The poll is self explainatory. Which do you like better?
I prefer Beautifly, both because I think it looks cooler and because in my opinion it has a better moveset. Plus, I don't really like Poison element PkMn (not sure why, though).
[EDIT: Beautifly is my favorite out of the two Hoenn generation choices, but Butterfree owns them both. Heh, I guess I forgot about poor little Butterfree when I wrote this the first time...]
*Edit from sN0w:
Edited your post slightly, and changed the title (and hence the purpose of the thread) as well. There's potential for discussion of Bug Pokemon, in my opinion. However, please let me know if you do not want such a change to this topic.

Neither. Go Butterfree. Both of those pokemon combined cannot match Butterfree in coolness, looks, and movepool.

Well, lets look at bugs, FOR A MINUTE!!!
-Get STAB on Bug moves, which are good against the most powerful pokemon in the game (especially uber, as determined by a very good site) Mewtwo, Mew, T-tar, Deoxys, Toxi-Trapping Umbreon, etc. Heck, 75% of the ubers cant kill a stinky little Shedinja. THATS SAD!!
-Most learn one of the best combos in the game. Silverwind and baton pass. And look at ninjask. It gets speed boost, which raises the speed every turn. by the 6th turn, its maxed out.
-Weird abilities.
--Wonder Guard and Speed Boost were mentioned above.
--Compound Eyes increase accuracy at the beginning of the first turn. That can sometimes mean the difference between Sleep Powder or something w/ low (or for that matter, a high 90%) accuracy hitting or not.
-Easy Level up. Compare the exp of a Level 100 Hariyama and the exp of a level 100 Volbeat. BIG DIFFERENCE
-Common. Very easy to fiond them, so you can just wait until you find a good one.
-Some are good for battling. I mentioned Shedinja above for Uber, Ninjask for baton-lovers, but some are actuallyy decent for regular battling. Armaldo > Cradily because of a higher Atk. Heck, Armaldo > Hariyama in Atk, Medicham after its ability, Zangoose, etc, and outclassed by Machamp by a mere 5 points. Its not to far behind Groudon (only 25, and even Groudon is beaten in some cases.)
-Bad news...
--...REPEATS. There are too many bug/flying and bug/poison. Good ideas included armaldo and the unevolved surskit, and they should have made a fully evolved water/bug type.
-...WEAKNESSES. Flying (now popularized w/ Aerial Ace), Fire (Necessarry to deal with bug/steel types [namely baton passing scizor and stalling forretress]), and Rock (being used more and more are Rock Slide for Flinching and Rock Blast for power, and to take down flying types)
-Good EV training. Mix records, and fight the person who has Beautifly or Dustox. THE EVs RACK UP! Beautifly supplies 3 EVs for Satk, while Dustox gives 3 EVs for SDef.
Getting back to the task at hand, Beautifly and Dustox were meant to remind people of Butterfree and Beedrill, respectively. Good for collectors.

Some changes to this thread. See note in first post for full details. Please let me know, Miasma, if you mind these changes. I've kept the poll though, since you might need the information.

Scizor has always been my one of my favourites, but for that poll, I chose Butterfree because it's something I would use instead of the other two.
I think the bug type is very interesting, I really wish that they make more powerful ones in the future.

destroys and , in my opinion.
However, I have always liked because of the STAB'd Megahorn (see sig). Not many Bug pokemon get good STAB except him, the best being Signal Beam, but most make me when I look at their very mediocre stats.

We might as well have a new poll: Which bug group is best
a.) Caterpie Family, Weedle Family, Venonat Family, Wurmple Family, Masquerain
b.) Heracross, Scyther, Pinsir, Anorith Family, Surskit
c.) Paras Family, Pineco, Spinarak Family, Ledyba Family, Shuckle, Yanma
d.) Scizor, Forretress
e.) Nincada Family
f.) Volbeat, Illumise
Pretty much...
a.) Standard bug typing
b.) Powerful ones
c.) Weak (better typing exists, or better ones in general [ie. shuckle vs. armaldo])
d.) Those w/ 1 weakness
e.) Freaky abilities (Speed Boost, Wonder Guard)
f.) Sexually seperated

DARZA77 WROTE:
"{hexacross} is the ultimate bug pokemon"
That's a valid opinion, Darza, but why do you feel that way? Is it the ridiculously high Mega Horn STAB bonus, or is it just a cool PkMn in your opinion?

Out of all the bug Pokemon, Butterfree pwns. I picked Beautifly though because I like to use it in contests.

I prefer randomly, though I don't really like any of them. I especially hate , though. It looks too much like a realistic butterfly. I prefer pokemon that are a bit cartoonised.
::EDIT::
Well, {beautyfly} doesn't have compoundeyes, but butterfree does... Meh, guess they're equal.
P.S. Heracross = pure ownage! (STABbed MHorn, B Break).

I don't know, Cal. Beautifly looks more like a realistic butterfly to me. I mean, Butterfree has little feet and fangs. I think I'd cry if I saw a real butterfly like that...
The most realistic looking winged bug I think is either Yanma or Venomoth.
Oh, and I saw a caterpillar in my garden that had colorings and markings that very closely resembled a backwards Caterpie once, only instead of a cute little red antennae it had a huge red barb. Here's a picture of it in case anyone cares:

For comparison:
Oddly enough, it metomorphosizes into a moth, not a butterfly...

Off topic: Your Caterpie has a horn!!!
On topic: Anyways, Beautifly's Moveset works better in contests than it is in battles. A Buttefree's moveset does work in battles and contests. Sooo, Butterfree, according to many people, pretty much pwns all the butterflys, caterpillars, giant horned blue bugs, and every other type of bug.

I prefer , more than the other two.
Butterfree, is way cooler than Beautifly, and Dustox.
You forgot to add poor Beedrill.
I can tell you right now guys and girls, that is an imitation of . So is copied from . (If none of you believe me, then check those four Pokemon' types and compare)

is what I prefer of the three, bcoz I like it with the move psychic, but my favorite bug type is . Good for long battles, especially if taught toxic (I dont know if it can be taught double team and/ or swagger).

I suppose I would choose{butterfree}. but One of my faves has always been , I just think a giant wasp is a cool creature to have on your side, it is also the only pokemon capable of poisoning steel types (with its twineedle attack).

I reckon a bug+ fire type would rock, it could be a fire ant or a bombardier beetle (Sprays two chemicals from it's abdomen that mix together on contact with oxygen and produce temperatures of 60c degrees, it has to release the chemicals in a rapid fire action to allow it's body to cool down otherwise it would blow it's own backside off.)

I like for contests, but otherwise I like . It is part steel for against Psychics and is half fighting which makes it weak against Psychics. But, it's all about opinion.

Well, I've decided to come up with some short "views" on a few Bug Pokemon. Here they are:
: Meh. I don't really like it. But it can be cooler than Beautifly... Sometimes. I like it's Psychic move-type combatibilty, though.
: Got to be my favourite of the basic Bug Final Evos. And poisining Steel types is indeed a nice gift. Round about the first generation of games Beedrill was actually pretty good in battle, IMO. But unfortunatly has been weakened severly through the later generations.
: Prefered more than in my case, but I still don't really like it. It's movepool isn't very unique, and is very unpotent in battle.
: Moths are cool, but this one isn't. It lacks offence and Speed, and can be OHKOd by most Psybeams +.
: By far the most powerful Bug in the entire game. If it lasts, it is capable of OHKOing , though the chances are slim to none. Also one of my favourite Pokemon.
: Pretty good in combat, and looks very good too. Capable of both BPing and physical sweeping, and with only one weakness; It's definatly ranked 2nd place as a "Most Powerful Bug type".
: IMO, Pinsir is very bad In-Game. The only STAB is gets is HP, and In-Game it's almost impossible to get a half-decent HP and perfect IVs. Doesn't look to good either. Best to use in NB only.
Meh, those are quite a few of my views on Bug Pokemon. I don't really think much for any others... Accept , but the reason I've not listed it is because it's basically Scizors pre-evo. Nothing much to say about it, really.

You know that Scyther has the same typing of butterfree, right?
Prtty much, A butterfree with the stats of pinsir.
Run it through the pokemon comparer
Scyther has less attack and def, but has better SDef, Speed, and HP.
Add Scizor in to the comparer. It actually has lower speed than scyther. But has more TM capabilities.

I knew that already. It's just that I thought it'd be a bit pointless giving and overall view.
