He becomes so good at it that he puts the rest of you to shame. Hell, his team is all shiny now and never dies. And they're insanely over-leveled so they can basically sneeze and gym leaders fall down and give out badges and junk. And then when you find out all you can think of is how ironic it is that you just died in the first rival fight.
