Hey, my Friend Jon (The Jonatron here) keeps PWNing me with his Baton Passer, could anyone please help me come up with a counter to beat this, I have previously been using punishment, which would normally OH-KO him after powering up so much, but his Feraligatr has a Focus Sash and byt the time he baton-Passes to it it has super high attack and speed, so, I figured I'd have to stop him getting him so powerful in the first place, any sound strategys to beat his baton passer?

Send in someone with Roar or Whirlwind as soon as you see his Baton Passer.

Roar/Whirlwind on the turn he uses BP, and the stat boosts will be gone.

Pokemon like taunting gyrados can taunt to stop powering up and the bp itself too.

There are also hazers, but those are the least popular counter these days.

DD pokes is probably the best idea - switch in on Ninjask, Taunt it, then DD up.

Phazers *could* be countered though by a BP team - Smeargle BPs Ingrain which blocks phazing.

*smiles Melovatlently* looks like Ninjask and Feraligatr will need to hide in the secondary slots now... I'm glad James will know how to counter it though, it takes all the fun out of a battle if you can sweep someone who doesn't know any counter. now... battles should now get longer and more interesting...

Muhuhahaha!!!!

Or the BPer decides to attack Gengar instead, killing it because it has half its HP, or they just do a normal switch and get rid of Curse altogether, still leaving you with a half HP Gengar.

Honestly, why not just have Gengar use Haze or Hypnosis instead if you want it for that role.

But if you send in a Phazer the second you see a BP threat, you can just Roar away.

Even if they have Ingrain or Suction Cups, they still won't have time to get the stat boosts, and will most likely be killed quickly.

Not really.

Smeargle comes out.

You switch to your PHazer while Smeargle uses Ingrain.

You choose Roar and so Smeargle goes again and puts you to sleep with Spore. This is almost guaranteed that Smeargle will have Spore.

From here it diverges, Smeargle might use another set up move or it might Baton Pass to something else.

Another possibility is that Smeargle uses Spore on its first turn, which disables your PHazer anyway, allowing Smeargle to get a free turn while you're either sleeping or switching.

It doesn't matter how fast the PHazer is, because unless it is already in play when the opponent brings out Smeargle the above will happen every single time.

To counter the above scenarios, simply attack Smearlge straight out; done.

Perish song kills just as quickly as curse plus you don't have to die!
Lapras works great for this and It can also use haze which works great

OR you could use his hard work to your advantage...
Just set toxic on him so that he slowly dies then use psych up to steal his stat boosts for your self

BTW even smogon didn't think of that one

Neither will they take any damage, they'll switch within 3 turns but they still have time to either sweep or wait to see your switch in.

Namely because your chance of surviving the 2+ turns to Toxic/Psychup your opponent will finish their BP or KO you.

Also since gen V is coming up Dragon tail is effective at Phazing stats while being taunt proof. If you want to steal stat boosts you can use eccentric Ditto (When available) with a Scarf or Quick claw to throw back the same set.

While you are setting up that Swords Dance, that said Smeargle hits you with a Spore.

Machamp anti leads can seriously screw with most any bp, especially smeargle and ninjask, if you run dynamicpunch, ice punch, bullet punch and payback with a lum berry. Not the most original thing in the world but it definitely gets the job done

let us not forget about clear smog (a damaging haze) or somtimes before it sets up a substitute sweeper could work but taunt works nicely too along with red card for psuedo hazing like dragon tail, circle throw and roar
