I don't think they'll use a skateboard or a car to be honest, i mean a skateboard is much slower than a bike, and can you really imagine that Nintendo are going to support a ten year old kid driving around in a car? i don't think so. However it would be interesting if you could use say a bus or a tram system as transportation, like the train in Johto, only not. And also is there any need for a car when you can get Fly? I highly doubt it.
Even though it is a cool fantasy

You should be able to fly any where on the Shinou map including the routes and stuff

I think that the E4 is at the top right side and you cross the mountains there to get there. After the E4 you should get to go to the rest of the map on the right side of the mountains then only. It'll be like an extremely large area with the same concept as the Sevii Islands in FR/LG. My opinion only though.

I like your Idea just the only difference from the Sevii islands should be no Nintendo Events

There is 5 squares (mega cities such as: saffron and slateport), 7 lines/double lines (locations such as: trainstations, power plant, etc.), 5 dots (simple towns such as: odale, littleroot), one colored box thing (starting point ), many double routes
if you're confused when i mean double routes look how thick they are
= is a double
-- is regular.
see the difference. that means more space. definately bigger and better.

I read on wikipedia that the three lakes are for the psychic legendary trio that team Galaxy capture - you know, the ones who look the same but with different heads. Once you free them they go to their respective lakes. I might be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure.
