POKEMON RANGER WALKTHOUGH

Special Mission 1: Search the Safra Sea!

After you've just beaten the game, you'll be back in Ringtown's base to receive a very important new ability. Now you can take friend Pokemon out of their normal habitats, which means that you take friend Pokemon pretty much anywhere and keep them with you. This is very significant because you can now clear a lot more obstacles that blocked your path earlier, like the two blocks of ice in Panula Cave, for example.

Prof. Hastings will come in and present you with a new styler function that he just made. It keeps your records of things from steps walked and Pokemon captured to Capture Challenge high scores. He wants you to field test this function and see him in his Fall City lab when you're done. This doesn't actually require you to do anything, but it is essential to start the special mission. So go to the lab and do some talking.

After that's over, you'll be asked to go to Fall City's base, and Joel has a mission for you. The Safra Sea has been disrupted, and the native Pokemon have been upset. You'll have to go to the port and check it out. Now you get to start the mission.

Upon arriving at the port, you'll be greeted by a sailor that wants you to take care of the lighthouse first, so go in the basement and check it out. There are four Staryu down there, and you'll have to capture them all to calm them. Not too long after you get out, you'll hear a cry for help from the tourist center. Go see what's wrong, and there are four Krabby to deal with this time. You'll have to battle them all at once, too. And once you get out of there, you'll be greeted by another scream. Go to the pier, and four Carvanha will be waiting for you. Again, capture them all to solve that problem.

Aria will gaze out to sea and notice something unusual; there are whirlpools out there. She'll ask you to check them out with Lapras, so you'll have to do it. As you go over there, a huge whirlpool will form and suck you in. It's not that bad underwater though, you get to see Kyogre and recognize that it has wounds from Groudon. You have to battle it to calm it down. It's really easy if you use Discharge after it's done attacking, so take advantage of this opportunity if you need it.

When you get back, Aria will greet you and ask all about the mission. You'll both go back to base to talk it over with Joel. He'll be astonished that it was Kyogre, but that doesn't matter much. You're done the mission.

Special Mission 2: Summerland Rescue Duo!

This next extra mission can be triggered by going to see Spenser at the Ringtown base. He'll ask you if you're tired, and you'll have to say "yes" if you want to do the mission. If you say no, that's okay because you can just talk to him again. He'll let you go on a vacation to Summerland, and you'll be whisked away by the Dragonite Bus. Cameron will greet you with some bad news though. Lunick/Solana hasn't reported back to base for a while since he left for the Jungle Relic. Cameron will ask you to go find him/her and check out what's causing the earthquakes on the way. Head out the door to start.

Now you're at the Jungle Relic, and the first thing to do is go over to the fourth challenge to discover Minun and a few fallen rocks. Capture the Rhydon nearby to clear the rocks and release your friend. Then take advantage of your opportunity and capture the two Poliwrath from the room where Lunick/Solana came. Go back to where you saw a pool of lava earlier and use Poliwrath to get by.

Go straight for a bit until you notice a Go-Rock grunt. Although it's only him, you still have to put him back out of business. He has two Metang to deal with, so capture them to get by. Go up those stairs and continue on. Eventually, you'll come to the stairs before where you battled Clyde the first time. Instead of going up there, keep going straight and go through the next path. Again, keep going until you come to a hole in the ground. Fall through and you'll see a door open. Go in to meet Groudon.

Apparently, it's in pain, so you'll have to try capturing it to help it. To do so, use Poliwrath's Assist when it's not attacking. You then get to release Groudon and go back for a briefing with Cameron. Do some talking and the mission's over.

Special Mission 3: The Temple's Sinister Shadows?

The last mission to do in gameplay can be initialized by going to Wintown and talking with Elita. She'll ask you if you want to accept a mission, so accept it and you'll be lead inside the base for details. According to a rumor, there are some suspicious people around the Fiore Temple. You need to go over with Chris and check out what's going on. Exit the door to start the mission.

When you arrive, you'll see that the door's open, so enter, and you'll see the first of the suspicious men. He'll battle you with three Ekans, so capture them and he'll run off with a hint about who he is. If you make your way to the top of the area, you'll find the door blocked again. This time, it requires a Ralts, Kirlia and Gardevoir to pass, so try to capture them as you head up. Ralts is near the bottom on the pathway up, Kirlia is two ledges under the stairway into the temple, and Gardevoir is above the stairway. Go down the stairway while you're at it and capture a few Pokemon with good Assists, like Medicham, Gengar or Glalie. Once you get the Pokemon, put them on the pedestals and go through the door.

Go up the pyramid to discover another person. He has a Solrock and Swellow, but before you capture them from him, he'll reveal the identity of his group, the Go-Rock Squad. Go up the pyramid some more and you'll meet another grunt. This one has two Donphan and a Houndoom. Capture them, and if you need help, focus on the Houndoom first. Go on further and you'll discover what the Go-Rock Squad is trying to get their hands on, Rayquaza. They've attempted to capture it but unsuccessfully. Instead, they'll leave and Chris will do some talking.

Now you get to calm down Rayquaza by capturing it. If you captured a Gengar or Glalie earlier, use it. Medicham can also help. An easy way to capture it is while it's attacking with energy balls. Loop it once or twice between each ball, and this can be put to more use with Medicham. Once you capture it, Chris will do some more talking and you'll head back to base. Elita will ask about what happened you're done the mission.
