im pretty new to pokemon (started half a year ago) and very new to netbattle. id love some input on my team. i dont mind criticism - i will even translate nonconstructive criticism if necessary. just do what comes naturally.

{aerodactyl} (M) @ Liechi Berry ** Terror
Trait: Rock Head
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Aerial Ace
- Earthquake
- Roar
- Rock Slide

{gengar} (M) @ Leftovers ** Ghost
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Ice Punch
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt

{ludicolo} (M) @ Leftovers ** Ariba
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 160 Def / 96 Spd / 252 SAtk
Hardy Nature (Neutral)
- Ice Beam
- Leech Seed
- Rain Dance
- Surf

{starmie} @ Leftovers ** Jewel
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Confuse ray
- Surf
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt

{snorlax} (M) @ Leftovers ** Cuddles
Trait: Immunity
EVs: 252 Def / 4 Spd / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Rest
- Return
- Shadow Ball

{blaziken} (M) @ Salac Berry ** Blaze
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Brick Break
- Endure
- Flamethrower
- Reversal

some thoughts of my own.

1) no-one has rapid spin. maybe i should give this to starmie, but what move should i lose?

2) i also dont have enough fighting type moves - thats why blaze knows brick break, also because it is too dangerous using endure when tyranitar is in the picture.

3) terror has roar and rockslide to try and negate the effectiveness of a baton passing ninjask. he used to know double-edge (and rock head ability) and have a choice band, but i decided on roar. is there a better item for him? i thought about leichi berry, but went for the obvious leftovers.

4) ludicolo has rain dance mainly to negate tyranitars sandstream, but also obviously because it makes it extremely fast and boosts the power of surf. i think it needs leech seed to try and counter things like blissey. i love it when seismic toss does damage of about 10HP after leech seed and leftovers.

5) cuddles has 4 speed EVs to (possibly) give him a slight advantage over other snorlaxes. it has helped in a curse-off.

6) there are a few common tricks i am not well-prepared to face, and i really find skarm-bliss so boring i dont even bother trying. i know blaze (my reversalken) can handle them with some amount of success - should i divide the Att and Sp Att EVs to help with this? if he has used endure then flamethrower is very powerful with STAB and blaze (both x1.5).

7) i used to have fire punch on ghost instead of giga drain. but i also used to have a sceptile (blade) instead of ludicolo (ariba), and i thought i needed a grass type move. would it be better to give fire punch to ghost and HP[grass] to ariba instead of ice beam (or leech seed)?

i would really appreciate any help. im a reasonably smart guy (i have a phd in pure mathematics), but i can still learn a lot about pokemon ;)

Aerodactyl (M) @ Liechi Berry ** Terror
Trait: Rock Head
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Aerial Ace
- Earthquake
- Roar
- Rock Slide

Choice Band > Liechi; HP Fly > Aerial Ace; and Double-Edge > Roar. If you want to be more abstract, try Sub, Rock Slide, HP Fly, Protect for some pressure stall.

Gengar (M) @ Leftovers ** Ghost
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Ice Punch
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt

Modest Nature. Drop Psychic for Substitute, Will-o-Wisp, or Destiny Bond. I'm going to say a little less speed and more HP. Just enough to make the HP divisible by 16.

Ludicolo (M) @ Leftovers ** Ariba
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 160 Def / 96 Spd / 252 SAtk
Hardy Nature (Neutral)
- Ice Beam
- Leech Seed
- Rain Dance
- Surf

Calm Nature. Substitute > Rain Dance. Evs mostly in HP and Sp.Def with the rest in Sp.Atk.

Starmie @ Leftovers ** Jewel
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Confuse ray
- Surf
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt

Rapid Spin, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Recover

Snorlax (M) @ Leftovers ** Cuddles
Trait: Immunity
EVs: 252 Def / 4 Spd / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Rest
- Return
- Shadow Ball

You have Rest so Thick Fat > Immunity. Less Def and Speed and more HP. You'll want around 200 Def stat and a 512 HP with a careful nature.

Blaziken (M) @ Salac Berry ** Blaze
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Brick Break
- Endure
- Flamethrower
- Reversal

Fire Blast > Flamethrower. Rock Slide/Earthquake/HP Fly > Brick Break....

You team has little in terms of physical defense so I'll suggest losing Ludicolo for Suicune or Milotic and possibly not using a EndRev Blaziken because of Tyranitar.

that looks good but you may want chesto on {snorlax} for a nice lil wakeup. the {umbreon} is pretty useless against all steels and poison pokemon so you'd be better off getting something else on it besides protect like baton pass or sumthing. and imo, brick break>hi jump kick so if medicham can learn the former, put that in.

Ya I was thinking of putting Chesto on Snorlax, I'll try that out. I don't run into many Steel and Poison Pokemon often so i have no problrm toxi-stalling with Umbreon, so I'm keeping him, but thanks for the tip anyway. For maximum damage I want to keep on Hi-Jump kick, that combined with CB can take out pretty much anything (except Ghosts -.-). Thanks anyways.
i only have poison and steel pokemon on my team. i was thinking about that chesto berry on snorlax and medicham can learn defence moves. if you can gat a blaziken in instead of arcanine. blazikens moves blaze kick>sky upercut>double kick>fire punch.(blaziken whith these moves blaziken can take out the hole R/S/E elite 4 ive got 1).

Maybe go with Jolly. I'd say the fastest you can get it is good seeing as Slaking has low Sp.Def that Lati@s and Kyogre could pick on.

Mewtwo @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
- Barrier
- Psychic
- Solar beam
- Recover

Calm Mind > Barrier. Ice Beam/Flamethrower/Thunderbolt > SolarBeam. But more EVs into HP from Sp.Atk. Go with a Timid or Modest Nature.

Shedinja @ No Item
Trait: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SAtk / 6 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Shadow Ball
- Silver Wind
- Confuse Ray
- Thief

Protect > Thief. Lum Berry as the hold. This will help recover from status and help see if the opponent has some attacks to hit Sheddy. Swords Dance > Confuse Ray.

Kyogre @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
- Calm Mind
- Surf
- Thunder
- Ice Beam

Drop Ice Beam for HP Dark(counters the common Sheddy switch-in), Rest, Substitute, ect. Thunder will hit Dragons hard enough and after some Calm Minds, you'll have little to fear. More EVs into HP and Def.

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 196 HP / 58 Atk / 160 Def / 96 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Drill Peck
- Roar

Meh, I don't know if Skarm will work well in ubers. Max Def if anything.

Deoxys-E @ White Herb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SAtk / 6 Spd
- Psycho Boost
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
- Superpower

With these moves, use Deoxys-F and drop Thunder for T-bolt due to the fact that Groudon and Kyogre screw weather like crazy and you probably won't have the rain out forever.

Timid Kyogre +252 Spd (max): 306

Slaking is the same. Hmmm. Good suggestion.

I already have two ice beam users. Is there a need for three?
I thought it would be nice against groudon.

Shedinja @ No Item

Can Sheddy learn Swords Dance? What good is protect? If they can't affect it they'll switch = wasted turn, if they can they'll kill it next turn or predict switch. I don't see the use.

Yup, thanks.

Well the idea was you can thief the switch and then you switch to sheddy who resists electric.

- Psycho Boost
- Ice Beam

- Superpower

OK, besides everything else wrong with this team, for me the main concern is SkarmBliss. Heracross is completly pwned by Skarm. Even if you switch, that turn lays out nasty spikes all your pok

here is my new team. inspired by some of the comments i received after posting my first team a while ago. im happy with this team, and my win/loss ratio is about 75%/25% now (it was lower before, and im still counting every game ive ever played on smogon). of course there is room for improvement.

Salamence (F) @ Leftovers ** Sally
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Rock Slide

Suicune @ Leftovers ** Gust
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 236 HP / 212 Def / 4 Spd / 56 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Roar
- Surf

Shedinja @ Lum Berry ** Shell
Trait: Wonder Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Confuse Ray
- Shadow Ball
- Silver Wind
- Swords Dance

Ludicolo (M) @ Leftovers ** Ariba
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 160 Def / 96 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Leech Seed
- Rain Dance
- Surf

Snorlax (M) @ Leftovers ** Cuddles
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Rest
- Return
- Shadow Ball

Starmie @ Leftovers ** Jewel
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt

my own comments:

1) salamence needs a lot of care looking after. obviously ice beam will completely nail him. but he's there for his attack power as well as intimidate. i usually risk rockslide against lapras in case of the flinch, which seems to happen fairly often when you need it.

2) shedinja is mainly there to force some switch outs. most notably people who use kyogre. i used to have protect so i could see what moves they had, but i went for confuse ray since if youre doing things right, you shouldnt switch it into something that can kill it. then you get a switch to lay confusion on the next pokemon. spikes and sandstream obviously finish it off. so i have rapid spin on starmie, and raindance on ludicolo.

the rest is fairly standard as far as im aware. i would love to hear some comments. i realise there is a notable absence of a fighting move, as well as grass.

I'd suggest to give Salamence more meat. People don't like when a Mence can shrug off physical attacks and Dance up. Adamant Nature and Max HP. Focus the rest of the Evs into Def with few in Attack. DD will boost the speed and Atk and Salamence can pack punches after just one.

Suicune @ Leftovers ** Gust
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 236 HP / 212 Def / 4 Spd / 56 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Roar
- Surf

Standard

Shedinja @ Lum Berry ** Shell
Trait: Wonder Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Confuse Ray
- Shadow Ball
- Silver Wind
- Swords Dance

Protect > Confuse Ray. That will help you see what pokemon can actually harm Sheddy. Tyranitar and Spikes are all over this pokemon though.

Ludicolo (M) @ Leftovers ** Ariba
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 160 Def / 96 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Leech Seed
- Rain Dance
- Surf

Rain Dance is a waste because you'd have to kick it in every time it comes out. Synthesis/Substitute > Rain Dance. Calm Nature and put more Evs into HP and Sp.Def with the remaining in Sp.Atk and Speed.

Snorlax (M) @ Leftovers ** Cuddles
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Rest
- Return
- Shadow Ball

Standard. Tyranitar likes to set up on this. Earthquake could fix that but it is up to you. You'll want something around these stats: 512 HP, 200 Def, 315 Sp.Def. With a Careful Nature. Play with your Evs a bit.

Starmie @ Leftovers ** Jewel
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt

Recover > Thunder Wave. This thing is crazy fast anyway and your team really doesn't need the paralysis support

my own comments:

1) salamence needs a lot of care looking after. obviously ice beam will completely nail him. but he's there for his attack power as well as intimidate. i usually risk rockslide against lapras in case of the flinch, which seems to happen fairly often when you need it.

I suggest that you have Starmie as the starter. Especially because it forces their Salamence to leave while something takes the hit.

Welcome to psypokes, deadly devon. Here's how it works. You need to post your actual team.

I will give you some pointers, as per your team

VHPSA's (Very High Powered Special Attacks) Suck. Hydro Pump has a mere 5pp, and only 70% accuracy. Surf, on the other hand, has 100% accuracy, and 15 pp. And, it hits 2 opponents.

Some items are pretty much completely useless. Quick Claw is a good example. It only works when you have the same speed stat as your opponent, and only kicks in 25% of the time.

Now the roles- Ninjask is an exceelnt passer.
Know what each team needs - A special sweeper, a physcial sweeper, a special wall, a physical wall, and the rest are optional (ie, mixed sweepers, toxi-tanks, baton passers, psdeudo passers, clerics/healers, spikers, spinners, hazers, pseudo hazers). From what i see on your team, you have 3 special sweepers, 2 physical sweepers, and a toxi-tank.

Know the moves: Overheat sucks! especially on physical sweepers like houndoom.

Spread your EVs. By giving starmie a few Defense EVs, it may survive Crunch, T-bolt, or Shadow Ball.

DVs (only for special sweepers) - I saw this on Gamefaqs. If your special sweeper has absolutely no physical moves, move the Attack DVs down to 0 if no Hidden power, 2 if the Hidden Power requires 30 Attack DVs, or 3 if it requires 31 Attack DVs.

Now that I'm finished with my speech, REPOST YOUR TEAM!!

About Hydro Pump + Thunder:

Over 10 attacks:

Hydro Pump will miss 3 times, but the other 7 will do 840 base.
Surf will not miss, and will do 950 base.
Surf has more PP than Hydro Pump

Therefore, surf is USUALLY better than hydro pump. Like Fire Blast, if the hydo makes the difference between 2HKO and 1HK0, it is worth it.

Thunder is a different kettle of fish.

Over 10 attacks, it will paralze three times! Just once for bolt.
The miss ratio as in hydro pump gives it 840 base.
Bolt will do 950 base like surf.

If your sweeper can handle the misses, is the 11 less base damage per move worth the 1 in 3 paralze?

How does shedinja get swords dance?

Agreed on rest.

Salamence (F) @ Leftovers ** Sally
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Flying]

Trait: Pressure
EVs: 236 HP / 212 Def / 4 Spd / 56 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Roar
- Surf
Give Ice Beam over Roar, or give a status-inflicting attack over Rest.

Shedinja @ Lum Berry ** Shell
Trait: Wonder Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Confuse Ray
- Shadow Ball
- Silver Wind
- Swords Dance
I prefer Fury Swipes instead of Swords Dance.

Ludicolo (M) @ Leftovers ** Ariba
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 160 Def / 96 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Leech Seed
- Rain Dance
- Surf
Cool. I like your Ludicolo.

Snorlax (M) @ Leftovers ** Cuddles
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

Put Toxic instead of Curse.

Starmie @ Leftovers ** Jewel
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt

Put Psychic over RSpin. It's a bad idea. Your Starmie looks like special one, so no need for RSpin.

I just installed Netbattle today and made a really bad team... Suggestions?

Double Battle Team

Slaking @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 Atk, 128 Def, 128 SpDef
Adamant
-Bulk Up
-Amnesia
-Return
-Slack Off / Rest (Which one?)

(Maybe another Pkmn...)>> Alakazam @ Lum Berry
EVs: 252 Speed, (Help with the other EVs...)
Timid
-Skill Swap
-Reflect
-Knock Off
-Light Screen

Ninjask @ Focus Band
EVs: 52 Speed, 229 Defense, 229 Special Defense
Careful
-Baton Pass
-Swords Dance
-Protect
-Aerial Ace

Metagross @ Chesto Berry
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Atk, 4 HP
Adamant
-Meteor Mash
-Psych Up
-Rest
-Shadow Ball

Miltank @ Chesto Berry
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Jolly
-Return
-Shadow Ball
-Heal Bell
-Psych Up

For the sixth Pokemon, I *think* I need one with high Defense and Special Defense and a move that increases Attack and Speed in case Slaking dies...

---

Strategy: Slaking uses Amnesia/Bulk Up accordingly to the situation and Slack Off when necessary. On the first turn, Alakazam Skill Swaps with Slaking and dies (If it survives for two more turns, I'll Skill Swap again with the opponent's Pokemon). Then I'll send out Ninjask. Protect, Swords Dance, and Protect. If it dies when it does Swords Dance, I'll send out either Miltank or Metagross and use Psych Up on Slaking, who was boosting its stats for the past five turns. Then I'll start killing everything...

But if Slaking dies, I need an alternative pokemon that can raise its Attack and Speed without dying.

---

Thanks.

If you want, put AAce to do some damage, don't forget, a move that never misses + gains STAB is good.

Heracross @ Salac Berry
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Adamant Nature
-Megahorn
-Rock Slide
-Endure
-Reversal
Endure + Reversal combo is always good. Put Swords Dance or Bulk Up instead of Rock Slide to do heavy damage. Remember, supporting moves on non-00ber PKMN is always good.

Latios @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 Spd, 252 SpAtk, 4 HP
Modest Nature
-Calm Mind
-Ice Beam
-Psychic
-Recover
No need to lefties. Recover is there to recover your HP

Blissey @ Leftovers (Natural Cure)
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpDef
Calm Nature
-Double Team
-Seismic Toss
-Toxic
-Rest
Attach ChestoBerry to it, or even better, Softboiled. Also, Subsitute>Double Team so you can take advantage of Softboiled + high HP. The best annoyer ever seen is Blissey in my opinion. A deadly weapon in right hands :D

Metagross @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 Spd, 252 Atk, 4 Def
Adamant Nature
-Explosion
-Earthquake
-Meteor Mash
-Shadow Ball
Nothing to say.

Kingdra @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 SpAtk, 128 Def, 128 SpDef
Modest Nature
-Rain Dance
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Hidden Power [Electric]
Put Kingdra in lead and RDance in the first turn; 3 of your pokemon are weak to fire so that would negate it. If you like annoyers; Octazooka>Surf.

No, I'm not a rater, but this thread seems sort of dead. go with substitute over protect, so that the spikes aren't spun away. Also, spread out the evs a little better. More for the hp, maybe, and less SDef. A pinch berry may do better, too. Ganlon, or Apricot. You may also want to thow in speed evs, for a faster sub.

Heracross @ Salac Berry
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Adamant Nature
-Megahorn
-Rock Slide
-Endure
-Reversal
Excellent. Again, a bit more fairly spread EVs.

Latios @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 Spd, 252 SpAtk, 4 HP
Modest Nature
-Calm Mind
-Ice Beam
-Psychic
-Recover
Soul dew, with a possible Dragon Claw or pseudo pass move > ice beam/psychic.

Blissey @ Leftovers (Natural Cure)
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpDef
Calm Nature
-Double Team
-Seismic Toss
-Toxic
-Rest
Softboiled > Rest. Bold nature is best, as you don't do as much to youself while confused.

Metagross @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 Spd, 252 Atk, 4 Def
Adamant Nature
-Explosion
-Earthquake
-Meteor Mash
-Shadow Ball
Agility > EQ.

Kingdra @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 SpAtk, 128 Def, 128 SpDef
Modest Nature
-Rain Dance
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Hidden Power [Electric]
looks good.
