Once again, the official website for Black and White (as well as our hosts, IGN) has been updated with new information on Black and White.
Your rivals' names are Bianca and Cheren. N will retain his name. Professor Juniper's assistant is Fennel; she'll ask you to bring her some Dream Mist from Munna and Musharna. As for the Pokemon, say hello to -Patrat the Scout Pokemon -Musharna the Drowsing Pokemon -Woobat the Bat Pokemon -Drilbur the Mole Pokemon -Cofagrigus the Coffin Pokemon -Gothitelle the Astral Body Pokemon -Reuniclus the Multiplying Pokemon -Axew the Tusk Pokemon -Braviary the Valiant Pokemon
Then, we have the abilities Overcoat, Sand Force, Mummy, and Sand Rush.
It has also been announced that the Legendary Beasts currently available at GameStop locations will be available over WiFi starting on February 7th.
Release dates for Europe - March 4th, and Australia/New Zealand - March 10th, have also been confirmed. You can check for more release dates in your area on the official site.
Lastly, to help promote Black and White, an American Mall tour has been announced. From February 5th until March 20th, the tour will travel the US during the weekends. You can see the full schedule in the official press release. (Regrettably, I won't be in town for the launch-weekend event at the Mall of America.)
With less than 2 months left before the release of Black and White, what are you most looking forward to? Which do you plan to get (or, which will you play first if you get both)?
It's gonna take me a little bit to get used to Cofagrigus, but all in all I CAN'T WAIT FOR THESE GAMES! I always hate that they make it so difficult to figure out the proper pronunciation of some of these names. "Axew" could go a couple different ways, "Cofagrigus" depending on where the emphasis is supposed to lie... Maybe I'm just bitter because EVERYONE pronounces "Milotic" differently and that's left a bad taste in my mouth.
I don't say this about the English names much, but Cofagrigus is a simply horrible name. I can't imagine the average member of Pokemon's demographic to look at that name and even be able to pronounce it, much less understand its origin.
The most im looking forward to is everything in black and white. Still unsure which starer to choose. most likely start with one, complete most everything on it, then start over with the next starter, and so on...probably will start with Tepig. I plan on getting (and i already have reserved and paid off @ my local GameStop :) thanks to my mom @ christmas) Pokémon Black. I really don't care what the english names are, i will like all of them eventually.
The names are pretty creative. They flow off the tongue very well for me. I myself will probably get black, but I'm getting my little cousin the opposite game also...
I've had White pre-ordered since the release date, thought about getting both, but decided against it. I have to replenish my collection of games, I've only got 6 at this point, White will make it 7...
Main reason I'm getting White is Zekrom, but Reuniclus looks pretty cool too!
cool that the proffessor's assistent really have a name this time. the names aren't awsome but they'll do. We'll get used to them. Woobat and braviary was the best of them, though.
I'm getting white and I'm most looking forward to play with the new pokemon, and the new adventure, simply. And I agree, some of them was a little hard to pronounce.
Getting White first, might get black in the future. some of these names are awesome(Braviary) while some are going to be rather awkward(Cofagrius) still, I can't wait, been impatiantly counting down the days and still have so long to go.
@tektonikyzer I still dont understand that ability, it would only have use when switching out or in multiple battles. Its really stupid unless I am misunderstanding something.
@dragontamer1021 If the opponent(s) gets the ability Mummy, then their actual ability would be useless. So let's say you battled a Kecleon against a Cofagrigus. Your Kecleon used a contact move, like maybe, Scratch. Because of Cofagrigus' ability, Mummy, Kecleon's Color Change ability would become useless.

Noticed something. Woobat and it's evo might be the new Zubat, Golbat, and Crobat. Drilbur and it's evo might be the new Sandshrew and Sandslash. Gigalith and it's pre evos might be the new Geodude, Graveler, and Golem. The ugly duckling that evolves into Swanna might be the new Magikarp and Gyarados.
~
BOLOGNA! BLACK AND WHITE ARE STILL AWESOME! I'm gonna wait for their third counterpart though. Because most of the time the 3rd one is awesomer.
@dragontamer1021 Essentially, it erases the pokemon's ability so your opponent has to think twice about using a contact move if their ability is a big part of their strategy or gives them an advantage....like Technician Scizor... You could also switch it in to do the same thing. Plus, Cofagrigus's great defenses help. @Frost they took the word sarcophagus and dropped it in a blender :D
@Funerallaughter - Haha, I think it's more of a cuteness factor. ;) And I must admit, it is pretty adorable, especially if it really IS supposed to be the zubat of the new generation.
@Probopass_Fails: Swanna and it's pre-evo has the feel of ugly/stupid-to-beautiful/awesome, something Magikarp and Gyarados have. (coughcoughandtheirhoennrehashesfeebasandmiltoic)
@Creampuff Hime: Gothitelle and its pre-evos maybe a compliment to Ralts and its evos characteristics, which is white and majestic. Unlike Gothitelle and its pre-evos, which is black and Gothic.
@GofD: If I were me, (which I am) I would wait for the thrid counterpart. Because most of the time, the third one is awesomer that the first two. (e.g Emerald and Platinum.)
@Impersonation If anything, Swanna is a rehash of Milotic. Unlike Magikarp, Swanna and it's pre-evo can each only be found in one place under special circumstances just like Feebas. But that doesn't make Swanna and Milotic the same thing either. You can catch Swanna without evolving Koaruhie, You can catch either in a matter of minutes as opposed to hours, and it evolves at level 35, not trading w/ item or maxing out it's beauty. And this is just personal preference, but i like Koaruhie more than Swanna, unlike Magikarp and Feebas.
Can Cofagrigus learn Sucker Punch? If so, watch out metagame, you're about to get screwed.
ANYWAY how do you guys think the odd names are pronounced? My bets are on the following: Axew - "AXE-ew" Cofagrigus - "caw-FAG-rig-gus" Minccino - "min-CHEE-no" Darmanitan - "dar-MAN-ih-tan" and Oshawott - "OSH-uh-watt" (osh as in osh kosh b'gosh)
@Spoinkable Nope, it can't. It also can't learn Hypnosis despite having Nightmare and Dream Eater :/ Axew: it has to...otherwise it sounds like a-choo! :) Minccino - I think so too
@smallFly9 And Feebas and Milotic are rehashes of Magikarp and Gyarados. I mean, ugly and weak first stage fish Pokemon evolves into awesome and strong dragon/serpent-like Pokemon.
Although I think Magikarp is cute and Gyarados is more awesome than that rehash Milotic.
Koaruhie and Swanna is just a different take on the weak-to-strong category.
BTW, Remoraid and Octillery might be the Johto's weak-to-strong Poke'mon.
I don't think Swanna has anything to do with Gyarados OR Milotic. Mostly because Swanna's stats are garbage, whereas Gyarados and Milotic have the same base stats only switched around.
@Impersonation Psyduck and Golduck, Slowpoke and Slowking, Tentacool and Tentacruel, Seel and Dewgong.... Almost any water type pokemon that evolves once will strengthen significantly. And i was only listing a few 1st gen examples. And for a water type pokemon to be worth keeping it must have both good attack (waterfall) and good special attack (surf) bringing swanna above the other two. Other good water types include: Octillery, Kingdra, Sharpedo, Crawdaunt, Huntail and legendaries.
@Ghoster Is that true? But if it is... Gamefreak and Nintedo of America REALLY went meant that they start fresh. A lot of the names are not your easy to say names. I mean, Unfezant? THIS IS AWESOME!
@Frost But they still have the feel of ugly to pretty/awesome. Although Swann(a) is weak compared to the other two, she still evolved from an ugly (but cute) Poke'mon.
@smallFly9 Almost ALL of Final Evolution Poke'mon are significantly stronger than their first evolutions. And the other Poke'mon that you said fits in other categories. The Magikarp category is when a weak/ugly Poke'mon evolves into a strong/pretty Poke'mon.
"It is said to live at the bottom of large lakes. Considered to be the most beautiful of all POKÉMON, it has been depicted in paintings and statues."
Swanna is nothing like Gyarados and Milotic since Black and White is a new fresh start. It won't make sense to make another weak/ugly-to-strong/pretty Poke'mon that's a fish that turns into a serpent-like creature.
Dragonair101: Thanks.
And oh yeah, you'll get both but you'll get Black for sure :D
Might as well get both :D
~
Hmmm....if I wait for the third counterpart, everybody else will be a step away from me because they know the whole storyline of Unova....
@Impersonation So you're saying that it's LOOKING weak then strong that they have in common. If so there are other pokemon that are like that. Kabuto and Kabutops, Barboach and Whiscash, Clamperl and either of its evos, Shellos and Gastrodon... And there are other pokemon that share similar designs, too. There are several monkey pokemon, several rabbit pokemon and dogs, cats, turtles, caterpillars/cocoons and fish. Yet each of those pokemon are different.
Actually, as far as I know, the Italians don't get their own translations of Pokémon names, just people and places, since the games aren't translated into Italian themselves, so Italian names would be kind of redundant -.-
but yes you have some reason I was reading the names and some names are to conplicated, they are like a 1.º work like in the pokemons, some of them are different from the draws that we saw before. I think that those names are ideias that are going to change but others are going to be the same. because if you see a name like: zebstrika, please comon.
I will be getting both, but I will play White first, as my friend shall only be getting Black. On the other hand, I have to agree with a few of you and say the third probably will be the best; I'll get that too.
I might get both versions, actually. I prefer the version-exclusives in White, but I really want Reshiram...
Is there a way of using the Internet to trade Pokemon between two of your own games, if you don't have a second DS system? (And if so, is this possible for the Gen IV games as well?)
You can put it on the GTS with a REALLY specific request. You put it up for something that's a high level so it would be a bit of a hassle for people to nab. Then IMMEDIATELY jump on your other game and trade them.
Or, you could use the "vendor trash" method, which I think is better. Go catch a lv 2 Bidoof or something equally as crappy, and request a lv 70 Lugia or whatever it is you want from your other game. If you lose it because someone really wants that Bidoof, then hey you now have a free Lugia! More than likely you won't, though, so you'll be able to trade back and forth to your heart's content.
I find that second method really petty. I hardly see any good offers in the GTS anymore, since almost all the trade offers are scams. Level one Pidgey for level one hundred Moltres? Really? I'm not that stupid. The only reason that method even works is because some people have an IQ of 0.
@Dragonair, hi would you mind reading more carefully please? DA asked about trading between two of your own games without two DS's, and I proposed a pretty good way to guarantee you can get your Lugia (or whatever is valuable to you) from one of Your Games to the other of Your Games without it getting stolen off the GTS before you can claim it. Do you have a better way of getting Your Own Pokemon between two of Your Own Games? If so, please share it, but try to be more respectful. Petty was an unnecessary word. kthxbye
