Wake even tells you that his badge allows you to use defog outside of battle _________________

If you spread them out across your team for the in-game part, it really doesn't make a difference since none of the trainers are skilled enough for you to need non-damaging moves. _________________

Lol, the first 2 pokemon i caught are my HM slaves. I dont think you technically need Fly, Defog, Cut, or Rock Smash, but im not 100% sure. Can someone confirm?

I thought there were only 8 HMs... And you only need cut at the start of the game so you can delete it when you first meet the move deleter. Rock smash just p's me off though since it has a really low attack power but you still need it for Victory Road. _________________
