Hi friends. I absolutely hate making news updates but since this'll probably be on our front page until the end of the time, here's a brief recap of all the things we've added or updated in the Psydex and Psylab in the last six months:
-Let's start with the obvious: the Psydex has been updated for Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, Sword and Shield, Legends Arceus, and Scarlet and Violet, including all of the new Pokemon, their regional and alternate forms, names in many different languages, level-up moves, TM moves, base stat changes, and Picdex sprites and models.
-Similarly, the Tech Dex and Ability descriptions have been revised for a lot of older moves and abilities, and any newer ones since Ultra Sun and Moon (including Z-Moves, Max Moves and G-Max Moves) have been added.
-Gen 8 and 9 Pokemon and move Amnesia Attacks have been added. The all 1025 Pokemon Amnesia Attack was also redesigned to be sprite based, in an effort to fit as many answers on the screen as possible.
-Updated Psylab page: the Types Explanation page was updated for first time since Gen 4 to include all changes newer games have added, including the Fairy-type, Terrains, Terastallization, and more. Older mechanics like Gen 1 secondary effects and glitches, weather, entry hazards, the ???-type, and more were also expanded.
-Similarly, we've added a new Type Combination Chart that lets you see all of the different dual type combinations that exist at a glance. (Great to study for Pokedoku!) Did you know that there are only 9 dual type combinations that have yet to be used in the franchise?
-Updated Psylab page: the Critical Hits guide was updated for the first time since Gen 5, as Critical Hit mechanics were overhauled pretty massively in the very next set of the games, and provides examples of Critical Hit stages work in Gen 1, Gens 2-5, and Gens 6-present. I revised the old "domain" terminology to use "stages" like all of the other stat changes do.
-Updated Psylab page: the guide to Attack Priority was also revised for the first time since Diamond and Pearl. This table includes all of the current attack priorities and outlines moves that have changed priority brackets over the generations. More modern abilities that affect attack priority are also covered.
-Updated Psylab page: the guide on Status Effects was updated for the first time since Gen 5. This includes outlining all of the new moves and abilities that cause permanent and temporary status effects, and touches on the new status effects in Legends Arceus as well.
-New Psylab page: Generational Gimmicks. This page goes over the mechanics that originate in the newer Generations of Pokemon and generally stick around only for one Generation before being retired. These include regional forms (and paradoxes and convergent species), Mega Evolutions, Z-Moves, Dynamax and Gigantamax, and Terastallization.
-Update Psylab page: the guide on Happiness was updated for the first time since Generation 4. This expansion included listing out all of the Happiness Raters across the various games, listing out all the people who groom your Pokemon and snacks you can feed them, and bringing the table listing base happiness up to date. More clarification was provided for Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow as well.
-New Psylab page: Pokemon Forms. This extensive guide goes over all of the Pokemon that have alternate forms throughout the series, including going over the ways to change through a Pokemon's forms and highlighting the differences between the forms.
-Updated Psylab page: the guide on Breeding was updated for the first time since Generation 4. This includes going over where every Pokemon Day Care is found, changes to moveset, stats and ability inheritance throughout the early generations, the changes to some Egg Groups in Generation 8, and which forms Pokemon will hatch as when they have multiple forms.
-Updated Psylab page: the Stats Guide was updated for the first time since Gen 4. This was a fairly extensive expansion, covering all the moves, abilities and items that cause stat increases and decreases.
-New Psylab page: Changes Across Generations was created to go in-depth on the stuff that changes from game to game, including Pokemon evolution methods, where magnetic fields, Icy Rocks and Moss Rocks are located, what times of the day each game considers to be day/night, and various adjustments over the years to moves, base stats and abilities.
-The Card Dex and TCG section has been updated with all the new sets and cards released since the last time I updated them in 2018. Card scans are a much more monumental task, but they have all been scanned and they'll come... eventually, after I go through the lengthy journey of processing the scans.
Whenever an update is added, I've generally tried to post it on our new Bluesky account (because Twitter is garbage)!
