Quote: A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.
The 34-year-old employee, a temporary maintenance worker, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.
Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

That story would be absolutely hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that a real person died.

How could you not realise you were stepping on someone? Especially the people at the front.

This is how I see it:
Quote: Mom: GOTTA GET THOSE DEALS!
Child: Mommy, you're stepping on someone!
Mom: WHO CARES! HE'LL LIVE! GOTTA GET ONE OF THOSE 45 BAGS OF !
That is not to be rude, but most people are worried about not getting those deals.
Charge every who was in the store with murder.

so those little children screaming that their parents were stepping on someone you mentioned get charged, too? and what about people who weren't even directly involved? witnesses that didn't actually trample on him, maybe they were just outside the entrance and didn't get in until after it happened? employees?
please don't get a job in law enforcement.

I can't believe people could do that kind of thing. Trample a guy to death for discount Christmas shopping? Christmas is supposed to be about love and peace anyway, not presents. And when they were asked to leave, they just complained that they were in line for hours, and kept buying stuff. Did anyone even feel guilty that they killed a guy? This kind of stuff just makes me want to leave America and never come back.

They really DO deserve to go to jail, the shoppers. Killing a man, breaking down doors, destroying barricades cannot be forgotten by saying you were in line for a few hours. From what has been seen, none were upset or against it.

This doesn't surprise me at all....
course I might just be really cynical, but this just shows the greed of the american people...
Lol kurusu, you tell that to the big companies.
Of course, if you think about it logically, if there is A HUGE mass of people packed together very tightly, it is very hard to see where you are going/ decide where you are going.
2000 people is a lot of people. That's a lot of pushing and shoving by default.
The fact that they took the doors off the hinges and trampled officers trying to do CPR is worrisome though....
Blargh watever. humans are icky.

Doesn't this happen every year?
It isn't really the Christmas season until someone gets trampled to death in the name of BIG SAVINGS.

Looting is not uncommon around here, but I've never seen such thing happening. It's just... terrible. I can't imagine you could actually come to that point. I mean, read the article carefully and think about it. Jesus Christ.
I agree with gq: this event could easily be used to satirize the american economy, if it weren't for the fact that a person actually died. I can totaly imagine the joke, but I would never think it could turn real.
For a developed, civilized country, you appeared rather barbarian. Consumerism is definetly the base of your economy. And mentality. No arguing there.
I'm not blaming the americans for that kind of behaviour, though. I'm sure it happens in many places, just in different situations. When the Backstreet Boys first came to Rio... Ugh. Nevermind.
Humans are indeed a terrible species.

SALE!!!!!
This is what happens when you allow animals to riot in front of WalMart. Personally, I think WalMart employees should have snuck out the back of the store, with guns, and gone to about 50 feet away fromt he store entrance, and fire towards the sky. Then, tell them to make a neat and orderly line. If they fail to do so, throw off tear gas.

How about, instead of firing weapons and using tear gas, we spread out the Black Friday sales over the course of a couple of weeks? 9_9

Oh please. Why does everyone always seem to portray all americans in such negetive ways. It might have happened in America, but to be honest, it could have happened anywhere. The reason it probably did happen in America is because the population there is much higher than in places like Britain.
This story kinda does suck out all your faith in humanity though.

Well... American economics is so consumption-based that the model encourages this sort of thing when taken to an extreme. And thanks to pro-business, anti-consumer conservatives, it's been taken to an extreme.

Oh right. Just because a bunch of dumba??es fail to make a line, do something like those customers did, something that can cause serious injury even death.
