but i can never make up my mind of who will qualify to my team. even all water starters pokemon are great! i like water types since they are well balanced and have good stats and learn ice types moves =D
well here are probably my favourites:-
blastoise
feraligator
swampert
sharpedo
crawdaunt
vapereon
lanturn
lapras...........
and all this came up in 5 seconds LOL! and there are more that i am sure of that are even better but cant think rite now. i just wanna know what water type pokemon would u qualify for your team and give good reasons so i can get encourage by these.

My favourites have to be...
Starmie because of its sweeping capabilities and it has the Natural Cure ability.
Kingdra because its only weakness is dragon and the Swift Swim ability make this pokemon faster with raindance but almost all water pokemon have it.
Ludicolo because it can recover HP like crazy if it has Rain Dish and giga drain, holding Leftovers.
That's mine anyway...

tantrik u ar right. there are tons of good pokemon (except starter), that's why i had never chosen a water starter in my history of playing pkmn games. On the contrary, i can only find a good fire pokemon (except starter), .
qualified to my team in GSC and FrLg and also RBY becoz of its destructive attacking power.
are in my team in RSE.
Actually i think that is the best, becoz of its ultra-extremely high hp, only slightly lower than average defense, and slightly over average atk and sp.atk power.

Ludicolo because of its Mexican psychoticness, I would give it Surf, Giga Drain, Ice Beam, and Thunderpunch/Fire Punch.
Swampert because of its immunity to Electric, and it's cool, man. Brick Break, Ice Beam, Earthquake, and Surf.

suicune is of coz good, but what i stress is, even not including starters and legendaries, there are tons of very good water-type Pokemon.
tantrik, in fact i think some Pokemon u listed in the first post are only "good" water pkmns, but not "very good", such as crawdnut, sharpedo.
For slowbro, i tend to regard him as a psychic one, also i think he is only a good water pokemon. For kingler, his sp.atk, which is important for water pkmn, are low, so i dun think it is a very good water pkmn
other than gyarados and wailord, there ar also other favourites:
kanto: gyarados, blastoise, , , poliwrath
Johto: kingdra, feraligatr, politoed
hoenn: wailord, walrein, milotic

true that, as a pokemon trainer, i often do experiments, trying to see who are good and not, comparing and all, and it is true that there a "good" water pokemon but there are better ones. thats why i need help in getting sum ideas.
thanks

I really don't see kingdras as too useful. To me, the addition of a dragon type making their only weakness dragon attacks is a red-herring. It makes it appear like it's strong, but its stats are too low to be effective. While they may be the best pokemon that has swift swim (other than ludicolos but who uses a ludicolo w/swift swim and not rain dish?) a kingdra can still be easily taken out by a good neutral attack.

I really don't have a great preference for water-types, but if I had a water-based team (which I don't yet) I'd probably do:
@ Shell Bell
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Earthquake
-Brick Break
I've found Blastoise to be a defense-heavy pokemon, which basically means even 2x special effective attacks won't damage it too badly.
@ Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Body Slam/Psychic
-Thunderbolt
It'd be pretty good against other water-based teams, and its high HP will maximize the leftovers' usage.
@ Shell Bell
-Surf/Water Spout
-Ice Beam
-Thunder
-Calm Mind
Special sweeper, clearly, water spout just loses some of Surf's accuracy. I toyed with the idea of using Rest, but that would just take 3 turns, even worse than Hyper Beam's 2 turns.
@ Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Rest/Encore
-Snore/Body Slam
Surf & Ice Beam are STAB attacks, even though apart from HP Walrein's pretty average. The Stockpile/Swallow/Spitup trio occured to me as possible, but not if I wanted any STAB points. Encore/Body Slam seemed alright, but I haven't tried them out as yet.
@ Shell Bell
-Aerial Ace
-Ice Beam
-Water Pulse
-Steel Wing
To deal with the friskier part-ice types that won't succumb to the water attacks and electric attacks.
@ Sitrius Berry -> Rock Head
-Metal Claw/Iron Tail
-Rock Slide
-Earthquake/Double Edge
-Swagger
Physical sweeper, plain & pretty simple. Swagger's increased damage should be taken care of with Aggron's high defense. Earthquake sacrifices power against recoil, but if it has Rock head, Double Edge is more powerful, and EQ doesn't hit ghosts anyway.
I thought the other possibility over would be:
@ Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Flamethrower
-Psychic
Surf and Psychic are STAB (again) and Ice Beam can be switched out for something else (Shadow Ball?), but no water-type seems complete without it (not to me anyway). Flamethrower surprised me, but Slowking apparently can learn it, which takes care of nasty grass/bug/steel/ice types (eeeeeek!!!).
So that's my would-be team. What do ya'll think?

Wouldn't this team be kind of open to electric attacks? Say if I went
Lapras w/Thunderbolt or Thunder
Kyogre w/Thunder
Ludicolo w/Mega or Giga drain
Latias w/Dragon Claw & Thunderbolt
Or something along those lines? Kind of close to Wallace's team if I remember correctly...

it isn't really a team, it's kind of just a suggestion thing, if it was a team, I'd use Swampert over Gyarados.

Water Pokemon aren't exactly pokemon I use a lot, I dont really like them, but if I had to choose a few i'd use in a team...
Ludicolo, people have said why. ^^^
Any of the 3rd evo starters. (Blastoise, Feraligatr, Swampert) All very good.
Gyarados, defensive.
Kingdra is also, pretty darn good.

I'd go with Suicune or Ludicolo (again, that same reason)
water squads aren't that good anyway. (well, water type team is 1 of the best team squads you can actually make)
right now my minds on my "dragon-egg group" team, it'll be cool.

What I find weird is that most of you have overlooked Lapras, plz. Lapras, although having Grass, Electric, Fighting and Rock as weaknesses, is an amazing pokemon plz.
Milotic, Lanturn, Corsola and Feraligatr i would also choose, plz.

I haven't overlooked , it's 1 of my fave pokemon, and got a decent movepool, not to mention I always used them in GSC.

Best water type? Quagsire. Made it onto my Gold and Emerald teams thanks to the All-Beating Earthquake , high attack and Water Absorb!
Perfect moveset? Earthquake, Surf, Rain Dance, Ice Beam.

Cool! Hadn't realized Quagsire had such a...combination...What about this one?
@ Scope Lens
Quiet, SD-252 HP-120 Att-132
-Yawn
-Surf
-Earthquake
-Ancient Power
Surf and Earthquake are STAB, Yawn is to keep the opponent down, AP is sort of filler and to possibly increase stats. Max it out with PP UPs or a PP MAX. Plus, it takes advantage of increased attack, which is already good.
