The first episode of the new anime series, Pokemon BW (Best Wishes) will air on September 23rd, the week after Pokemon Black and White hit stores.
The official site for the series sheds some light on what we can expect to see. Much like Black and White are a revitalized beginning for the games, Pokemon Best Wishes! is meant to be a fresh start for the anime as well.
Ash and Pikachu move on to the Isshu Region to continue their quest to become the greatest. They're a long way from home and will make several new friends on their journey.
Little is known about exactly who Iris is, but she is described as the "action girl" of the series with a penchant for climbing trees with her Kibago.
Dento is the first Gym Leader of the Isshu region, and an expert on determining if a Pokemon and their Trainer are working together as an effective team. Dento joins Ash on his journey and leaves his Gym behind (effectively dropping him into the Brock archetype). It has now been officially confirmed that Dento will have a Yanappu.
Shooti is a Pokemon Photographer who will be chronicling his journey throughout Isshu. He comes from the starting town in Black and White. He is a strong and driven trainer seeking to win the Isshu championship, dropping him nicely into the rival role.
Lastly, the official site also updated with two new teasers for the series, which we've reproduced here for your convenience. They are largely the same, though one is twice the length of the other and adds a little more content.
UPDATE: At the request of a YouTube subscriber, I've also gone ahead and compiled the 21 different 5-second teaser clips into the second video above. A few of them were already featured in another of our videos, but they should look a little smoother now.
Are you excited about the new anime series? What do you think of the fact that Ash appears to be the only human carryover (though it looks like Professor Oak will at least make a cameo)? Do you think rebooting the anime at the same time as the games is a good idea for the series, or is this "breathing new life" approach the worst idea ever? Let us know!
it looks cool but whats dento's type for his gym, it cant be grass becuase thats aloe but he eventually gets a yanappu but brock does get different types of pokemon too
im so looking forward!! i think it will be a breath of fresh air :D Yay!!! ash obviously catches the new starting bird pokemon like he normally does :)
@Spoinkable team rocket should be in it cause if you look at that scan thing that came through ages ago with the drawings of ash, iris and some other pokemon it also showed team rocket.. although that could be fake.. D: if team rocket isnt in it any more i will cry!
I always did wonder how a Gym Leader can supposedly just leave behind their gym and go on a journey, effectively stopping other trainers from getting all 8 badges. Unless...it's Ash's plot all along but I think that'd be giving him too much credit. ={P
@kingcaleb333: I think Dento is asking Ash for what he wants to eat, seeing as he's wearing a waiter's outfit. @mattty21: are your eyes going bad? Mijumaru's shell is exactly where it should be. Watch the trailers again and look specifically at it's chest. The shell is there.
Ash needs to get out and let someone else take the spotlight.
I won't watch the series anyways, but I can only hope that it is completely different from any past series. I think it is a great idea to change everything. Every single time a new season is released, it is ALWAYS THE SAME SHOW. There is absolutely no character development or storyline progression [it's like watching Sisyphus roll a pokeball up the indigo plateau for a hundred episodes only to do it again in the next series]. It's not just Pokemon's fault, however, it's really the same problem with all Shonen [I mean look at Bleach, awesome for the first 20 episodes, then just generic and terrible after that, once it fell into the ultra typical Shonen trap]. I doubt BW will really resolve this issue, but maybe it will be a step in the right direction [you'll have to tell me] "I've seen what's over the horizon, and I promise you, [you] have nothing to celebrate! And no, I won't get there with you. I'm going to Canada." -MLK (sorta) :)
Changing some characters and adding a new region doesn't completely overhaul the anime series. They need to do a lot more than this, like change the format. Make it different than "Introduce new Pokemon, Team Rocket intercepts, Team Rocket is defeated." I'll have to see it to believe it, I guess.
@mattty21 The shell is in its hand, apparently it isn't attached to the stomach. It took me a moment to look over the picture to realize the shell blends in with the background.
Dento totally looks like he could be one of those bipolar type characters (shy and clumsy usually, but turns evil when provoked) but I highly doubt they are actually gonna do something that cool.
and Ash's eyes look like they are getting more "Shoujo- like" to me (bigger and brighter) which I really don't mind since I'm a shoujo fanatic.
pikachu's iron tail attack looks cooler and ash isn't the only human carried over team rocket is carried over to cuz one of the news from a long time ago said tat jessie got the new bat like pokemon
Ash's eyes have always been brown, but they only make it noticable in the movies. but now that i look, that does seem to make him look odd. and who was it that bet battle points that brock would take the boar?
New region, New characters, New Pokemon, Best thing ever! Although, If we only see 80-100 new Pokemon It won't make the whole "New Pokemon Experience" thing seem as cool, I would love to see at least 150 new Pokemon.
is it just me or does ash look a little... different? he doesn't look like ash anymore... i wonder if there changing artists?
looks like there is no more brock =... i feel sad

If they REALLY wanted to breathe new life into the anime, they should replace Ash with a different character (perhaps the male or female protagonist of the Black & White games)
In today's Episode "Dawn of a New Royalty" they aired a commercial. On top of a new episode @ 7:00am PT, @ 10:30am PT, they will be having a 4 hour marathon of Pok?mon. The first 3 episodes will be Pokemon Chronicles Episodes "The Legend of Thunder" Part 1-3, Then Regular Episode "Entei at your own risk" and will conclude with "Pokemon 3 The Movie".
I think Ash's new look is much better than his old one, I always hated his tiny eyes >w>
idk, I'm looking forward to this series, I just hope it's better then the last one... Although, that's probably never going to happen, we can always hope right?
I don't know about you guys, but Dento's eyes scares me ._.
So they really do want to change the anime around a lot.I'll miss Brock a little.Am I the only one or do Ash's eyes keep on getting prettier and prettier?Did anyone also notice how much they repeat themselves in the second video?I wanna know about that.and @mattty21,the water type is holding the shell if you look closely at its hand on the left.so now we know its not really attached to its chest, really.
Well I think I know why they changed the anime so much... Pokemon was released 10years+ ago, so the ppl who actually watched pokemon were around 10 now 10years later they are around 20 and they should have kids (ok
@ remizebra..yeah I think the best Pokemon series was when Ash, Brock and Misty were together. I watch every episode of those series. I think I miss most of the new series beginning with when May came on.
@Everlasting Sapphire 100% agreed. The writers have forgotten what made Ash so cool in the first place, and without those aspects of him, he's a bland, uninteresting person and brings absolutely nothing to the table other than a recognizable face. Now, if they brought back the old Ash who was just a clumsy kid with his head in the clouds, I would have a lot more hope in this anime than I do after seeing Iris's design.
