So, the guys have been declared innocent. There was no evidence other than the girls that they commited the rape in the first place, yet their names have been dragged through the mud for about a year.
How should they be compensated and should the girl be punished?

Seeing as the girl is so mentally ill, she probably won't receive much, if any, punishment.
However, the DA who was so adamant about the athletes' guilt should get sued big time. No person in his position shouldn't act with such disregard for the legal system.

I am glad about this. They were innocent, but the one thing that sucks is that it will be with them for the rest of their lives.

Agreed. There was absolutly no evidence apart from the word of that woman who claimed she was raped, and last I checked, that doesn't convict a person. As for the DA, he needs to rethink what he says before going public like that. :\

Duke sucks.
With that out of the way, I'm glad this finally got to this point. Now, all we need is the real justice; that DA should be sued for all he's got, because he's permanently destroyed the reputations of these players, and he did so on false premises.

I agree that the DA is the main person to blaim, but I also think that falsly accusing people of rape should have serious consequences. Also, FireStarter, where did you hear that she was mentally ill?

the link wrote: Cooper offered no explanation for why the woman told such a story and would not discuss her mental health. However, he said no charges will be brought against her, saying she "may actually believe" the many different stories she told.
"We believe it is in the best interest of justice not to bring charges," he said.
I had also heard before (on somewhere else I can't remember) about her seriously "not being all there."
