Pokemon Black and White Versions Teaser[permalink]

Over at the Japanese Pokemon Website a teaser trailer has been launched for Pokemon Black and White Versions. There isn't much else in the way of info for right now, but it appears we can expect more info next Thursday, April 15th. For now, all we have is the promise that the franchise will be completely reborn with these new games.
Mildly excited, still rocking the SoulSilver so I've got plenty of time to wait for Black/White. Also, more excited about the console that they will be released on; hopefully it won't be some 3D nonsense that's rumored...
I'm busy with Heart Gold as well but still, I'm pretty excited about the new generation! I like the names of the new games. It has been build up from plain colours to metals and on... but now we return to basic black and white. It's safe to say that I have high expectations to the future generation.
I've had my SoulSilver team on full training for a few weeks so I'm set for a while. I dont know how I feel about the being reborn part... Hopefully a wii pokemon is on the way.
yeah what's that all about? Isn't Black & White an all new generation? I mean, the colours are back to basics compared with the other generations' names but the games are completely new right?
i think it's reborn in the sense of revitalized. with HGSS, they tied Gen I-IV together and shut off all loose ends, so I think in Gen V it's going to be all new everything with no or limited compatibility.
They can't start a new set of generations! 3: It MUST have to be compatible with the other previous games in gens III and IV, because then the national dex would end up being the global dex and that would make it too large and I just don't want it :<
I agree with whoever said the limited or no compatibility thing. whenever they add new pokemon, it causes limited or no compatibility. I'm betting you can still play the games on the DS's that everyone has right now, but you would have trouble trading to the previous generations cuz there will be brand new moves, pokemon, items, etc. Unless of course, they make the same kind of thing they had in Gold, Silver, Crystal with the whole time machine trading thing, which i really hated, but whatever.
I don't know why they can't just make a Pokemon game. Everytime they produce a new one, they're all like, "Look at the cool graphics. Look at the descriptive 8 page summery of each Pokemon." Why can't they just make a good old fashioned regular Pokemon game?
>I agree with whoever said the limited or no compatibility thing. whenever they add new pokemon, it causes limited or no compatibility.
Um, no? There was nothing limited or absent about compatibility between Gen I and II, and if you consider Pal Park "limited" I guess you're right but meh.
Gen V is not going to be cut off from Gen IV. They're on the same system. It would make absolutely no sense.
WHAT THE **** WHAT DO YOU MEAN A NEW CONSOLE? I AM GONG TO HAVE TO PAY LIKE 250 TO PLAY ANOTHER POKEMON GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they better not skrew with the gamplay like shown in ranger and mystery dungeon...
Meh... Wish they'd have put more thought into the titles (even Coal and Chalk would sound a bit more interesting)... Still, just to know that they've got official titles is more than enough to wet any fan's appetite... I just hope they don't try and go overboard like they did with Diamond and Pearl. Though they weren't rushed, there were some things that just seemed like they didn't have a real purpose in the game (some of the legendaries like Heatran, Regigigas, and even...dare I say it...Shaymin didn't have much of a connection to the actual Time-Space theme, or anything else for that matter). Hopefully, that won't be repeated too much in Gen V...
no its litterally a 3d ds, as in popping out of the screen, the 3ds is said to come out around the same time maybe earlier than pokemon white and black
i think Pokemon Black and White could have done better with the names. I mean "Black" and "White"? It's supposed to be a gemstone like "Emerald", "Ruby", "Gold" and "Diamond"
Me and another person I've met on another site agree that the version names are refering to Yin and Yang. You can even see it in the logo's themselves, as the black and white parts of them invert just like the YinYang symbol. So I have a feeling that the version mascots will also have a reference to Yin and Yang as well. But then again, it's only a theory.
well if it does have a dark/light theme, I wonder if they're going to add light type pokemon like they added dark and steel to Gold and Silver. I'm not sure if I'd like that though.
Frost looks like the smartest guy/gal posting, just sayin. Lol. I see nothing wrong with the names 'Black & White' going back to solid colours. Lol, "I wasn't aware that Gold was a gemstone." xD.
i saw the coro coro leaked scans on bulbanews and this game really looks great! since it appears to be a separate engine from dpp/hgss, and there is going to be a large number of new pokemon, i would imagine that there will be no compatibility with previous titles. also, new features i'm predicting in this game are added pokemon types, interactive battles (ie action commands for attacks and catching pokemon), and a fundamentally changed gym system. also i wouldn't be surprised if there are new evolution methods
You know, I do so hate to spoil everyone's angstfest over "BAWWW these official names are lame," but in case you haven't noticed, the "official" names aren't Black and White - they're in Japanese. I can't read it myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if Yin and Yang were just as likely names. We'll know more on Thursday.
Also, was it not confirmed a few months ago that these titles WILL be for the DS? I clearly recall reading that on several fansites (including this one, I think). Furthermore, people apparently haven't paid close attention to the few screen-shots/scans that have been released and posted elsewhere. They aren't that much different from the current DS games, just at different camera angles from what we've seen thus far in the series (frontal views instead of overhead on the overworld maps, and behind the back for the in-battle stuff plus some better background details).
Obviously, the people who are complaining about the names forgot that the games that started the whole franchise were named after colors. Can't wait to find out the English names also.
@DarkAriados that would probably be worse than Black and White XD!!! they probably will change the name, just like they changed the slots to *shudders* "voltorb flip"
@shushu i know, but would anyone sue them for blue? i think not!
@Jigglypuff I've been struggling a bit with a translation using word and google but i haven't been able to find out the large title. The large title says: Pokettomososuta. The first small title is indeed: Black, and the second translate into: White.
And in the end of the teaser it says in the bottom right corner: Nintendo DS, and I don't mean the one written in english but in the video window written en japanese (I haven't been able to translate the signs right before the ":" mark, sorry)
sorry for doubleposting but I finally found the translation for the rest. the large title is (of course) "Pocket Monsters". And the corner text is "Hardware: Nintend-DS"... or that's what I get from google search and translation. if anybody gets another result, please tell.
maybe by making games with color names they will completely get rid of all pokemon and hav new ones so it would technically be like a start of new pokemon game series and only one gen
i doubt that they would start over from scratch and get rid of all the pokemon. i mean pokemon has been around for ten plus years and i dont know any company that would go back to the drawing board just for fun. oh and since when did black stop being a color and start being a racial term. asians didnt freakout about pokemon yellow. its the most insane thing ive ever heard
The names are "Black" and "White". The characters you see are the Japanese alphabet that is used for loan words. (ie "Poketto Monsutaa" is "Pocket Monsters" - English words represented in a Japanese alphabet) In Japanese you would pronounce it "burakku" and "howaito", but they are still the English words "black" and "white".
Whether or not they will be changed for the American (etc) releases is a different story.
HTH
Oh, and it also says it will be released on the Nintendo DS.
Okay, people! They ARE NOT going to restart the series just because they're coming out with games named after colors! The only reason there was a generational gap between the second and third games was because the GBA tech was a lot different from what the original GameBoy systems had, and thus the older games were incompatable with the Ruby/Sapphire ones and everything from then on. Unlike those, the DS system and games were all designed to utilize the backward compatability of the DS and DS Lite systems. Though I doubt they'll make it so you can still use the GBA port to bring in creatures from the RSE/FRLG games, it's a sure bet that they'll make it so you can trade in Pokemon from the DP series (even if it has the restrictions of the Time Capsule from the GSC games).
The reason Gen II and Gen III were cut off from each other is that stuff in the Pokemon games themselves had changed too much. It had nothing to do with the system because the GBA was capable of playing GBC games.
However, from a business standpoint, it would make absolutely zero sense for Gamefreak to cutoff backward compatibility between Gen IV and Gen V because they're actually ON the same system. People need to stop freaking out. If Gen V were 3DS-exclusive (and it's not), then you could worry about them "rebooting" the series again, but chances are they are not.
I wish they would not make another generation and whole new land. They should make a game where you start in Kanto and go through all the other lands. But still, I'm pretty excited for it. I like how they returned to basic titles.
Refinnei I agree with you, it would be sweet, but they would have to change the leveling system or something because by the time you go through kanto your pokemon are what level 40 at least. Then jhoto they will have to buff em up so it isnt like restarting, and so on and so forth by the time you reach sinnoh the gym leaders have level 80's and junk. Sounds challanging but too easy to get to level 100 don't you agree?
Sorry, I should clarify - when I said "no 3D", I meant none of that rubbish with the silly glasses and the fake depth perception, like in the movie Avatar. That gives me crazy headaches... I know the graphics already have 3D perspective, but it isn't the kind that makes my head hurt.
...I like the names Yin and Yang. It's about time they broke the tradition of naming the games after precious substances... it'd only be a matter of time until they ran out of good names.
Just for argument's sake "i dont know any company that would go back to the drawing board just for fun" -Dusknoir94 Final Fantasy's done it 14 times now. Same general stuff, but each game has been increasingly different in almost every way. However, I have no doubt they wouldn't. Frost is completely right, it makes NO business sense.
As far as the 3DS, maybe it'll have nicer graphics and more options on the 3DS, but will still be playable on the DS/i. And if you look at the screenshot with the full view of Zoroark's back, Maybe this means battling will be completely different. New animations (duh), new battle engine (maybe live-action fighting?).
Finally back to the cloros :). It's safe to say I have some high hopes for Black and White. It is gonna be 3D (but nothing more fancier than HGSS). And there will be cars :D
I just wanna see some starters and the specific legendary for the game before I decide which copy to pre-order ;)
On other sites, "completly reborn" means that they are taking the whole 3D thing waaay too far. Not popping out of the screen 3D, but even better graphics for the cities
I like the graphics but man what will all the new pokemon look like? Guess pretty stupid.Original pokemons like 1-252 and maybe Gen III. But Gen IV pokemons lookd like some freaks. I hope they have great ideas for new Gen V.
