OK, my long snorlax breeding program has come to an end with this critter:

CUDDLES
nature: brave, ability: thick fat
IVs: 31 hp, 31 atk, 27 def, 27 sp atk, 31 sp def, 25/26 spd.

it has curse, and i intend it to have the obvious curselax set (with rest, body slam, crunch - will think about return also). what i'm slightly unsure about is the EVs. one part of me says to simply maximise HP and sp def, since he can then switch into special attackers and curse to raise his def and atk (the HP helping him with take physical hits). obviously since he cant change his special defense with the curselax set, i want to invest at least something in sp def. but then it would be nice to give him a bit of attack EVs - they will get extra value with the +atk nature, and after a few curses they will really start to be noticed. im not so good with EV spreads that dont just obviously give max speed and attack (eg for a physical sweeper).

so what are peoples thoughts?

EDIT: he was hatched in sinnoh, so i cant give him any moves from the adv gen move tutors (ie no self destruct, ice punch etc)

I am trying to find your hippo solution, but if you can track down the code for me...

i know smogon has good sets and stuff. but what im interested in people's opinions, and a discussion of whats best. eg some people might put a small amount into speed so it can outspeed other curselaxes. or some people might want to give it different EV spreads, or suggest other moves.

and yes i had forgotten about my hippo. while i was breeding impish hippo's (intending stealth rock, slack off, earthquake, roar) i hatched an adamant one with amazing stats. and i realised i should have been giving them curse as an egg move. anyway, im interested to know if someone who is competent with the use of action replay can put the move curse on it (of course only for use in the battle tower etc, since i am very opposed to cheating to give yourself an edge in a battle against another person).

but yeah, if anyone can give me their thoughts on an EV spread for my curselax i would appreciate it a lot. i know heaps of you guys are really knowledgeable, and i totally respect your opinions!

i think you need some EVs on Special Defense so you can survive SpecsMence Draco Meteor...
Much on HP and the rest you can Split Between Attack and Defense...
What is the Ability?

Way to dangerous in this metagame to do Adv Curselax.

Here are other better options:

Careful | 240 HP, 32 Def, 236 SpDef
~Rest
~Sleep Talk
~Crunch/Shadow Claw/Earthquake
~Body Slam/Return


I don't care what Smogon says - this is better, as Rest + Sleep Talk is essentially a one-turn recovery move.
Fire Blast is pathetic on base 65, you'll hit them better with Earthquake or Return. Skarmory roosts now, and Snorlax underspeeds it - which means Earthquake = Super Effective.

A pretty good special wall, IMO, but still - I don't like the fact that it lacks an instant heal move - not even wish

yeah, i guess its a pity - he really should have got slack off. i mean thats just so obvious!

bushin - its ability is thick fat - i was using the box trick, and wasnt even hatching any with immunity. but towards the start of the breeding chain, i was hatching anything to see what IVs i could get for parents, and i got a brave/immunity with 31/18/31/X/31/31. cant remember the sp atk, and couldnt believe the rest - ive never seen four 31's before (although obviously the speed sucks!) but with perfect defenses, i can probably use it as a parent of many a tank like rhyperior hehehe

anyway, i guess my situation is that i have this snorlax which i am going to use. i think youre probably right PL that a +def nature would have been better. im too worried about gengar to have normal+ground as the only attacks. im not a super competetive battler - i mainly battle with a couple of friends, and the in battle tower. the main reason i went to the effort of breeding a super-IV monster is because i love snorlax's so much.

thanks for suggestions so far. PL - can you tell me the logic behind the exact EV spread you gave? im not so good at non-obvious EV spreads (ie almost anything other than max atk+spd). is it some kind of ideal balance between def and sp def? in that case, how could i work out the ideal spread for this one, given its nature and IVs?

I think you should go with spec def and hp all the way. Use it as a wall/annoyer. use icepunch and i reccomend leftovers. Use counfusing, paralyzing and freezing attacks. I dont think you'll have to stress much on it being a sweeper. hoped i helped

maybe just to clarify a couple of things. 1) it was hatched in diamond, so i dont have access to emerald move tutor moves. 2) im settled on the moves curse, rest, body slam (or return), crunch.

so im really after suggestions from you experts regarding EV spreads. i really plan on being able to bring it in on special sweepers, so im kinda leaning towards max HP+SD, but im very open to suggestions from people who know more than me! and bushin - i think youre right about the specs mence thing. thats probably one of the biggest special attacks anything should ever have to survive! (except specs hyperbeam from a souped up porygonZ lol )

EDIT: i just did an online hidden power test. depending on the true nature of its speed IV (which couldnt be determined at level 100) its hidden power is either DARK 64 (if its speed is 25) or ICE 70 - what a waste that would be! HP ice 70 on a curselax
