POKEMON YELLOW SURFING PIKACHU GUIDE
South of Fuchsia City lives "Dude", an extraordinary trainer whose Pikachu knows Surf. Aside from Gameshark and other cheating devices, you can only get Surf on a Pikachu through Pokemon Stadium 1. Regardless of how your Pikachu got Surf, talk to Dude and answer yes to start the mini-game, Pikachu's Beach!

The playing screen is simple; there's the big area where you control Pikachu and where waves appear, and underneath that is a timer bar and an HP counter. The timer shows you how far you are from the shore. When you reach land, the mini-game is over. Your HP counter is a measure of your endurance through the game - when it reaches zero, the game is over and you won't get a score.
The object of the game is to gain the highest possible score. To do this, you'll need to perform flips on the waves, and furthermore, you'll have to avoid falling into the water.
There are two ways to earn points. Firstly, when Pikachu is propelled into the air by a passing wave, hit [Right] on the control pad and hold it down until it has made a full 360 degree flip. If you're brave enough, continue holding [Right] to complete a second flip, or switch directions by hitting [Left] in mid air. Listen for the chime that signals when you've completed a flip.
- A single flip gives you 50 points
- A double flip in the same direction gives you 150 points
- A double flip in opposite directions gives you 180 points

On landing, you'll have the align yourself with the surface so that you won't drop into the water. In other words, try to land flat when you're falling onto the water, or tilted if you're falling onto another wave. If you fall into the water, you'll waste precious time, and you'll also have some HP taken off. Usually you'll have enough HP to last you the entire game, but if you drop too many times, you'll reach zero before you know it.
The second part to the score is your Hit Points. This is taken straight from the HP Counter and added to the points you earned by doing flips.
Of course, there's the entertainment value you get from playing this mini-game. If that isn't enough for you, you can examine the machine in the top-right corner of Dude's house and print out a certificate on your GB Printer. And that's all there is to Surfing Pikachu's Mini-Game.
