GPCT 3-1 Results, New TCG Set, New Cat Pokemon and BW Rumors - Starter Evos[permalink]

Let's start off with the facts: the final HGSS TCG set will be called HS Triumphant; featuring more than 100 cards from the Japanese Lost Link and Clash at the Summit Sets, it will be available in stores on November 3rd.
Next, voting for the first one-on-one match of GPCT2's third round has concluded and, much like at the end of Generation I's games, Red has defeated Blue to advance to the finals. Red garnered 71.1% (11585 votes) of the total compared to Blue's 28.88% (4706 votes). This week's seminfinal match is Lance vs. Cynthia, and the winner will face Red in the final match next week.
On to some rumors. As you know, we generally avoid posting rumors and speculation on the main page. Not too long ago, pictures of alleged evolutions for the Black and White starters hit 2ch, and the rumors have been flying ever since. However, it's now been suggested that these evolutions are indeed credible.
A few different sources are reporting these pictures as legitimate. Most notably would be Pokexperto, whose source has a strong track record with Black and White info leaks. Given that, we'll go ahead and post them.
The following has NOT been confirmed by any official sources. It should be treated as rumor only.
Once again, we stress that these evolutions are only rumored.
In addition to these evolution rumors, there is also an image going around claiming that Yanappu is part of a trio of monkey Pokemon meant to demonstrate the new Triple Battles.
The blue form of Yanappu is supposed to be a Water-type called Hiyappu, and an unseen Fire-type variant called Baoppu would round out the trio of Triple Battle Pokemon featuring the new Acrobat attack.
While this image is said to be taken from the back of the Black and White game box, we stress again that these other Yanappu-like Pokemon are not completely confirmed yet.
In other Black and White news, I have reformatted our FAQs page for the games to answer some more questions. If you have other questions that you think should be included, I'm collecting a list of them in our forums, as it's difficult to make up questions when I already have the answers.
Finally, on Monday, September 6, a promo for a BW special aired that had a small picture of new cat Pokemon in the background. It's shown next to Yanappu here:
Tabunne, the rabbit-based Pokemon from the BW demo tours that was reported previously, also appears elsewhere in the background, confirming it as real.
From what i've heard (from serebii) the first evo for tsutaja and mijumaru are correct or at least the shape is. personaly i think the others are a load of ?r@9
the last evos look like loads of sh!%. Pokabu's is a fusion of rhyperiors arms on magmorters body. the color sceme is completly different for the grass starter. Ans the water one is supposed to be an otter, not w/e that thing is
@smallFly9 The middle evos for both of them match the concept art that was posted back in July, yes. See http://www.psypokes.com/news/413 for the sketch. Still, it's easy to design the images we see here if that sketch is available, so it's still difficult to say if these are real.
There are enough sources which have been right in the past saying these are legit, however, so it's worth making an exception to our usual policy on rumors to include it in an update.
i hope with all my heart that these images are real, if so i'm totally getting the grass starter, the water one looks cool, and i like the fire one more that the original starter i'm hesitant though, the fire final evolution looks not at all related to the other ones, i like how the grass snake becomes more snake like as it evolves
I can believe the fire and grass ones, even though the fire one looks like another fire/fighting. The only thing about the water i REFUSE to believe is that 1. The color scheme is completely wrong. and 2. WTF IS THAT FINAL? It looks nothing like an otter. But Tsutaaja i can believe, especially because it confirms my suspiciouns, SPOT ON.
ok well i can believe the grass one but the water is either fake or just lazy. From an otter to a... Unicorn loch ness monster!! I knew it! haha also the fire is a fail because its nothing special. it doesn't POP for me.
I guess they've been proven false. The Grass final evo is a rehatch of Milotic, Pokabu's is a rehash of Rhyperior, and the water is a rehash of Dialga. I wouldn't believe anything until the games are OFFICIALLY released and there's official evo's
Final grass one is ok but the 2nd grass evo is possibly the ugliest pokemon EVER - water final one is ok but doesn't fit in with its other evolutions - I was looking forward to a 4 legged inferno pig... i think that for once the fire starter will be least popular, and if it's fire and fighting again i will be very upset. Overall - worst starters yet. i hope they're fake.
Come on, how can anyone expect us to think these could actually be official. The water and grass 2nd evos are just colorized from the sheet that came out a while ago. The artist would use them to add credibility to these images. Very ingenious. The final grass evo has a fairly plausible design but the color scheme is way off like someone already said. Then, there's the 2nd fire, final fire, and final water evos.... I think they speak for themselves :)
Well ofcourse Red won... I hope Lance wins this one :) The water-evo's are so cool :D i really like them... the grass one is cool either. And the fire second one looks funny but the last evolution... I don't know.. it's just weird... ''ok so we've got a grass milotic,a fire rhyperior and a water dialga'' iaah you're right, they kinda look like them...
well i believe that the fire last ev looks..."ok"?but with that overal look it must be sloooooow, unlike the other fire starters. the grass one is very cool.a grass snake and it has a very royal look with all that golden markings on it. the water one is a BEAST.i am definitely gonna pick that!it's not an otter-like ev,so what!!it has flippers and face and whiskers like a seal and there is a whale-unicorn and has parts of them both.and it would propably be a water-ice which is very close to them both. as for the types except for the fire both grass and water could be Dragons...at least they have the looks to support that kind of second type...
WTF? If this is true, it looks like Pokabu's evo is another Fighting type!? How many do we need!?! WTF?! I personally love the rumored water evolution though. :)
@lexvol i dont think the water one will be water/dragon as cool as you and i think it is. im thinking water and ice beacuse it kinda reminds me of a lapras
@psy_striker59 yeah you're probably right!too cool to be true!!! water/ice it's more possible but that i don't like!too many weaknesses and if the fire evo gets fighting second type they get to be something like equal... then we have to look at stats and goes away from the pokemon itself...
well the secondary types require another triangle like generation four there was a fighting/steel/ground thing going on I think that they will be water/rock (because of the whole otter w/shell thing), fire/fighting, and grass flying. I really hope these are fake :P
My Money is on these being fake. The middle evos look fine, but the final evo on all 3 is very questionable. The fact that so many people's internal B.S detectors are going off makes me doubt these. When in doubt, throw it out!
I'm hoping these are fake. The grass final looks okay, but the design isn't very new. It's basically a grass Milotic. The fires final looks awkward, the overall design doesn't feel right to me. The waters final actually looks good, but it doesn't look anything like the previous 2 evolutions, which bugs me.
The starters-- Tsujaata's final is cool i think. Mijumaru's second is cute but the final looks like a digimon Porkubo was cute, the second looks like a sumo-wrestler, and the third....i'll just stop there
@psy_striker59 i thought about that too but we already have houndour and the physical appearance just doesn't fit... i just want the thing with the starters being each others weakness grass->water,water->fire,fire->grass to be kept as it should be. in the last generation this was messed up.infernape against tortera with STAB earthquake,or empoleon against infernape with STAB close combat!
These "evolutions" are horrible. But still, no matter what happens (unless mijumaru's final evo is tsutaja's final evo) i'm still choosing tsutaja! I'm just not that into mustached seashell unicorns and flaming things on steroids.
Im thikin the second stages are real, and the grass final evo. I SEE that working. As for the other two: as someone who has always chosen fire as a starter the fire one is... well not uniquie enough for me. The water looks cool....almost too cool?
In my opinion, which seems to be the popular one, this are not real. They simply do not have consistency of design. As was said before, the middle grass and water types are very likely real, but these images of them are not legitimately produced.
The image of the grass final may be fairly close to the dragon/serpent creature I expect to see, but the others aren't believable. The water final does not follow the otter model, and the fire type transitions too abruptly from quadrupedal pig to upright beast-thing, and it obviously borrows the gold whirl motifs from Infernape. And what's with the wrestler outfit? There is no way Gamefreak is going to produce another fire/fighting starter.
I'll be surprised and disappointed if they are real.
some of these are true, some arent the tsuutaja evolution is true, but not the third, im not sure about pokabu AT ALL but i know mijumuru isnt true teh evolution has toe shells on its stomach, its nose grows sharper, and arms get longer
Wow am I glad to see these, I think they are the best ever since... well, the begining! My friends and I made a pact, they will be taking the grass and fire starters, and i'll be taking the water XD, now i'm so glad to see the water evo's look pretty darn awsome!
I'd take a bet and say that the final evo's types will be Grass/Psychic, Fire/Dark, and Water/Fighting. But, well have to see. I hope I nailed it!
@xXDarkMoonXx I can see the Grass/Psychic, and the Fire/Dark, but the Water final form doesn't strike me as Water/fighting
I am SO getting the Gras starter now. then i'd get the Water, the Fire one is a little...mehh i like it more then some others, but not more then Blaziken(my favorite fire)
the final water form doesn't look good at all(by good i mean fit with the pre-evolutions) but looks pretty sweet if its just a water pokemon
I like the way Tsutaja's "evolutions" look, how his arms and legs get smaller each time, much like what scientists hypothesize happened to the original snakes. The water's final form looks quite awesome, but as many others have said, it looks too good to be true. No comment on the fire starter. Maybe the rumors will be true, but I'm leaning towards not.
@lexvol i just had a thouoght that is way out there. even though these are rumors, it night wrk out what if say the fire starter evoled to a fire/fighting but then it evoled to a fire/dark or steel. for the water it could be water/fighting into water/ice. the grass still has me stumped
im either getting fire or water the fire starter's final evolution is from one of those chinese myth and the water one's final evolution is just a lapras with a horn on its head the grass one's final evolution is a grass/dragon type i think, but it looks bad so im sticking with either water or fire
Can I just say, it's really weird how the best-looking starter apparently has the ugliest final evolution?
The Grass-type's final stage is sub-zero cool, so that would be my choice. But even the clown-faced Water-type starter would be worth getting just for the final evolution, which looks way better than its two predecessors.
for those of u sayin these cant be true cuz the finals look nothing lik the originals... does blaziken look lik torchic, empoleon lik piplup?? & i rly hope tsutajas final (if true) isnt grass dragon... such a huge weakness to ice
@eggrolls, i understand your point but i think you're missing mine. you're right, blaziken and empoleon look very little like torchic and piplup. what i am seeing however is not about looks; its about consistency of design.
blaziken is obviously still a chicken, and empoleon is obviously still a penguin. Here though, the fire evos make a big jump in style and by stage 3 look very un-piglike (minus the nose, but that's a given). as for the final water - if i was not aware that it descended from otters i would have no idea what to call it.
again i may very well be wrong about all this but i can't help but feel like i'm being duped.
and yes, grass/dragon would be weak to ice, but think about dragon/flying, and dragon/ground pokemon, two very popular type combos. we'll just have to see i guess.
@UrsaKazam... i gotcha now... & yea i understand bout dragon/flying & dragon/ground but as a starter pokemon do u rly want it 2 have such heavy weaknesses 2 a somewhat common type? that was my issue with the grass/dragon thing... at the same time i always thought itd b grass/psychic... completely ignoring the weakness 2 bug type... so who knows
@eggrolls, if the grass starter turn out to be grass/dragon type, it won't be the only starter pokemon to have such heavy weaknesses, think of charizard it 4x weak to rock time just like how a grass/dragon will be 4x weak to ice types, and so i don't think it will be a problem
man these look epicly creepy! if the water starters are true (PLEEEEEZZZZZEEE) then they are totaly my first choice. (although the final water evo does look a little to much like a unicorn) = the fire looks UUUUUGGGGGLLLLLYYYYYY >P the grass final... could be real. it looks the most... realistic out of all of them...
FAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEE pokabu's third evo is ryperior tsutaaja's third is milotic and mijimaru's is dialga with pieces of the tail cut off and flippers for feet
I reckon these are fake because the eyes tend to stay the same throughout the evolutions. However, the grass ones eyes change colour and become thinner and the water ones eyes completely change. The fire ones sort of stay similar though. =/
"We assure you that these pokemon are real," (courtesy of google-translate) is about all Pokexperto has to say about these guys in addition to "knowing" their type combinations. Hmm... Yeah, okay. I don't think that the Spanish have any official info that we do not. Sorry, I like proof.
Okay, we don't know the types of these at ALL if they're even real, can we please stop crying about how Pokemon X's evolution is Type Y AGAIN?
Also, we already know that at least two of these six are real. Tsutaaja and Mijumaru's evolutions have already been leaked in anime concept art that had Ash, Iris, Team Rocket, Koromori and Kibago, all of whom are confirmed to be in Best Wishes and/or real Pokemon.
hey can anyone help me i am deciding for platinum if i should go with hippowdon or magnezone. i alrweady have a treecko piplup charmander togepi and a gible picked out but i need help with the hippowdon or magnezone issue.....thanks
I want Pokabu final evo become Fire/Ground or Fire/Dark, Tsutaja become Grass/Flying and Mijumaru become Water/Fight. And I hope to you, Arceus, that those pictures are fake
There is no way this is true. Espically since the final evolutions look so copied. Pokabu's looks like Rhyperior. Mijumara's looks like Dialga. And Tsutaja's looks like Milotic.
Can we please stop comparing all these leaks (real or fake) to Pokemon from previous generations?
The fact that a picture looks vaguely familiar to somebody does not mean anything. Nor does the fact that someone thinks there are styling inconsistencies... there's no law saying they have to maintain old trends when designing new Pokemon.
I'm with DarkAriados. Just because something looks "similar" to another, doesn't mean it is related (remember Kricketot? Everyone thought it would be a Volbeat/Illumise baby), and vice-versa, it doesn't have to look the same to be related (ex: Feebas/Milotic, Clamperl/Gorebyss/Huntail, Trapinch/Vibrava....wow these are all from the Hoenn region).
@robbydebry Um, what THREE new Pokemon have we not covered yet? We've already reported the two new monkeys as well as Tabunne in previous updates. The only one we haven't mentioned is the new cat and that's because there's only ONE small screenshot of it. You can barely even tell it's a cat in that picture.
at what point can we expect any kind of official game info. i mean, obviously it wont be up the moment the games are released in japan, but what kind of time-frame is typical?
First and foremost, Sugimori, I knew you couldn't disappoint! I am deathly in love with the Chinese, Japanese, Western theme, though is "by theme" only in the art or in the poke's "story" as well? Since the only snake I recall in Western lore is quite Biblical? Nevertheless, I've still got my hopes up for that flying pig!
@FingerMan Uh, no. Sugimori's response matches the rumored Wotter evolution verbatim. It's a sea lion with a sword shell on its head. And the line that the video tries to point out as evidence isn't even in the report anymore.
The middle evolutions are real. The third ones are fake. The grass types last evolution is obviously an edited Dragonair. The fire type's third is an edited Rhypherior and Magmortar. The water type's a mix of Palkia, and some other pokemon.
Guys, I will tell you this now; these are 100% real. I have the game and I've seen all of the pokemon here already. The designs aren't the best, but we're going to have to live with them. But in other news, the graphics in the game is amazing <3 And the storyline seems a tab bit different this time c:
