POKEMON RED AND BLUE WALKTHROUGH

Seafoam Islands

Seafoam Islands can be accessed by surfing south then west of Fuchsia City, or by surfing east of Cinnabar Island. When you visit, you'll want to bring along someone with Surf and Strength, and some Ultra Balls too. The Seafoam Island Pokemon and their frequency vary according to which floor you are on. The objective here is to push a series of boulders to the lowest floor of the island to stop the rapids. This way, you can safely use Surf to reach places and platforms that were previously inaccessible.

From the entrance, head north west and push the boulder down the hole. Then climb onto the raised ledge (Don't go down that ladder yet) and head all the way east and push the boulder down the hole there as well. Follow it down to the next level. Keep pushing it into the hole and following it down until you reach the lowest level. You'll automatically be carried away by the rapids to a new room. Head east first and land on the small patch of ground there. Examine the tile to receive a hidden Ultra Ball. Head to the platform to the north and then head west and down to the ladder there. Climb up to the next level.

From the ladder on the new level, circle round onto the ledge and head east and south. You should be on the ground, at the southern-most point of the level. There's a little puzzle here, the aim is to push two of the four boulders into the black holes. The solution is shown here:

The circled rock contains a hidden Max Elixer. Follow the rocks down and you'll be in the current of water that you couldn't access before. Head north to the lone island and examine the Pokemon there. You'll be attacked by Articuno, the legendary bird of Ice.

Articuno

Articuno, an Ice Flying type. Like Moltres, it has a horrible 4x weakness to Rock attacks, but with the ability to learn some good moves that can take out Rock types, and have the Special and the Speed to do it, Articuno can cause some serious trouble on the enemy ranks. It has good Defense and very good Special, but only above-average Attack and Speed. Common moves on Articuno are Reflect, Blizzard/Ice Beam, Bubblebeam and Substitute.

Articuno is at level 50, and knows Ice Beam and Peck. When you've caught it, return to the floor above (the one with the four boulder puzzle) and use the ladder to the south of where you've come up.

From here, head up onto the ledge and use the ladder to the north-east. In the next room, circle round right and push the boulder into the hole. (You should've pushed this boulder down from the ground level when you first entered). Follow the boulder down, and push it into the hole again. Follow it down, and you'll be on a stretch of water where the rapids have been blocked off and you're free to Surf. Head right (You've already been to the left) and keep climbing the ladders until you're out of the cave.

The Power Plant can be accessed by heading east of Cerulean City. You'll eventually reach the Pokemon Center on Route 10 outside Rock Tunnel - head north until you can use Surf, and follow the narrow passage down past the Pokemon Center.

The Item Balls circled in Red are in fact Voltorb. The Item Balls circled in Blue are Electrode. After entering, the first item ball on your right is a Carbos. Head up and around again - the item in the lower room is TM33 - Reflect. There's also TM25 - Thunder in the bottom right room. The two items in the top right room are a Rare Candy and an HP Up. There's a hidden PP Up if you examine the tile circled in Green. Follow the path around and you'll see a Pokemon. Save your game first, then examine it and you'll be attacked by Zapdos, the legendary bird of Lightning.

Zapdos

Zapdos, the only Electric/Flying type in the game - a good combo which rids Electric Pokemon of its only weakness, Ground. However, the dual-flying type introduces an Ice and Rock weakness that is difficult to deal with. Zapdos has excellent Special, good Attack and Speed, and above average Defense. It doesn't have a wide variety of moves, but common attacks seen on Zapdos are Drill Peck, Thunderbolt, Reflect, Substitute and Thunder Wave.

It's at level 50, and knows Thundershock and Drill Peck. Put it to sleep (or freeze it if you're feeling lucky) and proceed to whittle away its HP before using an Ultra Ball to catch it. The exit is to the left.

Cerulean Cave

This is the final dungeon of the game, and it is only accessible after you've beaten the Elite Four. The Pokemon here are around lv50 and difficult to beat - they do however, give out lots of EXP, so it is a good place to level up. The Cerulean Cave can be accessed by heading north of Cerulean City onto Nugget Bridge. When you get to the end of the bridge, surf down the canal to the left, and you'll eventually reach a cave entrance.

Like Seafoam Island, the Pokemon and their frequency vary with the level you are on. You'll want to bring along a Super Rod to catch some good water Pokemon, and also the Master Ball, as you'll be given the chance to capture the most difficult Pokemon to catch in the game, Mewtwo.

The basement of the Cerulean Cave, where the rarest Pokemon dwell. The items here are: (G) Max Revive and (H) Ultra Ball. Use the map and navigate to the Pokemon (I). Examine it, and you'll be attacked by Mewtwo, the most powerful Psychic Pokemon ever.

Mewtwo

Mewtwo, a pure Psychic Pokemon. With the highest Special stat in the game, excellent speed, attack, defense and HP, and the ability to learn Psychic, Mewtwo really deals out the damage with its same type attack bonus (STAB). Not only that, it can learn a wide range of good elemental and physical moves, not to mention the best recovery move in the game, making it extremely difficult to defeat. Most people dislike the use of Mewtwo due to its severe lack of weaknesses in Red, Blue and Yellow.

Mewtwo is at level 70, and knows Psychic, Recover, Swift and Barrier. Since is this the highest leveled wild Pokemon in the game, you might as well use your Master Ball. But if you don't have one, here's a way to do it. Bring in someone with high Special and the ability to learn a Sleep Move. Exeggutor and Chansey are good examples. Immediately start the battle by putting Mewtwo to sleep, then attack away until its HP is low enough. Begin barraging it with Ultra Balls, putting it back to sleep if need be.
