn's battle skills that made him pick her... *points to her mini skirt* wonder what they were doing at the lake before you and your rival show up...

Due to the nature of the game, you only SEE the E4 in their respective rooms. While not on the job, this is how it probably is like...
Lorelei spends her time on her home island either training in the Ice Cave or spending leisurely time in her house or outside of it (where she talks to those she's close to, since in a small community like Floe Island, everyone seems to know each-other pretty well).
Bruno sits cross-legged on a very narrow surface on the peak of Mt. Silver for hours at a time.
Agatha most likely stays at home where not a lot goes on, as she's getting too old to be very active, but shows up at, say, the Fan Club every once in a while, to go off on tangents about various character flaws the people there have (just like stereotypical old people! XD). And if someone wants to debate the matter with her, her Gengar says otherwise after a 1-turn Pokemon battle. O.o
We all know what Lance is doing. Lance is soaring above the clouds on the wings of a Dragonite, or Aerodactyl on Thursdays.
Will is probably Lucian's little brother. At least I think so.
Koga travels, improving his ninjutsu, and occasionally visits home to check on Janine and his old Gym.
Karen is a goth, as far as I'm concerned, and probably spends all weekend in her house in the middle of a haunted forest with ALL the lights turned off.
Sidney? He strikes me as the social type. He probably has a lot of friends, and they get together on the free days to battle anyone they think needs to be taught a lesson. I imagine Sidney's gone to jail before and was put in the E4 for community service since his Pokemon were already E4 quality, and decided to stay put when his term was done.
We all know where Phoebe goes: Mt. Pyre. I bet people hire her to speak to their dead relatives/Pokemon.
Glacia is probably married. She seems like she would be. The husband probably raises the Steel-type but is not a Gym Leader or E4 where he comes from.
Drake is no doubt a ship captain, but from the sounds of it I'd say he's retired as well. Maybe Mr. Briney learned all he knows from him?
I don't know about the D/P generation, since I haven't been playing Pearl as long as I've played the other games, except that I'm convinced that Will and Lucian are related... My descriptions are only my perceptions, and are not under any circumstances correct or incorrect.
(to Selsix) That is so wrong... So wrong... O.o

What a bad place to train your Ponyta. Honestly.

I don't really use a team. I just mix and match the Pokemon I have trained.

I image they are given homes by the Pokemon League for their services and carry around a beeper for when anyone wants to fight them....
or they have an Elite Four signal...
If (as a side quest sort of thing) you were able to join the Elite Four or become a Gym Leader would you?
I think it would be awesome if you had like 4 pokemon in your party that had Electric as a type you could take over the gym after you won.

That would be radical. In fact, that deserves a topic of it's own, which I'm posting in General Pokemon Discussion. Woot! ^^

I have always thought that would be a cool game they could create. Possibly start off having to earn an apprenticeship gym though training or so. Then you become a trainer at the gym and move your way up the ranks. Then at some point maybe are allowed to take over for current leader or start your own gym in a different town. Obviously the gym leaders have quite a say in the goings on in a town or city, so I am sure you have to help with the community and the running of the gym as well. From then one could just keep training improving the ranks within the gym, recruiting for the gym, layout, gym-types, different areas to train mean new pokemon to catch, and a whole list of things which you have to keep doing in order to improve the gym it self. Think secret base items the mod your own gym. Your gym would start of on the level of like brock and eventually maybe get invited to become one of the elite four.
I think this is a good concept that I obviously have overthought. I just think it would be a nice change while still focusing the game on battleing and training.
tell me what you think.

Well, I always did think it was absolutely retarded that no matter how many times you beat the Champion, and got the "you've now conquered all with your l337 pokemon yay you are the new Champion" speech, you STILL fight the E4 a thousand more times... -.- I want more recognition doggonit.

Ahh, that explains why everyone around the first few cities talk about how creepy he is all the time. I thought "Seems like an alright guy to me..." but now I dunno man~
If the Elite Four left the Pokemon League area you'd have to make an appointment I guess. That'd be a little lame, but more realistic. I'd think they would only be there on certain days anyway.
I've always been a little disappointed with the ending to Pokemon games. You beat the Elite Four, get your team added to the Hall of Fame.... then they act like they've never seen you before the next time you show up. Nobody else in the world acknowledges your accomplishment except for Professor Rowan; I'd think that all the trainers would either be bowing at your feet or lining up to challenge you.
It did feel different in Gold/Silver/Crystal because of the move to Kanto and the challenging of Ash, which made it feel like I'd progressed through a story.

Ever wonder why after becoming the champion, you can't sit in a room for several hours a day?

And occasionally goes to Island Two to buy energy bars.
