Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 confirmed for June 2012 release, Kyurem alternate forms[permalink]

On Pokemon Smash this morning in Japan, Junichi Masuda appeared to announce the upcoming release of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2, leaving us with pictures of alternate forms of Kyurem that the official Japanese Pokemon site has already uploaded, along with a confirmed June 2012 Japanese release date. Based on their appearances, it's reasonable to think that Kyurem combines with Reshiram and Zekrom to become Ice/Fire- and Ice/Electric-type Pokemon.
Because this is the first time that the main series games have ever used a "2" in their titles, could it be that this is a storyline sequel to the original games that still takes place in Unova and primarily features the Unova Pokemon, rather than having a third version that basically takes place at the same time as its original version?
Wow, after the utter waste BW was compared to the previous offering for the DS, they went ahead and made a sequel to BW. How unbelievably pointless. This reeks of laziness.
For those who went to the japanese main site, it says something about 3DS (sorry I don't speak Japanese), so I got worried thinking, "Dang. Is this going to be only on 3DS?" Then I went to the official Jap. Pokemon website and right on its homepage it says "(Japanese text) DS (Japanese Text).
So I think what it is is, that Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 will be on all DS platforms however compatible with 3DS. WOOT!
@JerkZerk Yeah, it just means you can play it on 3DS as well. It's just a stated reminder that your 3DS isn't locked out of playing BW2.
@CasvalRemDeikun: At the very least, it's not any more lazy than the "third version" most people were expecting. Third versions are pretty much just slightly different move/encounter lists and a Battle Frontier. BW2 seems like much more of an advancement than that.
I'm... speechless. Literally, I am without speech. I don't know how to react to this. This is bigger than people realize. This is not just a Grey with the same story tweaked. This is a continuation, i.e., a whole new story featuring the same region, characters, and 'mons, with some odds and ends tweaked. Am I happy? Again, the speech is still without me. I'll have to check back on that. P.S. N is coming back, I hope. TT_TT
Wow, I was NOT expecting this. Heck I think alot of us werent expecting this. My biggest question is this:
Is this a continuation, were you are still the champ, and you have to find "N" (which would mean no gym battles??)
OR
Your still the champ, and you have a flashback to how you became the champ (aka the main story in flashback), and then you have to go around the pokemon world to Find "N" (something like Gold and silver were you can go to all the regions and battle all the gym leaders)?
I guess its still too early to guess about stuff, but this is very tantalizing.
I just hope they make something huge for the Wii U A 3D game with all the regions in it, that would give me enough reason to buy the Wii U We can always dream...
Nah, seagab, I bet those are just for when you possibly PokeTransfer Giratina, Dialga, and Palkia over, since you can't bring items.
Oo, about the game, maybe we will be from another region, like in the first Pokemon Ranger, and travel with friends to stop someone from controlling Kyurem/(depending on the game you have)! So many possibilities! Even if the names suck, the games sound cool, so I bet I'm going to get both. However, it's Black for me first.
I am so confused... but I kinda like GofD's ideas. But wouldn't a Gray/Grey (however you prefer it) Version been better? I know this is something different, but... eh.
Right when i saw the pic of the legendaries, an idea popped into my head. A game where instead of starter pokemon, the player befriends a legendary baby pokemon (preferably something like giratina/raquaza and not a tiny jirachi/celebi) and the legendary grows with the main character and maybe the main character gets a choice of one other pokemon like arcanine/magmar/gyrados/lucario or something, and can't get any other pokemon but has to beat the game with just those 2 companions. I donno just an idea. But only being able to carry 2 pokemon and not six would be way different than the regular games. I just thought it'd be cooler to get a legendary at the beggining of the game instead of when you practically beat it. Oh yeah, does anyone know when the next pokemon mystery dungeon games series will come out? Really itching for one of those :(
@Ghost Writer Ya this has to be one of the biggest things to ever happen to the series of Pokemon RPG's. Never has another game made sequel (excluding console games) of Pokemon.
It looked like Pokemon Black/White could have ended there, but I was always unsatisfied with the ending. I really hope to see, like in HG/SS, Region traveling, although it probably won't.
I think they should make an MMORPG where, new versions and Pokes come out as purchasable DLC (for example gen 6 gets added to B2/W2 for $39.99) without having to carry around more cartridges. I have all games From Pokemon Red&Blue and I got Pocket Monsters Green Version (sealed, new etc etc.)
They've posted the info already for the US Pokemon company site. From what I understand from the paragraph it won't be a 3Ds exclusive but available for all DS owners. I'm still not sure what to think, I'm actually amazed they didn't just do one enhanced game and just leave it at that. Hopefully this means they rethought more than just the main story and maybe will add more content to keep the games interesting. (and possibly replace Pokemon Musical with something mildly entertaining like contests where the gamer actually tried to accomplish something.)
Yeah, June would be great for the US, but I just know they'll release it... December-ish?
Making a "2" in any series says, to me, that this will be a whole new plot and a continuation of the first games. But that raises a ton of questions. For example, will it take place in the same region? Will we have to beat the same gyms again? What about new pokemon?
The other possibility is that if Valve can't count to three, Nintendo/Game Freak can't count to two, or at least don't know what it means. What I'm saying is, it's possible that these new games ARE Pokemon Grey, and ARE just a re-tooling of Black and White. In this scenario, all that's going on is that Nintendo figured out they could make more money if "Grey" was two games that people would buy rather than one. Double their profits in one fell swoop.
@GofD: That would seem likely to be a champ. But I would like to add something to that. Wouldnt it be cool if you could load your file that you have on Black/White onto BW2? It might be hard to do, but its just an idea.
This seems like a good idea! A continuation would be a first! I hope that they extend the region though, therefore bringing more new Pokemon into the game!
Wow. EPIC. Really, this is almost too cool for Nintendo to do. I Would've never expected this. We thought that we had it all figured out already, After B/W, new improved and better versions of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire would come. Then Pokemon grey( or grey first, then R/S.), and then in 2015 or something a new gen of pokemon would come and their games would be released. But it seems they managed to surprise us. A really epic surprise. It would be awesome if they really are playable on the DS too. It has to be a continue from the first games. But how it's gonna be is hard to say.
"it's reasonable to think that Kyurem combines with Reshiram and Zekrom to become Ice/Fire- and Ice/Electric-type Pokemon."
You guys too? .-.
It's not reasonable. Kyurem will stay Dragon, even if it turns into a toaster. They are referred to as "legendary dragons" (unlike the trio of DPPt) throughout the whole story, and Dragon is their MAIN type (again, unlike the trio of DPPt, who just have it as the second types). There is no way on earth it will lose it's Dragon type. Even having 3 types seems more reasonable, but thats obviously not going to happen either.
@Blaziken2312 what a spamtastic comment! but seriously though, the pokemon franchise has needed something fresh for awhile to renew interest outside of the fanbase. if these truly are direct sequels to an existing game for the first time ever as the names suggest, then they might be the biggest blessing that the franchise has received since gen II. they might suck, but i'm inclined to think that they will be brilliant and that they will herald a new era for the series.
They're probably still gonna be Dragon/Ice type. I think that they dug themselves a hole in this one, anything similar and it won't be popular... So I think we can more or less xpect a new storyline.
@rtyk1 you have a point. putting 2 in the titles is akin to making big promises right off the bat. if those promises aren't kept, it will do the franchise considerably more harm than good.
I have a theory. N flies off with his dragon at the end. And that is the last we see of him. And Kyurem has always been missing some limbs, which makes me thing, maybe N wanted to help Kyurem, and combined them or something? And your adventure has to do with this new dragon that only the chosen one can tame. Just my two cents
@CrazyRazey - I had the same idea (as a lot of people probably have)!
But if they were to create a game with all 5 regions, I wouldn't want to do it with a single character. By the 3rd region, you'd probably be getting sick of gym after gym... Instead, I'd prefer playing through as 5 different characters (one in each region) having to use region-exclusive Pokemon, alternating throughout the game. And once you've beaten all 40 gyms (gah, that would take a while), everyone would join together and beat Team [insert random bad team here]. :D Of course, that would take hours upon hours (not that I wouldn't be willing to do that), and it kind of ignores the fact that some pokemon evolve or have pre-evolutions in different generations... But if the enemy group had stations in each region, it would make sense to have all 5 characters come together in the end as a final battle, right? :)
They should make prequel games as the trainer who originally looked after the legendaries and they eventually evolve into reshiram or zekrom (depends on the version) abd you train and look after the legendary and other pokemon while beating the gyms and participating in the storyline that would all take place before the original versions.
However if you do start with oshawott, snivy or tepig they should have three save slots.
@frenchhorn95 ah yes that does sound good coz i was thinking if you were one character and able to use any pokemon then they would get to level 100 way before you complete the game, so i do like that region exclusive idea
I just hope they make some RSE remakes soon. And WHY do we get the next games right at the end of summer vacation? Is Gamefreak trying to mess with us?
FYI There's a WiFi event going on right now that allows you to download either Zekrom or Reshiram (whichever you didn't get in the storyline) at level 100. It also unlocks a new Dream World area and gives you a new C-Gear skin. It runs until April 8, 2012 for non-Japanese games.
Dunno bout you guys but i think this whole merging idea is kick ass! They look great! I will be a bit peeved if they just to a re-run of the Unova region but I dont think they will seeing as they are producing 2 games (which they have never done for a 're-do game' (crystal/emerald/platinum etc.). I reckon there will definitely a be a hunt for N and perhaps N has located a Kyurem and combined his Zekrom/Reshiram with it?? It would work because if you go to the Japanese site you can see the box art and zekrom is now the main character for black (which in the original you got reshiram) and vice versa. Regardless though, its Pokemon! So im excited :D
ok, i dont mean to be offsensive, but this reeks, big time! this is just an idea gamefreak made cause they didint have any idea how to right a new storyline added to BW, forming a pokemon, ok, but in reality all it is is reshiram and zekrom with diffrent faces, nothing diffrent except for that, i thinks this idea is a big pile of DOG SHIT!
@genesectsbutt you really know how to give things the benefit of the doubt, don't you... you are also very good at using proper language on a blog about a kid's game where, you know, kids post. good job.
@legendhiro >Kids post Im 16 and most people here are teenagers. If you go to competitive battling forums such as smogon and PO (I doubt you even know them), the average age there would be about 16-18 years old... you better watch out how pokemon will outgrow cod in the next years bro And by the way the language he used is nothing compared to what has been used previously in this thread
@Dragoon_Tycoon i'm just saying that many users here could stand to be a bit more respectful in general, not to mention less harsh toward something that we know virtually nothing about. also, i don't really care how old you think the average age of a visitor to this sight might be, pokemon is also a kids' game, and the posters on any pokemon website should remember that. what is so hard about using more respectful, more reserved language on the internet?
I am glad that I am not the only person here who thinks that this is one of the worst ideas that Pokemon has ever done. However, it does tie in to the worst idea they've ever done: hyping the two Pokemon that are arguably the two most bland unimaginative Pokemon to ever exist. (Hint: one is black and the other is white.)
I honestly don't care too much that I am in the minority. However, my hatred of their decisions is never blind; I have my reasons. (It becomes a bit more obvious if you follow the current TCG trends, but most people here don't.)
I'm not getting my hopes up for this. When B/W came out, I set my expectations really low, and in the end, I enjoyed it a lot. I'm setting my expectations really low for White 2 as well; I just hope I won't be disappointed even then. Of course, what I'm expecting them to do is a complete repeat of the B/W1 story. And, knowing TPCI, that's the kind of stupid move that they'd do.
If Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 are continuations of Pokemon Black and Pokemon White, then they will likely use the Global Link to migrate data. However, that does pose a serious question as to how people who don't already have data would begin. What I think is most likely is that it has everything the first games had with some slight alterations and an expanded story and region. The fact that there are two versions is, I believe, a way of addressing the fact that you simply can't merge the stories of Black and White as they did with RSE and DPP because they require that N has one of the dragons.
Well, it's not going to be a "direct" continuation. So i assume N will be back, and the maybe the hero of B/W 1, but other than that we've been guarenteed it's not the same story line "duh" and it's in the same region. We really don't know much else.
@damaia Well, I don't have any idea on what could be in the games themselves. BW2 has the potential to either succeed epicly or fall flat on its face. I accept both possibilities as being likely.
However, given how TPCI has had a rather terrible track record lately, I am not too confident about the results. I could be wrong and this could be great...but I'm not getting my hopes up.
On an unrelated note, I don't know why people this game is going to have a whole new plotline. There's nothing that says that with 100% certainty.
The only time that "2" has ever been used in a main series title was the Japanese working title for GSC - Pocket Monsters 2. And that game turned out being a completely new sequel to the previous games.
That's also the fact that the version mascots were switched, i.e. Kyuram is White's mascot instead of Black, which implies that you're continuing from events of the first game.
Of course it's not confirmed but the evidence we do have lends itself to BW2 being sequels rather than a third version split into two.
I didn't read everyone else's comments, but I saw a theory I support- does anyone else remember the story about Reshiram and Zekrom, how they were both one, before the two heroes of ideals and truth(was that the second one?) tore them apart? I saw a theory that said these are them splitting apart (meaning, these are actuaqlly prequels.). Or, hey, maybe they're reverting to their original forms. Only one way to find out, eh?
i just came back from pranking today ;) i've seen a couple sites hyped up for April fools but i'm glad psypokes is in with the fun! happy april fools day everyone!
Hopefully they allow you to catch old pokemon in the new areas... Didn't get Black/White for the problem that ALL the pokemon looked ugly, and I couldn't catch any of the old ones.
Just wondering, would a Generation 1 purist hate Togepi? It appeared pretty soon in the anime series, before Johto and all, but it's technically Generation 2...
@frenchhorn95 i know some gen1 purists who do, and some who don't. i personally like almost every pokemon for one reason or another. togepi is no exception. actually i built a deck around poinson barb togepi way back in the day.
also, dragon/ice for both? really? now i wonder why, because no one who has ever worked on a pokemon game before would be stupid enough to do this if it didn't have some purpose behind it. something to balance it out and make them actually useful.
I think a really cool game for the pokemon series would be if for once, you took on the role of the bad guy. You could start out as a grunt member of team rocket and go around stealing pokemon from trainers for use and as missions. You should move up the ranks of team rocket as you play the game. Then for the final battle you face off with giovanni and the winner becomes the boss of team rocket.
And they could make a game for each region so later you are in team magma, for example, and you are one of the people trying to awaken and control groudon.
@bevins2012 ahh, yes that idea of being the bad guy in pokemon has crossed my mind a couple of times. but i always thought the pokemon game creators would never roll with that because they want all their games are kid friendly and they probably want to stick with 'good guy always stays on top' stuff. (although i think it would still be kid friendly even if you were allowed to play as the villain) hopefully this can become an option later on, even though they are trying all the new stuff on their minds like zekrom/kyurems and frankly will probably ignore most of our ideas for now ;)
@PokeFinatic oh yeah '~' maybe you could play as a good guy stuck with a bad guy group (team rocket, magma etc) that treats pokemon well but can't quit the group freely. so, like bevins suggested they would eventually make it to the top ranks of the group and beat the leader and then they would be leader. and since the main character is the good guy, they would change the group and it's members into a kind respectful group that treats pokemon right and blah
@griffinwolf i like this idea. a game where you have to reform the villain group from the inside would be an interesting twist on the typical formula of the games.
@PokeFinatic Pokemon is a game. No matter how much time you out in to it there is no such thing as love and respect for the pokemon in your game. They are programmed pieces of information.
@bevins2012 no offense, but you're wrong. if you have an emotional connection with something, the connection is real, even if that thing is incapable of reciprocating.
