Stop - things change.
Shinies are determined by DVs of the pokemon in the metals generation (GSC).
Because the father passes down the DVs, if the father is shiny, so will the child. IE, the golden magikarp will form from red gyarados.
So, if the father was shiny, its a 100% chance
If the father isn't shiny, its a 0% chance, i think.
Its only with the introduction of 32 different IVs in advanced, that the shinies are independant of DVs/IVs
Ok then lol... well can you explain to me that when after obtaining a shiny ditto and breeding it with my FEMALE Typhlosion, why i have so far hatched 18, yes 18!!!!, eggs and not ONE of them has turned out to be a shiny level 5 cyndaquil???
I know that the chance in finding a shiny in the wild is 1/8192 which is quite insane, but ive clocked up 171 Hours and 56 Minutes on my Crystal Cartridge and have not ONCE encountered a WILD SHINY!!! and surely to god i have seen more than 8000 wild pokemon by now. Is it just bad luck or what?! How many more eggs have I got to hatch to get a SHINY level 5 from it??? I heard from other sites that the odds were knocked down to around 1/64. To support this, this is what i found from a random FAQ i found a while back on breeding:
"To get a shiny Pokemon, the following conditions must be met:
The left digit of the random Attack/Defense value must be 2, 3, 6, 7, A, B, E, or F.
The gene-passing parent's Defense gene must be A.
The left digit of the random Speed/Special value must be A.
The gene-passing parent's Special must be 2 or A.
You can figure out the chance of getting a Shiny by determining the odds of the desired gender of the baby, then look below:
Remember, one of the parents must meet the requirements above, and the desired gender is the inverse of that parent.
If the baby has a 100% chance of getting the desired gender, or one of its
parents is a Ditto that meets the above requirements, the odds it will be shiny is 1:64 (8:512).
If the baby has a 87.5% chance of getting the desired gender, the odds it will be shiny is 7:512.
If the baby has a 75% chance of getting the desired gender, the odds it will be shiny is 3:256 (6:512).
If the baby has a 50% chance of getting the desired gender, the odds it will be shiny is 1:128 (4:512).
If the baby has a 25% chance of getting the desired gender, the odds it will be shiny is 1:256 (2:512).
If the baby has a 12.5% chance of getting the desired gender, the odds it will be shiny is 1:512.
NOTE: The odds of finding a shiny in the wild is 16:65536, or 1:4096"

its all VERY confusing with all these random numbers and genes, but it also mentioned that its IMPOSSIBLE to breed a shiny from 2 shiny pokemon, whereas ive seen clearly on other sites that it says if u breed 2 shinies u get a shiny obviously... But i tried it and it said the pokemon were 'Brimming with energy' and according to this FAQ they could not possibly produce an egg, similar to the legendaries...
Anyone wanna help me out here??
