On exiting the Dragon's Den, Prof Elm will congratulate you by phone and ask you to drop by his lab. But now that you have all seven HMs, you'll be able to go anywhere you want in Johto. Check out Mt Mortar, Whirl Islands, Dark Cave and Union Cave if you haven't already done so. Most importantly, return to Prof Elm in New Bark Town, and he'll give you a Master Ball, which has a 100% capture rate. You should explore routes 45 and 46 to pick up some items and experience rather than Fly.

You're now ready to take on the Elite Four challenge. Equip yourself for a long journey, and take along a Pokemon that knows Surf, Waterfall, Whirlpool and Strength (Water Pokemon like Gyarados or Azumarill can have all four). Surf east of New Bark Town, and you've officially crossed the border between Johto and Kanto.

Once you've hit land, go east a bit then Surf on the body of water to the south to get a Rare Candy. Now enter the cave. To the left of the waterfall is a very valuable Moon Stone. The lady in the house outside will give you TM37 - Sandstorm if your Pokemon trust you very much. The path from here is quite easy, simply head east as far as you can, then north. Near where the bridge starts to go north, surf southwest to find a Whirlpool where you can pick up an item ball containing TM22 - Solarbeam, the most powerful Grass-type move.

You'll eventually come across a needed rest house. Your Pokemon should be around lv50 here, and it's a good place to train if they aren't. To the west of this house, you'll find the home of the Once-A-Week Siblings, where Monica has written a note telling you the whereabouts of each sibling. Useful, but you should have met them all if you've followed this walkthrough. Continue north until you reach a large building, grabbing a Max Elixir along the way.

Head straight for the double doors at the end of the hallway and you'll enter a cave... just like RBY, it's Victory Road minus the switches. If you look carefully, you can see some similiarities in layout. On entering, check the lone rock to the left for a Full Heal, and head up the platform. At the fork, going right takes you to another Full Heal and a Max Revive. Left takes you to the next level.

Follow the platform around and grab the X Special before continuing east then north to the ladder. In this new level, you can follow the platform right round and drop down the ladder to get a Full Restore, or you can head around and go all the way west to find a hole in the floor. Drop down to get TM26 - Earthquake (and a hidden Max Potion). But whatever the case, the exit is just to the north, but be careful, your rival will appear and challenge you to another battle. He'll have rather weak Pokemon, so the battle should just be very routine. He has a lv34 Sneasel, a lv35 Kadabra, a lv36 Golbat, a lv35 Magneton, a lv35 Haunter and a lv38 fully evolved starter. Head through the cave exit, and through the double doors of the Indigo Plateau.

Indigo Plateau

It's time for the toughest battles at the Indigo Plateau. You will face 5 of the best trainers in the game one after the other. While you have time to save and use items, you won't be able to go to a Pokemon Center. Should you lose, you'll start from the first trainer. Some handy tips to avoid whitewash: Have your Pokemon at bare minimum, level 50. Deposit all your money with Mom so that you won't lose any if you faint. Stock up on Full Restores, Revives and Full Heals. If you're having trouble, train some more at Victory Road. Finally, if you have to return to New Bark Town, or any other town for that matter, the guy on the left wall will Teleport you back. Are you ready? Head up the stairs at the far right. To make it easy on yourself, you should have a Dark type, a Psychic type, an Ice type (Or a Water type with Ice moves) and a Fighting type. Round your team off with good elemental moves like Surf, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam and Flamethrower.

The Elite Four

Will Elite Four: Will
Speciality: Psychic
Xatu Quick Attack Level 40 Psychic/Flying
Confuse Ray
Future Sight
Psychic
Exeggutor Reflect Level 41 Grass/Psychic

Psychic
Jynx Doubleslap Level 41 Ice/Psychic
Lovely Kiss
Ice Punch
Psychic
Slowbro Curse Level 41 Water/Psychic
Amnesia
Body Slam
Psychic
Xatu Quick Attack Level 41 Psychic/Flying
Confuse Ray
Future Sight
Psychic
If you don't have a Ghost or Dark Pokemon, the key is to take advantage of their secondary types. Use Fire attacks for Exeggutor and Jynx, Electric attacks for Slowbro and Xatu. The only real threat is Xatu's Confuse Ray and Jynx's Lovely Kiss, but these are easily remedied if you've stocked up well. Slowbro can be difficult to take down if it gets to use Curse and Amnesia.

Koga Elite Four: Koga
Speciality: Bug and Poison
Ariados Double Team Level 40 Bug/Poison
Spider Web
Baton Pass
Giga Drain
Forretress Protect Level 43 Bug/Steel

Venomoth Supersonic Level 41 Bug/Poison
Gust
Psychic
Toxic
Crobat Double Team Level 44 Poison/Flying
Quick Attack
Wing Attack
Toxic
Shouldn't be too difficult, but the main thing here is Toxic. Koga's strategy will be to set up Spikes with Forretress, then attempt to Toxic your Pokemon while using evade-increasing moves to prevent damage. If you don't take out his Pokemon quickly, this battle will become increasing tougher. A Psychic type will sweep through the Poison Pokemon, while a simple Flamethrower will dispose of Forretress.

Bruno Elite Four: Bruno
Speciality: Rock and Fighting
Hitmontop Pursuit Level 42 Fighting
Quick Attack
Detect
Dig
Hitmonchan Ice Punch Level 42 Fighting
Thunderpunch
Fire Punch

Double Kick
Hi Jump Kick
Foresight
Onix Bind Level 43 Rock/Ground
Earthquake
Sandstorm
Rock Slide
Machamp Rock Slide Level 46 Fighting
Foresight
Vital Throw
Cross Chop
Should be a very easy battle if you have a Psychic or Ghost Pokemon. If not, try a Flying type, but be careful of Machamp's Rock Slide. Onix is 4x weak to Grass and Water, so shouldn't pose any threat. Hitmonchan's elemental punches may seem daunting, but it lacks the special attack to really cause severe damage.

Karen Elite Four: Karen
Speciality: Dark and Poison
Umbreon Sand-Attack Level 42 Dark
Confuse Ray

Faint Attack

Gengar Lick Level 45 Ghost/Poison
Spite

Houndoom Roar Level 47 Fire/Dark
Pursuit
Flamethrower
Crunch
You'll really want something powerful to take care of Umbreon. With its high defense and special defense, as well as Sand-Attack, Mean Look and Confuse Ray (lucky she didn't give it Moonlight), Umbreon will be your toughest opponent yet. Try status ailments and strong attacks, and switch out if you need to. The remaining Pokemon can be easily taken care of with elemental attacks.

Lance Champion: Lance
Speciality: Dragon and Flying
Gyarados Flail Level 44 Water/Flying

Hyper Beam
Although everyone in the game talks about the almighty powerful Lance, he isn't that powerful at all. Five of his Pokemon have a 4x weakness, and it's to your advantage to use them. a strong Thunderbolt will OHKO Gyarados, while Ice Beam will take care of the three Dragonite. Charizard and Aerodactyl can be taken care of by Water or Electric attacks. Keep your HP high because Hyper Beam will cause a lot of damage.

And congratulations! You've beaten the Elite Four, and after some pleasantries, Lance will take you to the back room where your Pokemon will go down in the records forever. But the game isn't over yet... after the credits roll, choose to continue your game, and you'll be able to go on a whole new adventure.
