Here's the results from last week's round of Psypoke Idol.
In a strange twist, one of the Top 20 moving on has actually improved in score compared to Round 1. Overall, the Top 20 was still down 0.2073 points on average, but your winner for Group 3, Lucario, was up to 4.0675 stars (from 4.0485). The rest of the Top 5 were Mew with 4.0624 stars, Flygon with 3.9116 stars, Vaporeon with 3.7778 stars, and Hydreigon with 3.7457 stars.
The Top 20 was rounded out with Kingdra, Groudon, Raikou, Empoleon, Dragonair, Ampharos, Gyarados, Scyther, Entei, Kabutops, Samurott, Quilava, Totodile, Meganium, and Haunter, who made it in with 3.3475 stars.
Just missing out this week were Wartortle at 3.3135 stars, Zorua at 3.2925 stars, Grovyle at 3.2903 stars, Sky Shaymin at 3.2744 stars, and Registeel at 3.2505 stars. The only other Pokemon to improve this round was Mightyena, whose 3.0698 stars (up from 3.0432 stars in Round 1) was enough to earn 33rd place.
The Bottom 5 this week were Vileplume at 2.7608 stars, Electric Arceus at 2.7071 stars, Houndour at 2.7003 stars, Prinplup at 2.5714 stars, and lastly Pinsir at 2.5323 stars. It's also worth noting that Pinsir fell the most this week compared to Round 1, losing more than half a star on average.
Make sure to keep voting every week for Idol and push your favorites into the next round!
Since other news has been slow lately, it's worth mentioning that if you've been thinking about buying a 3DS, Nintendo's made it a little easier on your bank. The price of the handheld dropped to $170 USD about 10 days ago. Is the new price enough of a deal to make you reconsider a purchase? Do any early adopters wish they had held out for an $80 price drop? Let us know in the Talkbacks.
I'm a little surprised about how badly Houndour did compared to the success of Houndoom. Does evolution really matter that much? Oh well, I'm still holding out for Arcanine or an Eeveelution to win. ;)
$170 is kind of out of my price range still. If it was $120-130 (like the DS Lite was, which will never happen) then it'd be a bit better. But as is, no can do. Besides, I wouldn't want a console that doesn't have games I'm interested in (yet).
I'm still glad I bought it when I did. I knew very well that the price would drop after a little while, but then I wouldn't have been able to play LoZ in 3D as many times as I did!
@Frost How am I not surprised that 10 out of the 13 in the 'winners' list are from Gen 3 and back, even though all of them are pathetic (looks and battling). I've noticed many Gen 4 and Gen 5 get a lot of stick for their lack of originality. Generally, from my experience, many ppl seem to love pokemon from the Gameboy games but then hate Pokemon from the DS Games. Having said that im surprised that Kricketune and Mothim got through
@ Majin Pichu Im going to have to disagree with you there. Finally a Gen 1 starter evolution is out! ultimate greatness... Now for the fall of Charizard!!!
... none of those Pokemon advanced in Idol except for Butterfree. I was using them as an examples of Bug Pokemon who are worse than Pinsir because somebody said Pinsir isn't that good of a Bug Pokemon compared to like five of the only better Bug Pokemon.
But surely there are a ton of Pokemon who made it to round 2 in Idol who suck more than Pinsir in battle. Metang for starters.
@IceArceus12 I have to kind of agree with you. I am not a fan of the epic craze that is the gen1 starters and the "charboner" but for some reason wartortle is the only one that has stuck with me thru the years.
I'm surprised that Smogon's mere existence hasn't erupted World War III, in that case.
All I REALLY did was a list a bunch of Bug-types (and a NFE middle evolution) that are generally considered to be terrible in battle and say that Pinsir is better than them IN BATTLE. I like Butterfree a lot more Pinsir. Do I think Butterfree is better than Pinsir in battle? No. That's not trying to make conflict.
@Frost Um, I'm not trying to make you angry it was more of an observation. Where i saw conflict possibly coming into play was rating one over another (even if statistically). I seem to remember a similar issue with the gen 5 starters.
@Frost Let me just clear something up, I dont judge Pokemon totally on their competitive battling skills. I also Judge them on their looks and how comfortable I would feel owning them as a pet in real life too. I think Pinsir looks awful and I would never want to own it. I'll list some more Bug-types who I consider better than Pinsir:
@IceArceus12, Even though Yanmega is like better in Pinsir in nearly every way possible. Battle wise, Yanmega wipes Pinsir out with either Air Slash or Ancient Power. Personally, I don't like Yanmega's normal colors, but I love the Shiny form. Pinsir is just meh...
@ Frost I'm guessing "prime" and "undated" has something to do with TCG (Which I have absolutely no clue about so I can't comment
@ Biosci I don't want to own a thing that (according to it's Pokedex entry) destroys glass with the mere flapping of it's wings. Also those huge ugly red eyes aren't for me...
@Frost Pinsir is pretty good. with swords dance rock slide brick break and x-scissor it can be a good sweeper. But Pinsir winning, like nearly all pokemon, was a bit of a long shot. Pinsir isn't exactly the most popular pokemon out of all of them or even out of all gen 1 pokes.
Calm down guys, we all have different opinions and preferences. I personally do things Frost's way, I evaluate pokemon mainly according to their battling skills. I can say Scizor is the best bug-type, but it doesnt bother me when someone rages in my face and says "my Durant pwns your ugly meat cutter"
lol @Frost, WW3 over Smogon's tiering would have really begun if all people in the pokemon community were bitching like what happens here...
I actually don't base much of my Pokemon opinions on battling skills at all, lol. I mean it's nice if something adorable happens to be good in battle, but my favorite Pokemon ever has been consistently NU in every Generation that had that tier, and it was only ever UU because NU didn't actually exist in RBYGSC. However I can still be objective when it comes to which Pokemon are probably better in battle.
Ledian, for example, is absolutely terrible in battle, so it doesn't take a whole lot for Pinsir to be better than it as a battle, even though I like Ledian more than Pinsir.
