k heres the question: in gold/silver/crystal, can u lay down more than one round of spikes for cumulative damage every time ur opponent switches? ive tried this with skarmory in stadium 2 and every time i try to lay down a second round of spikes, it fails. lolstop however states that skarmory can be used to "lay down three rounds of spikes and roar". so that just confused me a bit.

I'm don't know why your second round always fails though. It may be due to bad luck? Haha... What I know is, you can lay up to three rounds of Spikes in any Pokemon game. I'm pretty sure of that.

Maybe it's because you sharked Spikes on Skarmory (It can only learn it in RSEFRLG not GSC), try doing it with a Forretress and see if it works.

No, Spikes will not accumulate in Gold, Silver or Crystal. It only accumulates in Ruby/Sapphire/FireRed/LeafGreen/Colosseum. Serebii is either wrong, or is talking about the Advance Games.

ye i had the same problem when i sharked spikes on skarmory to beat the prime cup in stadium2 but later figured that it prob differs in effect from the later generation games...

does that make the toxic-spike-shufflin skarmory in g/s/c pretty much useless since spikes does so little damage in one round?

If I remember correctly, Spikes deals 1/8 * HP damage on switching in Stadium2/G/S/C, which is alright damage I guess. The thing is, Toxic reverts to normal poison in those games, so you lose the increase in poison damage each turn. That stinks. So I guess a ToxicSpikesShuffle Skarmory is kinda useless - most people just used it as a Roarer because of its high defense.

no thats not true...toxic does increase in damage every turn. it has done so from the very beginning (r/b/y) and applies to every single pokemon game (rpg/battle) ever since.

Yeah uh.. I kinda left out a few words. If a Pokemon is affected by Toxic, you can switch it out, then switch it back again. While it will still be poisoned, the poison damage won't increase. The good people (or person, jman) at Metalloid have thoroughly researched this http://www.angelfire.com/pa4/jman/toxic.html

Suppose your foe, a Magicarp, has Toxic. It gets 1 damage the first turn, 2 damage the next, 4 damage on the third, and so on. Now I use Roar and the foe switches to a Feebas. I use Toxic on Feebas. Then I use Roar again. Out comes Magicarp again. The next turn, Magicarp will receive damage as though it has just been affected by Toxic. Meaning the next turn it'll only receive 1 damage, and 2 the next and so on.

Does this make it seem simpler?

wait so is snowball and tonberryking disagreeing?

tonberry says that after switching toxic wont increase anymore, but snowball is saying that it will just reset but steadily increases anyway...

so on the whole im still confused but i hold to the opinion that toxic just resets after switching...maybe wrong tho

we seriously need a game mechanics forum/sticky topic where ppl can just ask those in-depth questions bout moves, damage, etc.

EDIT: ye just read the stuff on topic from the url but ill have test it on stadium2
