Anywho, I prefer using a thesaurus for nicknames. It works well.

I use mine from scripture and myths. For example, I called my Dragonite Hermes. In the first movie, he was a messanger for Mewtwo, and I thought that this would be quite cool.

Jolteon: Raiju (the legendary 6 tailed beast in japanese culture who was a dog/wolf of sorts with the power over lightning... said to even be the figure jolteon was based off of)

Gardevoir: Psychick (my gardevoir will be a female and I couldn't resist the pun XD because it's basicly psychic with a "k" added... it ought to be pronounced as the two seperate words)

Garchomp: Tyrant (a tribute to him resembling a tyranosaurus (as well as a shark... I know))

Almost all my nicknames are references. For Diamond, I chose the water pokemon (forgot what its called), evolved it to 3rd form, and renamed it to 'Poseidon' (he has three golden spikes on top of head, very appropriate). If I find a pokemon that I find to be positively invulnerable, or almost so, I'll name it 'Apocalypse'. Something else, Cataclysm. Or Ragnarok. I'm a sucker for end-of-the-world-like names.

I hate how Pokemon Company always makes the names all capitalized - I got bored of it, so every pokemon I really use a lot is renamed to be properly capitalized, at least.

I name my pokemon After Gems and minerals.
