It doesn't matter if something is a cartoon or not, you can feel sad and even cry over anything. Over time you can develop an emotional attachment to fictional characters, animated or otherwise. I've been watching Jesse and James (and Ekans/Arbok and Koffing/Weezing) through the best and worst of their times for seven years now, since I was a little kid. Of course I'd find it sad, when in one of the most serious episodes of Pokemon, Team Rocket fight a Tyranitar with their own hands to let their friends escape from a poacher. Add in some dramatic music and the images of crying or pain in these characters I know and love, and that's something I'd cry over.

Mine would probably be either Gotta catch ya later, where Misty and Brock leaves, (Why did you have to come back Brock!!! ), or in the first movie when Ash was turned to stone. Yes, I am a Ash supporter, and I willl stick whith him no matter how manny stupid things he does.

Wait... is A Poached Ego the one where Arbok and Weezing leave? If so, that is pretty sad... but not because Arbok and Weezing left!

Pikachu's Goodbye made me cry, along with when Ash was petrified... so sad...

Pikachu's Goodbye made me tear quite a bit. Funny story, it was in 5th grade. My family was yelling at me to get in the car to go to school. I was watching the tv as Ash ran. At the same time, my eyes were blurry. I laugh at the moment now though.

For me, bye bye {butterfree}, {pikachu} 's goodbye, and the one episode (i forget its title) but it was the first season, when Ash gets trapped in a blizzard, and he's in an igloo, and he tries to keep his pokemon warm with his shirt, but then all of them come out and form a giant group hug to keep warm, and with the dramatic music, it was so sad  yes i did cry, so what wanna make something of it? Haven;t seen the poached ego episode, but it sure sounds like it was very touching. Peace Out! (before i start bawling)

That igloo one is Snow Way Out, It's one of the several episodes I rented when I spent about 20 bucks renting the first season. I got that tape just for my favorite episode ver, showdown at the poke-corral, I have the book to the sad bye bye butterfree, and my poor poor little sister fell victim to a misleading title, she was so sad on pikachu's goodbye, the tape showed a lot of pikachu's smiling and was called Pikachu Party, I got it for her, other than the fact she got so sad, that story's sorta funny.

I teared up a little at Pikachu's Goodbye, especially with the sad song, but now when I watch it I just wonder why Ash is trying to force his pikachu away. There's a very good reason why I don't watch pokemon much anymore- I've grown too cynical.

But that said, I always cry a little during Pokemon: The First Movie, even when I'm reading the novel version. Not so much when Ash gets petrified- I never much liked him anyways- but when all the pokemon are fighting each other, except the Meowths, who realize they're just the same, and then Pikachu who refuses to fight... *sniffle* I think a good fantasy story should make you think about real life, and that's just what that scene always does for me.

the song in the episode "gotta catch ya later" plucked my heart strings a bit. i realized that a character that had been there from episode 1 was leaving. Also the pikachus goodbye was sad, basically any episode where they have those little songs i find sad, i know it sounds pretty dumb but thats how i feel.

Rember that one episode (early season) from when ash and his pokemon got stuck in an avalanche and he wasn't sure his pokemon where gonna make it so he gave his jacket to them? Also, that one where Brock, Ash and Misty went thier seprate ways right before the Hoenn season (then Brock "miraculously" came back...).

....WHAT DO YOU MEAN BUTTERFREE DIED?!?! I thought it flew off over the sea or something?
