This doesn't necessarily have to mean, 'sea' verses 'land'. I believe this means that they are opposites, such as Mewtwo and Mew. Their points of view of totally different, one looking to control life, the other to enjoy it as it is.

I'll soar as high as I may go
This maybe means that the 'one' in this poem, will rise to the expectations of those above him, or try and prove his worth/judgment. Combined with the next line, it shows they are in a great battle and they are not agreeing with what it is saying, and it's saying it WILL prove it's point.

And show them where I stand
This last line implies that the thing this poem is about someone who's caught in the middle; someone, maybe the Chosen one for instance.
