POKEMON GOLD AND SILVER WALKTHROUGH
Fuchsia City
From Celadon City, head west to Cycling Road. The guard won't let you through unless you have the bicycle from Goldenrod City. At the bottom, head east to Fuchsia City. You'll notice that the Safari Zone is closed, and that the route to Seafoam Islands to the south is under construction. You can use Cut to get to the PokeMart, otherwise, there's nothing else to do around here.
Fuchsia City Gym
Janine, Koga's daughter, has heaps of decoys around the place. She's the one on the left side of the screen when you enter. You'll also see that there are 'invisible' walls around the place, making Fuchsia Gym quite annoying. Simply stick close to the boundaries of the gym, and walk right around to get to Janine.
When you win, you'll receive the Soul Badge as well as TM06 - Toxic. Head east out of Fuchsia City, and bring along someone with Surf and Cut.
Lavender Town
The path from Fuchsia City to Lavender Town is straightforward, but littered with many trainers. You can also get some good items along the way, including a PP Up, a Calcium. You should have stopped by the fisherman's house to get the best rod, a Super Rod. Eventually you'll reach Lavender Town, which has been transformed from a graveyard village to a more lively radio town. The Pokemon Nickname rater is still there, as well as Mr Fuji, but you'll want to head to the tall tower in town and speak to the gentleman standing next to the tables. He'll tell you that there's something wrong with the Power Plant, so prepare for a long journey through Rock Tunnel.
You'll need HM05 - Flash to get through. While the path is not very confusing, there will be a considerable number of Pokemon battles to get through. If you have little patience, use a Repel to get through. Rock Tunnel is the only place you can catch a wild Kangaskhan, and it isn't very common either. Along the way, look for an Elixir, TM47 - Steel Wing, PP Up, Revive, Iron, and a whole more hidden items. You'll emerge right outside a Pokemon Center, so heal up, and grab someone with Surf.
Cerulean City
From the Rock Tunnel Pokemon Center, head north until you find some water. Surf right around the canal until you reach a large building - this is the Power Plant. Go right inside and talk to the Manager, who is standing by the generators. He'll tell you that it's been ruined, and on your way out, you'll be asked to help. Follow the guard's advice to Cerulean City, which is directly west of the Rock Tunnel Pokemon Center. If you're lazy and don't feel you need the experience, simply Fly to Saffron City and head north.
The only real thing in Cerulean City is the gym, so head there and you'll run into a Rocket member who's missing a few brain cells. He'll babble on aimlessly and then run off. He's actually stolen the a part needed to fix the Power Plant generator, so check the middle of the Cerulean Gym where the bridge complete encloses a square of four tiles, and you'll receive a Machine Part. Head north onto Nugget Bridge where you'll find the Rocket. Talk to him and you'll battle (He's only got a Golbat). He'll reveal the location of the Machine Part, but you should already have it. Don't return it to the Power Plant just yet, continue north to the end of the bridge.
If you Surf down the water, you'll eventually see a boy standing in someone's backyard (If you talked to him before, he's the one who said his Itemfinder was responding). Immediately to the left of him, hidden in the corner of the cliff is a Berserk Gene. From the bridge, head east and you'll fight seven trainers - talk to the eighth person you see and he'll give you a Nugget, then will battle you. (The item behind the Cut bush is a Protein). Continue onwards and you'll see Misty, who will agree to fight you back at the Cerulean Gym. The house you're standing outside is home to Bill's Grandfather, who will give you evolution stones if you show him a certain Pokemon. Check out the FAQs for more information. In the mean time, head back to Cerulean Gym.
Cerulean City Gym
Misty's trainers will have now filled the gym, but your real goal is the girl at the back.
When you win, you'll receive the Cascade Badge. It's time to return to the Power Plant with the Machine Part.
Restoring Power
Talk to the Manager and he'll thank you with TM07 - Zap Cannon. With the power back, there's some things that need to be done. First of all, Fly to Lavender Town and talk to the Radio Tower manager (They guy by the tables) to get an Expn Card, which lets you tune into the Kanto Radio Stations.
Secondly, Fly to Saffron City and visit the CopyCat (She's in the house south of the Magnet Train station). She'll tell you that she's lost her favourite Pokedoll, so go to the Vermilion City Pokemon Fanclub to retrieve it (It's that Clefairy Doll). She'll thank you with a Pass, which lets you use the Magnet Train at any time! The Magnet Train will take you between Saffron City in Kanto to Goldenrod City in Johto - it's a lot more convenient than the SS Aqua.
Finally, head to Snorlax east of Vermilion City. Equip yourself with a few Ultra Balls (Or Heavy Balls) and tune your Pokegear's Radio to a frequency of 20 - the PokeFlute. Walk up to Snorlax, examine it, and it will attack you.
Snorlax
Snorlax, a Normal type, is one of the most powerful Pokemon in GSC. With its ridiculously high HP, Attack and Special Defense, as well as a huge move pool, Snorlax became a powerhouse with moves like Curse and Belly Drum to maximise its attack, as well as Return, Double-edge and Body Slam to cause severe damage with STAB. |
If you don't catch it, at least use Thief to grab the Leftovers attached to Snorlax. The cave behind it is Diglett's Cave, and this leads to Pewter City. Bring along someone with Cut, and traverse the underground.
Pewter City
On exiting, head east and north to get a Carbos, then visit the house to the south to get a Nugget. Just north of here is Pewter City, and you'll have to use Cut to get through. Find the man walking around to the right of the PokeMart. He'll give you a Silver Wing if you're playing Pokemon Gold, or a Rainbow Wing if you're playing Pokemon Silver. While Pewter City's Museum is closed for renovations, the Gym is always open.
Pewter City Gym
When you win, you'll receive the Boulder Badge. Exit the gym and head east.
