Swampert is slow, and couldn't get in Ice beam before Sceptile used leaf Blade. At least blaziken and sceptile have chances of killing the rival's pokemon.

Yeah, but what attacks would they use to do so?

The Ice Beam capability is one good thing about Swampert. Yeah, he's slow, but watch out when it's his turn! I can't think of anything Blaziken or Sceptile can learn that would be super-effective against the rival's Pokemon outside of TM's (I could be wrong, though. Correct me if I am. )

Blaziken vs. swampert: Slash is good, and the rival is bound to have muddy water

Blaziken: Aerial Ace, EQ,

I'm not saying that you can defeat the rival with non-tm/hm moves, its just that marshtomp and swampert would get slaughtered by leaf blade or mega drain before they can make a move.

Yes, I do agree with you on that aspect; Swampert is hopelessly slow. I personally think that it's pointless how unbalanced the starters are in the Hoenn games.

Swampert is ridiculously sluggish, but if you give him the chance he can essentially wipe the floor with the other two starters. Ice beam on Sceptile, Surf, EQ, and God knows what else on Blaziken. Yeah, they've got speed on him, but if you know how to use him he can obliterate the other two (which I hate to admit because I despise the Swampert family...).

Also, Sceptile got the short end of the deal when it comes to elements. The other two starters eventually end up as dual elements, but not this one. It's straight Grass the whole way. They could've at least thrown in a Bug element. Yes, it would be sort of pointless to do so, but at least they would all be dual elements.

It just seems like the Hoenn starters are completely unlevel (I had to point that out...it was bugging me.)

I'd go for {torchic}, it evolves into {blaziken}.

...{blaziken} is my best starter pal here in the hoenn series; even though I raise all 3.

...good for me, my "Flareth" has a RASH nature (SPAtk +), knows flamethrower, bulk up, sky uppercut, and thunderpunch.

...good for sweeping, ain't it?

A lot of people i asked said that starting with Treecko is the trick to winning the game, but i always start with Mudkip because Swampert is my favorite Pokemon and hes tough. Personally i just traded Blaziken and Sceptile to my Emerald so i can have all 3

Swampert has unbalanced stats. No staying power, whatsoever. And, it won't get the first hit (well, almost never. A jolly might be able to outrun a sassy metagross)

Blaziken trades its rock weakness for a psychic and fling weakness, so that doesn't really help it.

Yea, I would choose Sceptile because he is a great physical and special sweeper. He also has a great move pool to choose from. So i would go with sceptile.

I think mudkips the best because it eliminates one of waters 2 weaknesses though Swampert does have x4 against grass which adds up to only 2 weaknesses. Sceptile has 5 weaknesses and Blaziken has 4......do the math.

I recently restarted and chose Mudkip. The electric Gym Leader was easy to beat and I think he's better than Treecko. I used Treecko in my last game and he was easily knocked out. Plus you could EV train Mudkip's speed and get one with a nature that gives you more speed.

Why does everyone say: "Torchic if you're an expert player?" Torchic is very easy to defeat the game with, if you also have backup to cover it's weaknesses. Especially when it evolves.

I always pick {torchic} and when I choose anyone else, I regret it. {torchic} is the best pokemon, but be careful when you get to the 7th gym. Confusion can kick {blaziken} ass.

Gym 1: Torchic is weak to rock moves.
Gym 4: Fire = Fire, no resistance, no offensive advantages.
Gym 6: Flyning, nuff said
Gym 7: Psychic, nuff said.

I usually get Mudkip. Then, I teach it Ice Beam.

I understand that you don't get the Ice Beam TM right away but once you do, your Swampert will be perfectly fine in everything.

My Swampert on the Emerald I got a week ago is lvl 54, and it knows Earthquake, Dig, Ice Beam, and Water Pulse. (I <3 TMs xD)

Swampert/Marshtomp/Mudkip is good, IMHO, because it only has one weakness, and it can learn a move that can smite Pokemon of that type.

Winona + My Swampert w/ Ice Beam =

-edit- Oh, and I know Ice Beam only has 10 PP but that's what Ether/Elixir/PP Up/PP Max/Leppa Berries are for :D

to me the best RSE starter would be........... muddy^^ its may have only 1main weakness but has so many strengths like it can take down both of the starters(well mine can anyways^^). mine has these moves.(on ruby)

take down

attract

ice beam

surf

take note that mine is a female swamppy[/url]

I think it depends on your personality. Just by going by types of gyms and E4 types though u get this

{sceptile} weak against gyms 4, 6, E4 Glacia; strong aginst gyms 1, 3, 8
{blaziken} weak against gyms 1, 6, 7, 8, E4 Champ (if on emerald); strong aginst gym 5, E4 Sidney, E4 Glacia, E4 Champ (if on ruby/Sapphire)
{swampert} weak against no gyms, strong against gyms 1, 3, 4, E4 Champ (if on ruby/Sapphire)

So it really depends on what u back it up with there really is no best starter.

Swampert all the way {swampert}
If you put Swellow in with him you can't lose.
SW club forever

Also if you pick Treeko you need serious help. :frustrated:
You should go.
Start over.
Now.
Pick Mudkip.
Win.
