EDIT: Bah, I've been had. I thought he meant if something affected the game by catching them, like expanded the pokedex or something. My bad.

sir i'm afraid you are incorrect
You get a fancy Pokedex diploma from the Game Freak people in Celadon (or wherever the hell they are, a combination of Pearl and Super Paper Mario has rotted my brain). Nothing particularly special, just bragging rights and a virtual piece of paper.

Yeah but that's pretty much it. You need to get 150 in the Kanto dex, excluding Mew. (If you have Mew you need to get all 151.)
You can talk to that guy anytime to see the certificate. (Mine looks exactly the same, but it says Amy.)
*yawn* Boring...Ah well that's it then.

What town are the game freak people in? I don't think they are in celadon.

They're in the mansion (yes, in Celadon), 3rd floor I believe.

You have to have a winning streak of 50 in the battle tower, and I think the last star is obtained by completing the national dex.

I've never bothered to complete the national dex, but you get a star for completing it (well getting 382 of 386 Pokemon - you don't need Mew, Jirachi, Celebi or Deoxys), and you might get another diploma for completing the National Dex.

Well, in that case you can never get them either. Unless you trade from someone who has one, of course.

You can still beat 50 trainers in the battle tower. It is located on Island 7.

I do, but I can't show you a snapshot.
As said before, two of the stars are beating the E4 once and completing the Kanto dex.
The other two are completing the National Dex (minus the unobtainables), and something having to do with the Dodrio berry-picking game. Which I can never do because I only have 2 GBAs, 2 Adapters, and 2 games compatible.
Eh, I'll be stuck as silver forever. At least it's good to look at.
