Generation V confirmed and its first Pokemon revealed![permalink]

Earlier this week, GameFreak officially announced that the next set of Pokemon games were coming to Japan this fall on the Nintendo DS. Also, today on Pokemon Sunday, GameFreak director Junichi Masuda revealed the silhouette of the first Pokemon from the new set of games. It is currently nameless, but it will be important to the plot of the upcoming 13th movie, and will also be fully revealed on Pokemon Sunday in two weeks.
Preempting the announcement next Sunday, however, scans of the March 2010's Corocoro magazine have been leaked, revealing the new Pokemon, Zoroark, and its pre-evolution, Zorua. They are pure Dark-type fox Pokemon:
same here guys really hoping its going to be sick, kinda want to see something different tho, a whole new pokemon, but it does look like an evolution of Lucario.
SO FREAKING STOKED FOR THE NEXT GAME!!!!! (however I could care less about about the anime or tgc) o I don't think they are going to evolve lucario because they already made a movie about him, it would be just as likely be a darkri or lugia evolution ! it will be something new.
I'm thinking if the new games will be DSi enhanced, just at least to continue the trend of a new console for each generation. This is really exciting, and I'm expecting loads of new things but not really changing the formula.
If they make it for DSi, they should make an online mode, something like you would see in WoW or EverQuest. Granted, it probably woudn't be as big of a section in the game, it would still be neat. It would be another great way to train your pokemon after you beat the game.
(hoping the next generation will be 10x better than generation IV! *crossing fingers*)
Im so excited about the 5th generation though im starting to wonder what they are going to come up with. I just dont want half of the new guys to just be evolutions of other generations because thats not as fun. But i have faith that they wont disapoint!
Obviously I hope they make an evolution for Grumpig, but I'm just a fan of that family =) I have faith they'll come up with some neat ones, I just wonder what they'll do stat-wise. I mean, pretty much every possible combination's been made, and every category has been dominated. Will there be a new Blissey? Will Wobbuffet be outclassed? Who will the new Dragon family be? On that note, I wonder what they'll do with legendaries. I mean, they've made GOD! What's left for the legends?
How the heck are they going to ramp up the plot!? They've given the plots more magnitude in each new generation. But they've already made a plot revolving around the Creators of the Universe...
Wow. 5 generations of Pokemon, huh. Thats a lot so, how many are there going to be 500? 600? 1000? 1,000,000? THIS IS GETTING INSANE!!!! I am just going to get SoulSilver, and not buy gen 5. At all. They need to think. Isn't one of the points of the game to get all the pokemon. Well, how can they do that, if they keep making more. In Diamond i am almost done, and then they do this. I also agree with DarkAriados. How can they tamp up the plot. And yes rapid spoink, you're right, what is left for legends. Its just too much. People just cheat to beat the game. No one plays. I know people will argue say more pokemon = more fun. How is cheating and doing absolutly nothing FUN??? So friends, trainers, pokedex completers, this is the end. Farewell. I know a lot of people will give up as I will. And Pokemon, as we knew it. Rest in peace old buddy. We'll miss ya. In memoriam of Red and Blue, the first and best.
I'm still wondering where this notion of "DS Lite Games" and "DSi Games" is coming from. A Nintendo DS plays Nintendo DS games. It's not like the Gameboy and the Gameboy Color....
I hope Generation V gives us more types they overlooked. For example a Grass/Electric type? The new Pok?mon looks like a Dark type though, with a byped wolf appearence.
For the first time ever, I am actually expecting them to change things up with this generation. Like big time. I think they closed a chapter in Pokemon history w/ HG/SS. You can explore almost every region on DS now and get nearly every Pokemon. I don't think these new games will be compatible with old ones.
I'm lookig forward to the new generation of games but I also hope they don't gave you anymore useless Pokemon (won't name names but some of those Pokemon from Genereation 3 &4 I could've do without).
All I'm asking for is a Skarmory (or an evolve stage) that knows how to do Mirror Move or Mirror Coat and an evolve stage for Torkoal.
Also make Nintnedo Events be over the net instead of having to go at a "special place" to get it. Everyone has internet connections these days.
And please don't gave Porygon or Eevee any more stages.
i cant wiat to see the starters! they relesed the starters last time with munchlax and bonsly right?(besides the cameo in XD). PS i disagree with not having any more eevees, Im hoping for DRAGON and GHOST types. Oh and i just thought of some ledgendary themes, lucky and unlucky, and then the one that roams the region could be wind.
A Dragon and Ghost Eevee evolution would be nice Dusknoir94, but a Wind legendary? What about Rayquaza? The Sky High Pok?mon? I think a Dragon living in a Sky Temple is good enough for a Wind legendary.
good point i forgot about rayquaza. a pokemon that controls the seasons would be cool and nintndo could make a good plot with it. imagine team rocket making another ice age.
That's a really good point. dunspace looks like a little worm and deserves an evolutionary stage. Other single stagers deserve one too, like Tropius :) P.S. I don't cheat either.
^ whats a list of ones that could use male/female counterparts or split evolutions?
An evolution like this would be a twist.
Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are different, when bread they produce either Pokemon X Y or Z which is different and its own seperate evolution line and such... Like Manaphy and ditto make Phione.
IDK if any body saw this but in platinum when you buy a houseplant for your villa, Gardenia walks in saying she smelled the new plants. she says that she doesnt like Ghost pokemon and wonders if she could make an exception if it was GRASS-GHOST type. could this be a hint to the new stater type or legendary type?
Steel-Ghost hasent been done before has it? And who else would think mixing weakness types like fire and water or grass and fire etc would be a final frontier?
To put it basically I'm not excited. I'm glad to see gold and silver re-released but i think this may just be to soon and it just brings up the backwards compatibility problem all over again since they wont make an up date for 4th generations to except these new pokemon into the games
LOL. i hope that it won't be only evolutions or pre-evolutions of previous pokemons... it's true the new pokemons looks kinda familiar... and by the way; i do not cheat either, if you cheat the fun is gone...
Agreed electivire, there's nothing I hate more than ugly evolutions (I'm looking at you, Magmortar) and unneeded ones (*cough* Rhyperior.) We don't need any more baby Pokemon... let's get some creative new Pokemon for once. How about an electric-type that isn't uber-frail for once?
"What Backwards compatibility problem" --Frost The Problem of which i was referring to was the inability to trade new pokemon to old versions as well as new moves. has This problem has been around since Gold and Silver (hence the time machine allowing only certain pokemon).
I think that they'll most likely never stop making Pokemon games as long as they are popular among video game buyers. I think they should make something like 5 more pokemon types so they can SOMEHOW create better pokemon. and I think that eevee still needs more evolutions( but that's just because I love eevee :D
Dark-psychic-fighiting starter scenario? Are starters going to be 2 stages instead of three now? Probably neither is true... Well, I do love pure Dark types, so I approve of these pokemon.
I'm a Dragon fanatic, and would love a Fire-Dragon type, 3 Stage evo. I really like *umbreon rules*' idea; mates and I have discussed that too! Also, a proper Water-Poison evo would be great! And, if it has to be, that can involve Qwilfish.....only if Qwilfish is stage 1!
The starter combo can't be Dark-Psychic-Fighting, because that includes an immunity (Psychic attacks don't affect Dark-type Pokemon). Surely an immunity among the starters is out of the question.
What about Fire-Rock-Steel? There are no immunities there (well, not to each other), and it's the same triangle as Fire-Water-Grass.
OMG no they should not not do this i mean i love pokemon unconditionally but more than 500 what is this digimon its lik theyre taking away from the core of the game i think it was "gotta catch em all" well with these many how are you supposed 2 do that its jus agravating
haha yeh emerald master blaziken is kool isnt it. yeh i guess 3 types would get kinda confusing. They should make like a better version of sableye or spiratomb, maybe one that evolves?
sableye and his kool diamond eyes. i would have sableye in my party but he isnt the greatest, kool type combo though. i still wonder what they are going to do for legendaries?
I think Eevee could do with more evolutions, too. If every single Pokemon type represented an Eeveelution (except Normal, since Eevee itself is a Normal-type), then: the Flying-type would represent an evolution to suit the sky, the Ground-type would suit a subterranean habitat, the Rock-type would suit rugged mountains, the Poison-type would suit polluted environments, the Steel-type would suit an industrial landscape, and the Ghost-type would suit the afterworld. The Fighting-type might suit a life on the streets in a big city. I don't think the Bug or Dragon types really suit anything, and if there weren't already Eeveelutions for the Psychic and Dark types, I'd say they don't really make any sense either.
I'll still end up playing Gen V, but this is getting ridiculous. There's just no feasible way to "catch 'em all" with so darn many to catch. It might be time to do a game where everything is new- make a clean break with the old series and have completely new pokemon in a completely new pokedex. I don't see how they can find any way for the player to complete their pokedex with no way to get so many pokemon from other versions, especially legendaries. HG/SS are packed to the gills with legendaries from other versions to allow for a complete pokedex. It's getting out of control.
Why don't they just make it a bit easier to catch all the pokemon in a game. like now you can't actually catch them all in one game. so wouldn't it be easier to make them all in a game. and for those wi-fi events that are only in certain countries make it virtually impossible to get them all. Damaia if you think it will be too hard to catch all the pokemon in future generations they why don't you just not catch them all. there's a lot of other things to do.
I'm glad they revealed fifth generation Pokemon, but I can't say I'm too fond of Zoroark... Zorua I like because it's cute, but Zoroark's design is just plain ugly... In any case, I don't see why people think that these next games won't have some kind of compatability with the 4th gen's. Also, what's the point of creature-capture if you don't get more creatures to capture? That would defeat the basis of the series altogether, wouldn't it?
Never said there wouldn't be compatibility I just said there would be problems like there was in Generation 2 trading to Generation 1 games. It gets really annoying after awhile having to go get moves deleted just to trade back to the prior generation.
Didn't think of it that way, but that's because I never played the first gen games nor did I have the link cable to trade via the Time Capsole (sp?) method... Still, the only issue I'd really see is if they established something on the lines of Pal Park in the fifth gen games. I hate having to get rid of HM moves in the third gen games only to reteach in the fourth gen ones.
From my understanding, it all had to do with how the programming had been altered so that Dive wouldn't register as an HM move in the fourth gen games. But, even so, I don't get why this was an issue. The move still exists after all, just not as something important to the gameplay as in the third gen.
HOLY MILTANK, this thing has the most posts ive ever seen! Yeah i wish they would bring back dive as an HM again. And while i was sitting here i thought of someting fishing should be a mini game with your character on the top screen and the lake or whatever on the bottom then you'd have to do some pokemon ranger like thing to get it.
.....and why should mineing for treasure get a minigame and fishing doesnt, can you imagine an underground where all you had to do was tap A to get a fossil. BORING!
Yeah... I think they captured fossil hunting a little too well in Diamond and Pearl... Most of the time I don't even get fossils or anything useful, just orbs... Fishing I actually like, both in the games and real life. So, I agree wholeheartedly that we need some kind of fishing minigame. Even The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess incorporated it and quite well too.
Personally, I would like to see something for the DS that's a breeding game. Like, it would have all the pokemon and you could take care of them rather than battle. They could incorporate pokemon contests in there too. They always talk about pokemon breeders in the anime, but you can never play one in the game.
Mmm... Wasn't that Pokemon Ranch for WiiWare? I don't know... I only just got a Wii this past Christmas, and I don't the type of internet connection to get onto Nintendo Wi-fi or anything.
@swift13: if you think this is bad, wait until they actually do announce the official starters!
i think they need to eventually change the whole fire-water-grass starter thing. And i think they need more electric combo types. Lanturn was kool so is magnezone but maybe like a electric-grass pokemon. personally i like electric pokemon but i don't like single typed pokemon on my team.
Mmm... Hate to burst a few bubbles, but I HIGHLY doubt they'll break the Fire-Grass-Water triangle and for one very critical reason: it's the most fundamental in the games and most renowned. Furthermore, anything else is harder for new players unfamiliar with the type match-ups to comprehend why they would work the way they do. It took me a few years to figure out that there were other triangles like Dark-Psychic-Fighting, and even long to rationalize why it was that way.
In any case, I'm hoping for some kind of Dark and Psychic dual-types. I came up with some of my own, but Fakemon don't get very far outside the realms of fan fiction and fan art.
They haven't already ??? I think they already did that being there is currently 32 I can think of.
Silver of the Soul(25 Feb 2010 at 1:33pm PST)Reply
Ya know, I think that this is what they should do. Keep making the games and keep making remakes. Next up after gen V comes out, id hvaer magma ruby and aqua saphire. ya be cool. and ya dont over do legendaries.
That pokemon looks....ugh i cant even say it, but i no likey....it does look like a form of lucario just different colors for those who said it....as far as the other 'new' pocket monsters i dont think they will come up with anything 'new' cuz there all taken. These new ones will probably look like a cross fuse of digimon, yugioh, and a little of pokemon......But its always fun to have more...time 2 lurk in the shadows of the valley of death for them Silver/Gold remakes to come out...hehehe : )
There are lots of ideas that that could use. just off the top of my head cheeta, fly, centipede, polar bear, moose, lion, elephant, griffin, panda, dove, duck, buffalo or dolphin. now some plants. pumpkin, all sorts of trees and weeds the possibillities are endless when you think of all the species of plants and animals.
yeah i guess you do have a point. it would get kinda troublesom for new players to figure out type advantages/weaknesses in a different starter trio. something like a steel-rock-fire could be confusing. i still think they should make cooler starter type combos. i usually am quite fond of starter pokemon because they have good stats and look kinda kool usually. but i really don't wanna use one whole slot on my team for just a water/grass/fire pokemon. fire-fighting starter combos were kool but they did that , twice. empoleon, torterra, and charizard were good to.
i hope that they make shinies easier to catch and not like the chaining but raise the rate of appearence. siriously why program all the varient colors if only .01 percent of people ever see them.
Why is this not on pokemon.com its been out for a while now. they could reveal a pokemon every sunday and that would get lots of people to visit the site, its simple business sense
@Dusknoir94: Pokemon.com is the Official ENGLISH site. This news was supposed to be isolated to Japan, but fansites thrive on the fact that Japanese fans leak information like this basically "under the radar." Besides, you'll see announcements there of the fifth gen games later this year anyhow, particularly around or after the Japanese releases of the games.
I think catching all of the Pokemon has become a fading reality. I mean in Generation 1, there was 151. So yea, you had to trade with Red/Blue, but it was still simple.
Here are some things I'd like to see in Gen 5:
1)Weezing should evolve into Choking or something. 2) Shiny PKMN should be easier to find. 3)Wobbufett should learn ATTACKS!!!! 4) The return of Team Rocket! Including Jessie/James. 5)Better looking Pokemon, not the ugly ones like Exploud. 6) Please, no more Battle Frontier! 7) Catching all(Or close to) the PKMN!
They have GOTTA lose that, but there is no target crap. Like when there's no one left on the other side in a double battle, you other guy will attack and it says, but there is no target.... WTF?
it was horrible in other versions(such as platinum).read this so you can understand what i?m saying. 1)not all pokemon can be obtained(sure, i have arceus in pokedex and shiney) 2)i hate ribbons and contests 3)you cannot obtain other 1st pokemon of region instead of the one you choose at first 4)only one master ball, please!! 5)you can?t battle prof. rowan 6)capture last evolutions ...7)in name of god...I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW TO CAPTURE SHINEY PKMN!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMFG u dont know how to capture shinies? get out....get out now......if i ever see u in wifi battle i will kill (not knock out....KILL) ur biotch ass.....noob!.....lol : P
Pokemon has gone from "Gotta catch em all" to catch em if you can! Generation V hopefully will be easier to find all 5--! Like in HG/SS, both Luiga and Ho-oh can both be obtained.
You know what they should do, instead of re-releasing pokemon games (not that i dont like them HGSS is sweeet!) the expansion games like yellow, crystal, emerald, and platinum you should be able to go to that generations region so gen 5 could visit hoenn. like how HGSS goes back to kanto. but that wont happen because they make so much money off the remakes
personally, i think they should allow for a party of more than 6 pokemon now, keep the fire water grass starters, and definitely bring in a better benchmark for the stats of poison, grass, and those other "weaker" types of pokemon, let's face it. the strongest (and most popular) types are dragon fire water psychic electric and ice. im sure there are personal opinions against mine, but im finding that in every game, im just getting the same types in my party, just different named pokemon :/
I for one think they should have stopped adding new generations of games to the Pokemon franchise at HGSS, because well now we can collect and use all 493 current Pokemon in one all-inclusive game, but now, with Gen V coming up, some people who have been playing since RBY and played all the way up to HGSS will feel as if the next gen is going to be made up of cute little pokemon and a meaningless plot. I think they should have stopped at Platinum, because that seemed to be the all-inclusive game, but it's too late for thinking that anymore. Also, I agree with the other users who said that they better not make the legendaries overdone. They kind of already did, since Dialga, Palkia, Arceus, etc. I would actually prefer just trading with my Blue version and Gold version back and forth to get the perfect team in gold, because that was and is my favorite Pokemon game so far. But really, they should just make Zorua an event for HGSS and/or DPP and let that be the end of it.
