Well, I've encountered Mesprit twice and got it down to red, but the last time I threw Timer Balls at it after about 30 turns, it broke free and I tried Ultra Balls. This is what I'm using against Mesprit.
@ --- (Level 66)
- Mean Look
- Poison Fang
- Haze
- Air Slash
And I have;
x25 Ultra Balls
x48 Dusk Balls
x1 Master Ball (and don't say use this)
x37 Timer Balls
x8 Quick Balls
If anyone could help me with a good move set for Golbat to effectively catch Mesprit or give me tips, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

ya uz da masta bal
Or, you could do the educated thing and get a poke with mean look and baton pass, pass the mean look to a poke with false swipe and get it to 1 HP. Then either use T-Wave or pass again to another poke with T-Wave... and it should be easy.

I caught my the hard way. Anyways, have a friend trade you a Wobbuffet( I have some Wobbuffet clones, if ya want one) and Shadow Tag will block them, and with the big HP balloon Wobbuffet is, they shouldn't be able to bring down Wobbuffet before they are caught. Or, battle it in glitch city, where all battles are double, and skill swap Shadow Tag.

i doubt that he'll do a major glitch just to catch mesprit.
i eventually caught him with a clonde masterball from emerald, but got it down to one hp before that. O_o

You aren't even going to tell me Sinnoh glitch city doesn't exist? Oh, and NOBODY say it doesn't exist; in fact, heres how.
Go to lake Valor. Surf, and while your getting off, pause and go to pokemon before your character
actually touches the ground. Fly to some place where you couldn't go underground.
Now, when you get there, the animation will finish and you'll be stuck in the pokemon center.
Now use the Explorer kit, it'll work now. You'll be in a glitchy void, come back up to find yourself
in glitch city.

your golbats moveset is as good as it will get for now actually, since all you need to do is use mean look (since its health is low enough to catch). but since mesprits attacks are psychic type, it will hurt you each time it attacks you, meaning you will have to waste time healing yourself. i would suggest using an umbreon with mean look instead. it can also baton pass to something else which could paralyze it.
or if you have a smeargle, you could use:
mean look
spore
false swipe (if its HP isnt quite down to exactly 1)
and something else, maybe double team.

I'm not going to go through the painstaking process of cloning or doing the glitch city of Sinnoh thing just to get Mesprit. And anyways, thanks for the answers although I have no caught him yet (due to my lack of effort right now), lol.

If he wanted to use his masterball he wouldn't had made this thread.

This is how I caught
1. I paralyzed it and it ran away
2. I encountered it again and used a move to prevent escaping
3. I got its HP down real low
4. Threw Ultra Balls at it until it stayed inside one
5. I had a !!!!
