POKEMON RANGER WALKTHOUGH
The Beginning
Upon selecting "New Game", you'll be greeted with all of the necessary background information for starting your journey. Select your gender and proceed.
You are now situated in Fall City's harbor. Once you get control of yourself and feel comfortable with moving around, go check out the Tourist Center, the building, and talk to the receptionist. She won't do anything really important, but talking to her is just one of those things that you need to do to move on. Next, walk outside and go over to a shaking crate. The boy beside will ask you to check it out, and you should do so with the A button or by selecting it with the stylus.
Now, if you are a girl, a Plusle will pop out of the box and scamper away, but if you chose to be a boy, the Pokemon will be a Minun. Follow the Pokemon regardless, and Spenser, the man who wrote the introductory letter to you, should appear. If he doesn't and some lady wants to talk to you instead, go back to the Tourist Center and talk to the receptionist. Either way, he'll greet you, survey your uniform, and give you some information about Fiore.
A commotion ahead interrupts your meeting with Spenser, and you'll both go to check it out. Apparently, the Plusle/Minun you met earlier has run into a Houndoom and upset. As you'll get used to doing later in the game, your objective will be to calm down the Pokemon. In this case, Spenser will give you the Styler, the Ranger's tool for capturing, and demonstrate how to capture a Pokemon, which happens to be the Houndoom. You'll be left to test out capturing on the Plusle/Minun. Capture it, and you'll be given some more general information by Spenser. You will also be certified there and then as an official Ranger, which will also allow you to decide on your name. Do this, talk a little more, and follow Spenser to Ringtown.
In Ringtown, you'll be greeted by a fellow Ringtown Ranger, Lunick or Solana depending on your gender. This person will be commonly appearing throughout the game to help you on missions. Enter the base and meet another fellow Ranger, Murph. After that conversation, you'll be introduced to the base.
Not too long into the meeting, you'll be interrupted again by a man named Larry. He needs help finding his lost Pokemon, and you are assigned the mission as it would be a good start for you. Talk a little more and head out of the base. Go north and exit Ringtown to start the mission.
Rookie Mission: Don't Fear Failure!
Spenser will greet you with a quick explanation of what to do. He'll then ask Larry what Pokemon is needed to be found, but ironically, Larry can't remember what his own Pokemon was. All you need to do is capture the Pokemon in the area, two Chikorita and a Zigzagoon, bring them back to Larry, and he'll tell you that they are not his. After you do this, a Taillow will appear in the area. Go capture that, bring it back to Larry, and he'll suddenly realize that it's his Pokemon.
After the congratulations, you'll then be notified of a couple trees on fire, and being a Ranger, you're allowed to put it out. Do so by watching Spenser demonstrate how to use Field Moves and then apply it yourself. Capture a Mudkip to do so, and you've cleared the mission.
Now you're back at Ringtown's base and introduced to the Ranger duty of patrolling. Exit the base, and you'll be met with that Plusle/Minun causing more trouble with Larry's Taillow. You'll end up trying to calm them by capturing, and do so. And apparently, Plusle/Minun's been feeling lonely, so you oblige to take it on as a partner Pokemon, and that just means that it will stay with you for the rest of your game. And now patrolling is as good as over, so go back to the base if you don't feel like exploring Ringtown.
You'll be greeted once again by Spenser and learn to use your partner's Assist. And in comes the professor of Fiore, Hastings. He'll want to discuss some things with Spenser, so you'll be banished to the top floor to check on Spenser's Fearow. After you return, you'll be assigned your first official mission. All you have to do is escort the professor to Fall City through Krokka Tunnel. Exit Ringtown to start the mission.
Mission 1: Escort the Professor!
And before you even do much, you'll be confronted by a Bellsprout. So capture it and Prof. Hastings will teach you about Poke Assists. After this, continue north until the professor has to teach you about Water Assists with a Mudkip. Continue on and capture a Torchic to the left of the path. Follow the path farther until you an obstacle blocking your path. Use Torchic's Burn to clear it and keep going through the path until you reach another thing blocking the path. Prof. Hastings will mention that there is a need for a more powerful Field Move to remove this one, so backtrack until a Combusken jumps out of the bushes. Use its Burn to get by the log and enter Krokka Tunnel in front of you.
Go through the cave and when you come to fork in the path, choose the northern doorway. Keep going and you'll meet a Dugtrio. More importantly, after the professor goes to meet the Dugtrio it flees, and a few large rocks fall in between the two of you. You should also notice a Paras that falls along with the rocks, so go after it and use its Cut to get by the fence blocking another pathway by the fallen rocks. Follow the path and capture a Poliwag along the way, as you'll want it for later. Eventually, you'll have your first meeting with the Go-Rock Squad, the evil organization of Fiore. They steal the professor's Super Styler prototype, the thing that he was discussing Spenser, and leave. So follow them out of the tunnel.
Outside the tunnel is a Rhydon that the Go-Rock Squad upset. Use that Poliwag's Assist to easily capture the Rhydon. You can then easily enter Fall City. Go over to the base, which is close by, and your mission is complete.
You'll meet Joel, and upon entering the base, he'll promote you to Ranger Rank 2. He'll want to discuss something with Prof. Hastings, so talk to the two other Rangers beside you to make something happen. Aria, a Fall City Ranger, will enter the base and introduce herself. Joel and the professor will return and assign everyone respective missions, including you. Now you get to patrol Fall City.
Mission 2: Fall City Case Log
It won't take long to get some action. When you try to head into the city, you'll be confronted by a lady that wants you to follow her to her apartment. She'll be standing in front of the building, and follow her in to see her problem: a crate is blocking her door. She suggests that you get a Makuhita to move it, and that's exactly what you need to do. Exit the building and go a little ways north to meet a Makuhita. Capture it, bring it back, and take care of the crate. She'll then invite you inside, only to meet a Venonat that she will also ask you to take care of. Capture it and release it to please the lady.
Exit the building and you'll meet your next challenge. Another woman, Teresa, wants you to find her five Skitty for her. She'll wait for you by the base, so go there if you want a hint. Other than following those hints, you can also just get them in any order you like.
Go back into the building where the lady lives. Instead of going back to her room, go straight and up the stairs to the roof of the building. There's a Skitty up there, so capture it. Another Skitty can be found in the farthest northwestern house hiding as a plush. Return those two to Teresa and head south. As you go, capture a Snubbull for its Field Move. There's a Skitty to the left of the fountain, so capture it. Continue along the path to your left and keep going until you reach some trash cans. If you examine them, you should be able to figure out that a Skitty is in the one on the right. Use Snubbull's Field Move on it, and another Skitty should jump out. Capture it and go back to Teresa if you can't fit in more friends. Then continue on back to the fountain but head down the path to the right from it. You should notice a fence with a Skitty behind it and a Meowth. Capture the Meowth and go after the Skitty. Upon following it, you'll meet a suspicious-looking researcher and a Machoke. Skitty will be hiding behind a tree, so capture it and go back to Teresa.
You're not done yet. Your next task will be given to you as you go back to the center of the city. Prof. Hastings' assistant will ask you to follow her to the professor's lab, and there, you'll be asked to find a Staryu, which can be found in the lighthouse's basement, and light up his basement. So go back to where you first started the whole game, where a Snorlax was sleeping. You'll find that it moved and was actually blocking a way into the lighthouse's basement. Go in, capture the Staryu, and return to the professor's lab. Go to the basement (down the stairs), and select Staryu to light it up.
Exit and you'll meet Aria outside. As you talk, you'll hear an angry Machoke by the clock tower. Go over and capture it, which can be done easily with your partner's Discharge, to calm it down. And after that, you're finally done the mission.
So when you get back to base, you'll receive another promotion to Ranger Rank 3. And after a little talking, a civil engineer comes in and requests some help down in the Waterworks of the city. Grimer has taken it over, and your mission is to capture them all. Simply go to the Waterworks to start your next mission.
