The map of johto. There are many interesting points in this new map of Johto.
1. The river leading to the west just above Cianwood city. Where does this lead? Or is it purely artistic addition to the map?
2. Just below the river, you probably notice Huge expansion in Cianwood city. For me that area could be battle frontier.
3. Whirl islands are really close to Cianwood now.
4. The big golden area above Ecruteak. This is in other artworks already shown to be a forest. Posibly Golden forest to counterpart Mt. Silver.
5. Next to the National park is new area. Perhaps some sort of arena?
6. Ruins of Alph (Below Violet city) seems to be expanded. Quite major layout change I see.
7. River now running through the path south from Blackthorn.
8. Rails in mountains and next to Goldenrod. Most probably Monorail from Saffron to Goldenrod.
9. The silver mountain in probably Indigo Plateau, because the threeway point splits just below it.
9b. So it seems that Mt. silver is not in Mt. Silver.
Think, speak, and speculate these new and revamped areas.

Cianwood area is battle frontier according to bulbapedia. Could Golden forest be in heart gold, while MT. Silver is in Soul Silver?
Ruins of Alph has a place called Shinto Ruins, where you can get an egg of Giratina, Palkia, or Dialga. Heh ubers in little cup.

I don't think that Mt. Silver is version exclusive. It wasn't in GSC. Would Golden forest have something to do with the events of jirachi and Celebi? While I know this is very unprobabble, since Ilex forest shrine and Mt. Moon, it could be possible.

Jirachi unlocks an area in the PokeWalk, called Edge of Night Sky. It might not unlock anything in Mt. Moon. Maybe they have replaced Tin Tower with Golden Forest?

The 'golden forest' looks more like a desert, from what I can see.

Soul Silver --> Lugia --> Mt. Silver
Heart Gold --> Ho-oh --> Golden Thing
Some special in-game event if you bring the legendaries there ?

It wasn't version specific in GSC, why would it be in the remakes? Look at FRLG, and note (please) that the gameplay didn't change. Same Pokes weren't available in those games, and the features (with some obvious exceptions) were the same.
Those things that were version-specific, most importantly, didn't change. Why would they make that different than FRLG? BTW, Mt. Silver was just off Indigo Plateau last time. Looks to me like they just decided the mountain should be on top of it...
Where is Violet City anyway?

Yes Lugia will likely be in Whirl Islands and Ho-oh will be in Tin Tower. If their locations do change(like Moltres did in FRLG) then I'm sure that they'll both be in both games as per GS originally.
Also Violet City is the one slap bang in the middle with the tower you should be able to see.

About the place next to Cianwood, it may be a kind of battle frontier... if you look closely, it looks like it is separated in 6 areas... 6 frontier medals ?

I'm guessing there's a courtyard then five areas but.. *shrug* Like everything else in this forum, just speculation.

I read somewhere (serebii I think) that an event with Jirachi opened up a new area in HGSS. This might be the "Golden Forest" everyone's been talking about. Also, i really hope that that's a battle frontier in Cinawood 'cause I've never bought a game that had one .

Pokexa, thanks for that. I put New Bark in the wrong place...
If I remember correctly, the one southernmost town will be Azalea, wouldn't it?
Wonder if you'll be able to rechallenge Gym Leaders...

The frontier is confirmed and has been for a while. Golden Forest could be a place for a legendary not in GSC, maybe Latias/Latios? Also has the Kanto map been shown? that would answer the possibility of mewtwo.

Hey everyone, im new to this site and i was just wondering if anyone would give me updates of the new heartGold and SoulSilver coming out. Also, I like the new map of the Johto but to me, it still looks the same as it is in the old Gold and Silver, I just can't wait to play the new game when it comes out. ok, hope someone would like to help me keep up to date with the new HGSS.

I was looking at the map again when i noticed this large river up north to cianwood city that goes to the left of the map... Where do you think it leads ?
Personnaly i think it maight just lead to a new area like orange islands for example or some place you c an catch pokemon from the 3rd and 4th generation maybe...
Anyways it might be interesting to know...

Yeah..I just notice that too, that got me pump up now for the game, i can't wait til it comes out. I know the Sinnoh region is that way from Johto, but it just might be the orange lsland, who knows.

the orange islands i bet is out of the question. the anime is based on the games. and orange islands was basically a filler season before silver and gold came out sine they were just big releases.
some of my information though i picked up from wikipedia....so some of that might be wrong haha
but the river probably could lead to somewhere like Sevii Islands was for FR/LG...? who knows though. we'll just have to wait and see
