Okay people, I'm getting tired of Mssingno posts from people who don't know missingno. I am the authority, here at least, on missingno. So, when looking, refer here for the facts, ask questions that aren't answered here here. Note: When I have finished the chronicles I will add my experiment log, okay?

LINGO:
M=#'M#
"M=#'M#
M block=#"M#
Sunnytown=Glitch City
Cinnebar Coast: The half-ground/half-water eastern coast on cinnebar
#=Glitched Block
$=Pokebucks
$$=Canadian bucks
Mew Trick=The Gambler+Whoever trick
Mew Glitch=The Gambler+Whoever trick
Glitch Mew=The glitch discovered by me

True/false

Chapter 1: Origin
Okay, as you know, missingno is a glitch pokemon. There are rumors floating around that he is the removed Mew, that he is a sick programmers joke, that he is a secret hidden part of the game, and that he is a Pokegod. These are all false. Missingno, and all his brothers (.4, A, Q, Poke, Pk Mn etc. plus the secondary star of this, #'M#) are there because of a mistake. When you start your game one of the variables is changed to (For the rest of this report say your name is, Yoh) Yoh, but when you ask the old man to show you the pokemon thingy (via the coffee question) it has to change the Yoh variable to OLD MAN, when it does this, it needs to put the Yoh variables somewhere, so it can retreive them later. Now, the mistake. GAMEFREAK decided to stash the Yoh variables in the pokemon slot (which pokemon appear), when the game reads this it will search for the HEX of Yoh, far past 151, the last one (not mew, he's 21, so I don't know who) it will pull out what is in the slot, Missingno. Why is it there? Because, the least numbers in a HEX bank they could have is 256, notice, 151 pokemon, and since they can't have blank slots, they put it in the missing number slots, hence the name, Missingno, or, Missing Number. So, since the variables of which pokemon show up can't change while the maps up, you don't have to worry about a Missingno attacking the old man. However, on Cinnebar Coast they decided the pokemon you'd run into there are the pokemon from the last patch of grass you were in, which is stored in memory, but remember what was stored in the grass section back by the Old Man, Yoh. We know what that equates, Missingnp. Thats why he's there. And, just to prove the Mew theory wrong, he is in the Japanese versions too, where Mew is present, there he is called Ketsuban, Japanese for Missing Number, and, another thing, even if he wasn't in the jap version, Mew is in the american versions! (Also, thanks Gryphlame for the hex clarification, I understand missingno, just not hex)

Chapter 2: Apearance
Okay, Missingno and M block come in Missingnos infamous form, the backwars pixel l, usually described to look to like a tetris peice. Theire are rumors it is merely scrambled sunnytown (since sunnytown is scrambled thats double scramble of fuschia), a scrambled you, and a scrambled loreli, personally, I just say it's scrambled pixels, not sure about the backwards L part though, thats currently under investigation. While 'M always comes in pixel form, a Missingno comes in 4 different forms, they are the pixel version, the ghost version, which has an interesting effect, a kabutops skeleton, and an aerodactyl skeleton. Ghost Missingnos special effect is that it claims the type of of the last pokemon you used in battle, eg, if you just fought rival with your venasaur, then fight ghost missingno, it'll be a grass posion knowing bulbasaurs starting moves. If you just defeated blaine with you charmeleon, it'll be a fire type nowing charmanders starting moves. It doesn't matter who you fight, but the last pokemon you used in battle it will mimic, their type and they're starting moves, from their first form, if its a mr mime it'll know mr mime moves, a staryu would know stryu moves, and a butterfree would know caterpie moves, got it? Great!

Chapter 3: Glitch City
Okay people, we're talkin sunnytown! Here's how you get there.

Ingredients:
-500 pokebucks
-Have made it to cinnebar
-Have a pokemon with surf
-Have a pokemon with fly
-A pokemon red, blue, or yellow game that saves (I beat t 3 times without saving once)
-a gameboy (duh)
-enough time to turn of your gameboy and spend a little while taking 500 steps

Recipe:
Fly to cinnebar with a pokemon that knows fly, and have a pokemon that knows surf, then go to the Safari Zone, walk in, get inside, wn you start your hunt DON'T TAKE ONE STEP. Try to leave, when he asks if you're leaving early, say no, do that again, then save. Restart your gameboy, try to leave, he won't ask you anything, keep walking and he'll ask if you want to go on a hunt, say no, leave. Then, fly to Cinnebar, surf on Cinnebar coast for 500 steps, it'll say, PA: Ding Dong. Your safari game is over. Then it'll teleport you back to the Safari zone gate, walk out and you'll be in sunnytown! Now, this is a very strange place, be careful and keep your sprite away from the sides at all times (don't go looking for them) Okay, you should see tracks, like those that down cycling road, above them, you should see a cave, DON'T GO THERE YET. Walk down a bit, you'll see the gym, or, as the wall says, the GYM GYM GYM GYM GYM... Now hat you've seen that go in the cave, you'll get stuck at the entrance, try to leave, it won't let you get off that spot, or into the cave. Press start, flash flood! The entire place'll fill with water. Tel one of your guys to surf, when he does, you'll surf! Now explore! It randomly grabs things from around the game and jumbles them up. There are other glitch citys, get them by doin this trick in routes, any route'll do, I think, I know citys won't, they jsut make you come out of some building in that city, and buildings I don't know, I NEVER remember to try this in a building, if you do, try this inaspecial buildings (any building, gyms, rootguard houses, ghost tower), and in the ghost tower, see if something different happens on different floors. I don't know if this one happens on all of them, but I did this, then went to victory road to see the one where you can't move and your guy is invisible, I battled a geodude, but when I beat him, it said I bet ###.4.4.4.4#A##LORELI.4.

Chapter 4: # 'M #
You knew it was coming and here it is! This is a special section on M block. Okay, here we go, M is a glitched pokemon a lot ie missingno. In fact, it is a glitched a missingno. A lot of people call it the evil missingno, missingnos brother, or missingnos evil brother. I just want to clarify something, while M is Missingnos brother, it is NOT evil, I'm trying to stress this as it is a very widely beleived rumor but is NOT true. Okay, so, why does M appear? Same as missingno, except, the letters in your name don't always equate missingno, sometimes, they hit a fluke and it will weild M blocks. Now that you know it doesn't always land on a missingno, we can move on, but I'll finish here first so just remember that. M does all the same things missingno does PLUS it will screw up your hall of fame. Missingno does that too, right? Well only to some extent, M will SCREW up your hall of fame, Missingnos not as extreme on that note.

Chapter 5: Glitch Pokemon
Okay, so, you know how your name won't just hit missingnos and Ms right? Well, sometimes, it hits pokemon! While your glitch poke will always be at least part lvl 80, your glitch pokemon can be any lvl and almost any pokemon. Every letter is assigned a hex equivalent, right? Well, those hexs do hit real pokemon. The 2nd, 4th, and 6th letter are for the lvl, and the 3rd, 5th, and 7th letters are for the pokemon, for example, yoh will weild lvl 80 'Ms, as every game hires at least one, lvl 0 Ms despite 1 case lvl 80s are always accompanied by lvl 0s, and lvl 174 nidorinos. Of course, if the nidorino gains any experience it will automatically bolt down to lvl 100. But, remember how the missingo trick gives you 129 of whatever is in the 6th slot, well, if it was a rare candy you're in luck. If you did have a rare candy there then you can get you're monster to lvl 256! Any more and they revert to 0 though. So, when making your name beware of special signs like the female male signs, or Pk and Mn signs, they weild SCREWED up trainers. Here's a nameing guide:
A: Golduck
B: Hypno
C: Golbat
D: Mewtwo (BIG OPPORTUNITY HERE!)

Chapter 6: Rumors
Okay, as you know I posted an FAQ of missingno full of rumors, this will have a those and more! So here you go.

R: Missingno will screw up your game.
l Of course Missingno will to some extent. It will temporarily mess up your graphics, again, temporarily, not permanent. The graphics are normal after about 20 minutes. Another way to get rid of your graphics is to save, then restart, if you don't wanna save, just restart. The next way is permanent, if you do it, then catch another missingno, the graphics will not be scrambled. You look at missingnos stats, then a regular pokes stats, or is it the other way around, huh.

R: Missingno and 'M are the same thing.
While they are similar, they are not the same thing. It is beleived 'M is a glitched version of missingno.

R: Missingno exists in yellow.
/ It is there, its effects are much more severe and you can only get it by doing the mew trick with either a channeler or a fisherman, a lot of the ones below lavender work.

R: Missingno exists in GSC.
/ They are not that well know and you can't get them without a game "enhancing" device (AKA cheating thingy) like a gameshark or an action replay. This version is uncatchable, even with a masterball.

R: Missingno exists in RSE.
While it is there in GSC it was removed for RSE, what stands in its place is the super glitch BADEGG.

R: Mew can be reached with the Missingno trick.
While a lot of pokemon can be reached this way, if you look at the guide you'll notic that no letter corresponds with mew, except a glitched block, but of course you cannot use that in your name.

R: Missingno can be reached with the Mew trick.
/ It can be through channelers and south of lavender fishermen.

Chapter 7: Missingnos Reletaves
Ok everyobdy, sorry for the long delay, but here it is, finally up, the seventh chapter of The Missingno Files. This chapter will be based off of Missingnos reletaves, in the Pokemon universe of course. We'll have a little bit on everybody known, except the really obscure ones like Q,

# 'M #
If you want to know about M, read chapter 4.

Badegg
There are 2 variations of Badegg, the Nintendo Ediion (NE) and the Missingno Edition (ME). The NE was put in on purpose to punish cheaters, many people have reported that they used the Gameshark/Action Replay code to replace the first pokemon in there party with ______. Sometimes, when you did this cheat, on FRLGRSE you would instead get a Badegg. It would have a pokedex entry and all that jazz. It will never hatch, without a cheat to do so, that experiment is in progress, I'm just waiting for results, the egg did hatch but so far I don't know what came out. Now, for the ME. The ME is pretty much a missingno. If you walk around in a certain cave in RS (removed in E, or was it? I can't find it in my copy though) (and I can't remember what cave it is, I thought TFTG had it, but I looked and couldn't find it), a Missingno will appear, instead of the classic Missingno backwards L, it will be an egg, instead of Missingno i twill be called, Badegg. This doesn't happen for the same reason as missingno, a slightly different one, unconfirmed what it is though. Why Badegg? Simple, its like the old RB hall of fames. It randomly grabs stuff from the game, what did it grab for almost the entire pokemon? Badegg. WARNING: Badegg is a fatal glitch, it MURDERS games, if you still want to hunt it, you've been warned.

EXCLUSIVE INFO
Mew
Okay, when you hear this, you will probably think of pokemon #151, this however is pokemon #MISSINGNO. Its a glitch that appears if you mess around with a gameshark or do the Mew Trick with the wrong people. Its not really fatal, what it does is glitches you trainer forever. Thats it. Oh, and if you put it in lead, all the pokes in the PC will usually faint. Sounds farfetched but its true, not that well known but I'm the only person I know of who has it, so I wanted to be the one with the exclusive info.

Well, sorry, but thats about it... for now. I'm going to do an interveiw with nintendo in a few days, and trust me, its gonna be more than the average roboresponse.

FAQ
Q. What is the Phantom PC?
A. The Phantom PC is in Celadon City. If you go to the hotel you'll notice its shaped just like a pokemon centre? Well go where the PC would be, press A and the PC will open, that is the Phantom PC.

Chapter 8
Missingno Lives?

Okay, before we get into this 2 things, one, this is review and new, this is NOT just old information, and 2, w00t! This is the Grand Reopening of the files! *parties!* Okay, but now, lets get down to business. This chapter is devoted to Missingno in other generations, and getting him there, a lot of review, but there IS more.

Okay, so, you all know about Missingno in RBY, but can you get him in any other generations? Well, Missingno is uncatchable in GSC, and nonexistent in RSE/FRLG. As you also know, his cousin Badegg is. Can you get Missingno to any other generations? By trade, of course not. I, like many others tried to trade my buddy Missingno onto good ole

Wow, almost clarifying. But some things I still don't understand...

There are actually 256 possible hex numbers, including 00. Hex is short for Hexidecimal, or base 16, and that's the base 16 equivalent of 100. Hex is used for most variables on gameboy games- the gameboy its self, I assume, is built to handle hex codes.

To understand how hex numbers work, you have to know a little about number bases. When you were learning to add, I'm sure you were taught that when two numbers in the "ones" column added up to more than ten, you'd add one to the "tens" column and write down the last digit you got from adding the ones digits. These "columns" are the key to our number system, and what separates it from, say, roman numerals.

Take the number 32, for example. We work in base 10, so the 3 in the "tens" column means the number 32 has 3 tens in it, and the 2 at the end means it has two extra left over after making three tens. If you were to count 32 in base sixteen (hex) then the "tens" column would really be the "sixteens" column. 32 would mean three groups of 16 (48) and two left over, for a base ten equivalent of 50.

I knew the whole "Name has a hexidecimal value" idea, but can you explain why if your name is ANDY, you will not only find MissingNO.(and the others), but Mewtwos over 100? Or why the standard "ASH" results in Golbats and Snorlaxes over lvl 100, along with MissingNO. (and it's variants?)

my guess about the lvl 100+ pokemon is that they are random data, in that area, if you recall, there is always more than one thing in an area so it is possible that it would save your name in multiple places (say one for each letter) also another thing about missingno that i have noticed is always overlooked, if you trade a captured missingno to a g/s/c game it will appear to be a non-shiny red donphan that knows sky attack, water gun, and water gun (it wont let you trade it is "irregular")

Each letter/symbol is a variable, and so it's stored as a hex value. When the game can't find pokemon data, for some reason it decides to use the name values. The first, third and fifth letters in your name, I think, provide data for pokemon that appear while the second, third and sixth (again, don't quote me on this) give it levels. Since most correspond to hex values over 100, they produce crazy-leveled pokemon.

so the sheer fact that your name value is used is the reason that MissingNO. turns up, but the specific letters dictate the actual pokemon and the levels they appear at? Is there a way to determine what letter combinations result in what "crazy" pokemon?

There's something that you should add, trading Missingno to GSC. I can get the info for you if you want.

Alright, just a question. How do I get Blaine to appear? On my old game (I started YEARS ago) I named myself a cuss word, And I found the Mew code out from a little boy at school. I tryed it, and I found MissingNo, but I also found Blaine in the water o.O;

I'm not sure how to get him to re-appear though... (started my game over) He had a pokemon that had no cry, but it slowed down the battle song. He also had a pokemon that had the cry of the sing move, and something that was like a Flareon. (It was alittle glitched though) And I can remember two Nidorinos, that used some strange move that missed alot, and when it hit, it was game over, cos my game screen went BLUE. (I'm playing blue version).

There's a list of pokemon and what letters you need to get them here, including how to get a few trainers to appear.

The name is very important- it's what determines the type and level of over level 100 pokemon or alternate versions of missingno you'll see. One missingno, the original m', corresponds to the hex value for the end of your name, so that will always appear.

What do you mean the original M'? 'M, is NOT missingno, and he doesn't always appear, if the last letter in your name is levle, it'll make him appear, other wise, nope, nodda, zip 'M. There are SEVERAL games with NO missingno and NO m, well over 90% of these cases are where none of the letters correspond with missingno or 'm, and the last letter in their name designates a pokemon, otherwise the end name is lvl 80.

I think you misunderstood me- I don't mean the last letter, I mean the end of your name- the marker that tells the gameboy this is where your name ENDS, it's not the same as a letter, and it always produces the pokemon 'M. He and missingno are very close cousins, if not identical, and since 'M appears for earlier numbers he is, in a way, the "original" glitch pokemon.

I'm not sure what you mean by a game with no 'm, you mean if the end of name marker falls into a slot that should indicate a level? I think it's stored differently- have you ever had such a game? Could you give me a name example for such a game I could try? The duplication trick wouldn't work on those cartrages, since they require 'm or missingno.

Yes, there have been games like that, I can't think of any names off the bat but I might post one later. And I didn't misunderstand you, I knew you were talking about the name marker, and since don;t have any records of these names I might just have to wait till another one happens and is reported to me. I ddn't say my last post right, it's not where that end marker falls, it's soemthing to do with the group of numbers before it, also, what would happen if you named your guy, A, or something 1 letter?

Nothing. There are some guys that do that, sometimes missingno himself does that, or, with great timing, you might have a case that doesn't weild glitches!

If you've almost got your pokedex done, you must have another red/blue cartrage, or know someone who does. Most games allow for the duplication of TMs, why not ask them to teach your pokemon the moves you need? Or, if you have a copy of gold or silver, use the GS duplication trick to create a few extra TMs.

I have my pokedex almost complete because of the mew glitch. I have none to trade with, so that's out of the question.

Or wait, maybe I have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, If my Red version is french... can I trade with english versions????

I've never tried it... why not give it a try?

BTW, where'd you get the French version? If I could get emerald in French, maybe my Mum'd buy it for me...
