Psydex Locations & Design, Guides, and More[permalink]

Since the previous update, we've been hard at work on various things.
There's a Mew Event for HeartGold and SoulSilver that begins tomorrow. The Events List itself was also becoming rather convoluted, so I've rearranged things to be easier to read, and to allow us to establish a catalog of past events as well.
It was also pointed out to me that while most of those Events require the Mystery Gift these days, we didn't have a single source of information on what that actually is, so that's been added too.
The Psydex has been one of the two major projects lately. With all the new abilities and other new mechanics, our information on Type and Abilities was getting a little cumbersome. You'll find that things are much neater now. Hopefully this makes the information easier to read, especially in cases like Rotom and the complete change of types its alternate formes have undergone.
In addition to that, the data for standard in-game wild encounters has been added to the Psydex, meaning most locations are now listed.
Because that location data includes the Gen I-IV Pokemon found after the Elite Four, a page containing Gen I-IV Pokemon in BW has also been started. This list is based on a single set of data, however, and will likely grow as more data is processed.
In a similar vein, this new data has resulted in the Version Exclusives page updating itself with more Pokemon. One big change is that Monmen and Churine aren't listed, because while not found in the wild in one game, they each have an in-game trade available, making them not really exclusive.
Lastly, Frost is continuing to work hard on the Black and White Walkthrough, with the second section now posted. Our Video Guide is also updated to be on par with the written walkthrough.
Do you like what you see of Black and White so far? Are you playing along on an import copy, and are you enjoying it? On a personal note, I'm finding these games to be far more fun than Gen III or Gen IV, and can't wait to get an English copy in a few months. How about you?
@mattty21 For Pokemon where weaknesses and resistances were unaffected by anything, the old display was nice. But, I specifically linked to Azumaril as an example because it was almost unreadable in the old style. To see "Grass" listed as both a Weakness and an Immunity was rather confusing. Having "Fire x0.5" and "Fire x0.25 (With Thick Fat)" in the same column was also poor design.
Feedback on the new layout is appreciated though, and may help us improve it even more.
I like what you guys are doing, it makes the site much better for regular users and visitors; Keep up the good work and tell Frost to stop spoiling us...
no jiggleypuff i liked the other ay a lot better......just saying....................volbeat suks

hmm ive been waiting for a legal mew for some time now. ahm gunna name it puffy! (not really but he will learn silver wind. ive had 2 of those tms for quite some time now
From a business standpoint, Nintendo and Gamefreak would never do something like that because it would render all of the old games (and their potential future remakes) pointless.
From a gameplay standpoint, I don't know why everybody pines so much for a game with every region. Wouldn't that turn into a super repetitive, boring grindfest? Beating forty Gym Leaders in one cartridge sounds like a snore to me. And wouldn't the existing Gym Leaders have to have their levels readjusted extensively to the point that they wouldn't be realistic to the original games at all?
imo, it was boring. and the grinding was even worse. i think what Frost means is that it would get repetitive; even if there were quests/a story to do in every region, they would all probably be pretty similar. the only thing that would be good about it is the massive amount of exploring you could do, which is the only reason i would ever hope for such a game.
@psy_striker59 Yes, I would get bored with it. I did not enjoy HGSS, and I stopped caring about the story portion of the Pokemon games a long time ago.
I love the new weaknesses and resistances layout. A different list for each ability is brilliant, because now we don't have to try to ignore certain types listed if our Bronzong has Levitate or something. Very quick and easy now.
I went crazy playing White last night and beat the Elite 4... The following is my party: Daikenki; Baokkii; Wooguru; Rakurusu; Gorebyss; Mismagius (Not very big on Legendaries)
@psy_striker59 I still haven't beaten the last 4 gym leaders in Heart Gold version, despite the fact that I have bred and trained 6 teams to level 100 so far. Going to gyms when your pokemon are already such a high level just seems kinda... pointless.
hmm. true but what if (this is probally going to far but im liking this discussion) you are able to to what ash does, put all his current pokemon in the pc and start over kinda
i'm going to wait till they come out in the spring, partly because i don't know how to get a translated copy, and partly because i want to wait, but has anyone who imported a copy used Jarooda? i want to use it, but it's offensive stats aren't very good, is it worth it?

ugh im tired of waiting, next generation im getting a japanese version even though i cant understand. i will just go with tha flow. p.s. my mew is amazing. 1 mega punch and 1 silver wind is all it needs for the death of most pkmn its level
@psy_striker59, I get what your saying to have all pokemon available in one game, but if that happened nintendo would drop sales of other pokemon games, repeating game play, and many other problems. @nomnom52, What did I do? All I did was get it normally I didn't do anything else.
@wickedwizerd22: I'd say it is. Even though it doesn't have especially good HP, Attack, or Special Attack it has the best Defense, Special Defense, and Speed. (Plus for me, since I always have 1 fire, 1 water, and 1 grass pokemon choosing a different starter would mean not using Shandeera or Gamageroge, and I really want them.)
Except that high defenses are pretty worthless in-game. Jarooda only becomes decent with its Dream World ability, and that's only because its SA doubles everytime it uses Leaf Storm. Even then, it has horrible Special coverage (or Physical coverage for that matter).
It is easily less useful than the other two as far as getting through the game.
I know there's the Name Rater, but it didn't work on the SMR2010 Jirachi...
The question I'm asking is this: Does the event Mew have YOU as the original Trainer, or does it come with its own Trainer ID number (like Jirachi did)?

@DarkAriados it comes from someone called fal1010 or something like that
@Jigglypuff - Because, you know, I don't get on every few hours hoping something will happen. :P But as CanvasK said, we were meaning updates on the main page.
