The Masuda Method (named so because it was a secret little thing the director, Junichi Masuda, added to the fourth generation games onward) makes it so that if the Pokémon you're breeding are from different region games, the chances you'll get a shiny hatchling are four times higher. But this doesn't mean you can just use a Pokémon the game says is foreign, like Lieutenant Surge's Pikachu; it actually has to be created in a foreign game. To be specific, someone I know collects all the games and always gets one of the versions imported from Japan before they're released in the US. She got me a male Corsola (I wanted the shiny Poliwag to have Refresh) from one of the Japanese copies and I had him and a Poliwag pump out eggs until a shiny one hatched. It still took forever, but it could have taken four forevers. When you're doing this, the trick where a parent holds an everstone to pass its nature to the offspring 50% of the time won't work. I'm probably never gonna do it again. I just thought it would be appropriate to have a shiny individual of my favorite Pokémon. Now when Nintendo invents technology to generate real-live pokémon from the game data and a live sacrifice, I can have two of them and tell them apart from a glance

Ahhhhhh I seeee, sounds slightly less painstaking than the other methods xD Do japanese pokemon traded from the global trade center thing work too?

Yes they do. So long as it was actually created in a foreign game, it works for Masuda Method.
To add to that, in Gen 4 the chance of a shiny egg is quadrupled, but in Gen 5, it is sextupled instead.

Ahh I see, so how many times do you have to breed (on average) to get a shiny? (theoretically of course)

Pony... If you would like, I could try to chain a shiny ponyta for you. I am currently borrowing platinum from a friend in order to chain shinies for him. I wouldn't mind catching an extra.

I would like but... my internet is all ** up. it starts with MÉ and the "É" appear as a square, so I can't use manual setup. Also, I use WAP2 key, and I can't use auto setup. Thanks anyway Ps. I'm currently breading Rapidash (Masuada Method) (I have a Canadian and an American HG/SS) 600 eggs for now. Don't worry, I'll get it

I found a shiny and evolved it into ! Surprised that isn't on the list... After 4 1/2 years of playing, I found my first and only shiny (besides Gyarados) in a cave on HG, and it wasn't even a good one. T_T
