I really hate the water pokemon, it looks pretty dumb, and the fire pig/bunny is not very cool either. The grass looks cool though, but I'm disappointed i hope the revolutions look better

im a little upset theyre still grass-fire-water, but oh well
i agree about the water starter, but i think the fire pig might have some promise, despite it having a green forehead (green on a fire pokemon? really?)

Fire one looks cool, looks like that
bandanna will continue through the
evolutions. Water one looks ridiculous,
some sort of polar bear fish and the grass
one looks weird. Am i the only one who
thought that the nose thingy on the grass
one's silhouette was hair?

I thought it was hair too and that he was looking to the side. Thats the only thing I got wrong though. I think they look...umm...jusk OK. Im not that impressed, but I have let previous "undesirables" grow on me and the same thing might happen here. The water poke is my least favorite, but Im judging based on only evolution one.

If you want Squirtle as a starter, then play Gen I or FRLG over and over. The point of new Pokemon games is NOT to be carbon copies of the old stuff.

i'd have to see the stats, but i like the grass type one the most. shredder(my lvl 100 sceptile currently in my FR) needs a friend :3

I hope the final evolutions look better than that. The water pokemon is probably the worst looking starter to date.

also is it just me or does this look like they took prior successful pokemon and recreate them into a worse looking form. The Grass pokemon looks like a bad copy of treecko, The fire pokemon looks somewhat like Grumpig and the Water pokemon that I don't think could be described looks like they took peices of other water pokemon and threw them together.

chikorita is the only grass starter NOT based on a reptile

grumpig=pig new fire starter=boar

based on looks i like the water starter the least (as many of you agree) but i think that bear-like Pokemon might have some decent attack stats. I like the grass starter the most. I don't think it looks that much like Treecko but it looks like it could have the same good speed stat (nice!). I'm not sure about the fire-starter. I mean it looks fine, maybe it will gain some nice HP stats. Can't wait for more!

the water starter's not incredibly bad. just a little. and besides, it could have some beast-mode evolution. personally, i think the fire pig looks the most promising. the grass lizard thing (don't see how it looks like a snake) looks kinda stuck-up, or is it just me??

the grass one is clearly a crocodile and the water one is sweet! its like a beaver with a snowball for a head and the horns are going to get bigger. i bet the pig is going to evolve to look like ganon

Whats with the name of the region Isshu? I'd like to point out that all fire starters start out fairly simple looking and end up being cool. i still think that the water is the best based on potential for cool evolotions i bet the grass will have the best stats though.

I found all kinda weird, they seem a sketch ... The shell that is in the belly of the otter is like a ... well ... = X. .. errr ... use your imagination ... And I think that if they withdrew his Rudolph's nose he would be less ugly ... The boar seems silly ... And the grass type... it look like the Mogli's snake wearing coat

Yeah, the dual type fully evolved starters are getting more and more common, it wouldn't surprise me if all of the final evolutions of these guys are all dual typed.

Yeah i think the lest pure starter was Sceptile

all i see on his belly is a shell and dont be so quick to judge them all the past ones turned out just fine

Yeah, I don't understand how people didn't get that the water starter was a sea otter. Especially since it's holding a shell.
But nonetheless, I think they're all pretty ugly and I'm extremely disappointed.

The design style of the pokes seems to cater more to japanese tastes as pokemon goes on, which is understandable. Maybe its just my natural bias, but the pokemon design to me was a more neutral cartoon style in the past although it was always anime. Or maybe based on animals a little more then now. I dont mind a few outrageous designs because it makes things interesting, but I hope the majority of the new pokes look a little less... odd.

The snow-cone Pokemon is the weirdest Pokemon i have seen yet, but it will be interesting to see what giant snowman like thing they make it into. As for the blade of grass, i think he looks kinda stoned. And the pig i think will be awesome.

i dont think they're getting more japanese just more complicated, probably because each new handheld and game cartrage has more memory, pixles, colors and graphic capabilities. we all know we'll buy one if not both games and it will be a blast exploring a new region. every painter wishes to paint with a finer brush.

Oh yes. I read this update and did a little fist-pump. Not because the starters looked awesome, because, frankly, they don't, I was happy that I was right about fire-dude being a pig (or a boar, which is essentially a wild pig). I'll probably go with the grass starter, he doesn't look quite so rediculous. Oh well, maybe they'll add some cool evolutions and other Pokemon in this set.

By the way, it's still entirely possible for the water starter to be an otter: one of an otter's choice meals is shellfish, which it breaks open with rocks while holding the shell on its stomach, thus the "shell" on his stomach. As for the grass-guy, I'm not gonna hazard a guess at what in the world he is. Guess I'll just wait and see.

im going with water .. always have always will because in every game the water starter has always had an advantage aginst the 1st few gyms..plus my friends are going to give me the other starters anyways so yeah. GO WATER

great news! i have found out the names of the new starters here are the names:

water = Mijumaru and its a sea otter
Fire = Pokabu and its a fire pig
Grass = Tsutaja and its a grass snake

Alright, two out of three is not bad. The snake thing seems a bit il-concieved, since he has hands and feet, but oh well. At least I got the sea otter thing right.

I think I'm going with the otter thing though, I always choose the water one, and I think it can evolve in something cool.

bulbasaur, charmnader and squirtle to lugia, ho-oh and celebi) were BILLION TIMES BETTER!!!

crap? They look like some 10 year old drew
them. I was excited when I saw Zorua and
thought the starters would look as cool as
that but what a huge disappointment.

grasssnake's gotta be my fave grass type starter, and 3rd fave starter next to cyndaquill and mudkips. fireboar's cute too. snowotter's just freaky though >:P

The grass one is my favourite out of the new starters. But I think the fire one is kind of cute. But the grass one is definitely my favourite.

Otter or not, the Water type appears to have freckles. Very creepy.

I also agree about the Grass type looking stuck-up/snobby.

And Chimchar is not ugly. :P

awwwwwww they made a little otter! i like the water one, its cute (though i hope its typing isnt a dual water ice or something old, maybe something uniuqe) the fire pig looks promising, the grass one......I HATE........im sorry guys,.... it looks stupid, grass snake? it looks like a rode runner/lizard (and i love lizards) they need to alter it, maybe some tweaking "SNAKES DONT HAVE LEGS" gyooo

I really agree with VivianLeeScott. They are running out of good ideas. Pokemons will drop slowly from amazing to kinda bad if pokemons in the future are gonna look like this sorry

Hm. I feel like the water's evolution has potential to be an EPIC POLAR BEAR. The grass one is cool for a stage 1, and the fire pig is cute, and I think its evolutions have potential too. These starters actually exceeded expectations for me. However, one thing I have to say is that the new Pokemon are starting to look less like Pokemon - more like Neopets... But still. Pokemon's been running on forever.

-sigh- For those of you who are saying the water one's a polar bear, you're wrong.

It's all too clearly an otter.(hence the shell...) Also, I LIKE the water one. The grass one looks like cyndaquil and treecko had a snotty, pretentious baby. And the fire one looks like bidoof. 'nuff said.

I think they could have done a better job on the water pokemon but I like the other 2 :)

I've got to say, the Water-type starter would remain ugly even if there were no other Pokemon to compare it to. It looks absurd with its white spotty face and red nose, and the stupid shell set into its chest.

I think the Grass-type starter looks pretty cool, and the little Fire-type looks cute. But the Water-type... just no. Not that one. It's horrible.

Issue! Really! The name basically spells it out. Issue! I hope the starters evolve into cooler formes. Other than that I think the graphics r cool! :3

I like the Otter starter (water), he looks cool. But not as cool as the Snake starter(grass).
