It is certainly unlike the people of Nintendo to include such random things in the games that have no purpose other than discovering that the boyfriend doesn't like the little brother (that's only funny if you know what I mean...)

Agreed, but it just seems a little random of them to put a hotel in the middle of Celadon city, where there is hardly any other plac in the game that has anything similar. At least in Red and Blue, it gave us amusment to watch our friend's jaw drop as you accessed an invisible PC. Now it exists only to tell you that they are booked up every night. Woo.

Yeah, most things in that game have a purpose for being there but the hotel is for show. It just used to be a pokecenter...end of story.
