The first shiny I caught while chaining was a shiny ditto and that was only after 8!
oddly enough after that the next two were normal then it broke on a shellos.
remember you chance doubles for each pokemon chained
1/8192
1/4096
1/2048
1/1024
1/512
1/256
1/128
1/64
1/32
1/16
1/8
1/4
1/2
1/1

actually no.... that is not true.
you could read the rest of this thread and then maybe understand how the chaining formula works.
its a lot more complicated that you saying. it doesn't just double that chances. if it did then after a chain of 15 or so every pokemon would be shiny.
do some research before you comment please.

I don't think the formulas are correct I have found shinys while chaining say after 25 that was not what I was chaining, I steped in the wrong patch
What I just wrote up in my last post is the chance of a shiny appearing in any patch
Gold or Shiny patch means: Its shiny AND Its what your chaining

I think shiny patches have a 1% chance of being something other than what you're chaining.
And gold patches != shiny patches.

The formula IS correct. Your chances of finding a shiny increase as you continue the chain. Just because you catch something on the 25th link in the chain doesn't mean that your chances must be doubling with each new link. The people responsible for discovering the formula did their homework. It has been mathematically proven.
Please do as Axio suggests and read the rest of the thread before you comment. Your misguided statements will only serve to confuse people who are new to chaining.

-_- you really think people would start at the begining of a topic, especialy when it gives you information thats been proven by many people. O and i tested the 3D glasses theory on but the snow and sandstorm and they seem to make a small amount of difference but it is better

well alright then, in other news nintendo has made the unchainable chainable. Swinub can now be chained in platinum thanks to its change in address.

Oh? Hmm...I wonder if there have been other similar changes made in Platinum... Interesting.
Caught a shiny Ponyta recently. I would've gone for one or two more, but eh... I used to have time to chain. Not much anymore. That was actually the first chain I've done in over a year.

i recently started chaining, and decided to start easy so i caught shiny pachirisu, oddish and togepi. for some reason i decided to go for eevee today, i kneww it would be hard cause of it's low encounter rate. my chain broke at 35 D:. does anyone know the shiny probability if your chain is like 30? at 40 i know it's 1/200 ishh cause i'm about to try again, but if 30 is good enough i'll just keep resetting then.

In addition to Swinub, Croagunk is also chainable!
The chaining probability at 30 is still very small from what I remember. Even at 39, it's still smaller, which is why 40 is the best. In my thread a few topics down I wrote the formula I found, but I don't think it makes sense.

you need to move the decimal 2 places to the right to make it a percentage and not just a decimal

Well, I'm really considering training a team for that World Championship thing. Chained/caught some Gligars today so I could breed for IVs, and I came across a shiny one :o

You mean IVs? EVs are what you get from fighting other pokemon.
HP 20 - 24
Attack x1.1 17 - 20
Defense x0.9 7 - 10
Special Attack 26 - 29
Special Defense 20 - 24
Speed 5 - 9
Eww, basically.
