So I was wondering what would happen if some HMs had secondary effects... If it would make them seem a little less generally useless. I was thinking some effects like
Cut-- Treated as a normal type attack, but super effective against Grass types
Strength-- Stronger against heavier opponents?
Rock Smash-- May lower defense
Defog-- Enemy can not use Haze or Mist for 2-5 turns
Surf-- Stays as is cuz its BEAST
Flash-- Decreases foes accuracy AND evasiveness
Thoughts?

This defies the laws of pokemon, but plausible.

With all them newfangled innovations in BW I wouldn't be surprised if they did this kind of stuff. I like these ideas.

I think that is an excellent idea. It would be a little complicated.

Lol This actually does make sense to me, such as how rock smash is super effective against rock(aside from being a fighting move anyway, it's ironic). I also think Surf SHOULD effect dig. It makes no sense to me that a huge wave of water doesn't flood a hole in the ground it definitely would realistically.

In Pokemon Blue I always thought Cut actually DID do more damage to grass types.
It always seemed to anyway.
Then again, I thought holding the A button did more damage on any attack...

Plus you can use cut out of battle to cut through grass as well as trees(:

Moves like ThunderBolt should hit through Fly for twice the damage or something.

I like the idea of cut and surf, those make sense. As for the rest, what would water fall do? Launch the opponet into the air? what about fly, dive and all other hms? This is a great idea, but some of the hms dont need secondary effects OR the secondary effects would make no sense.

Well Fly already kinda does... The first turn dodges almost all attacks, and then attacks on the second turn. And doesn't Waterfall have a chance to cause flinching? If it doesn't, then IF it had an effect, that would probably be it.
